So fun fact: teeth blackening was actually a quite common thing not only in Thailand but throughout Southeast Asia. From what i know, black teeth were considered quite attractive, and symbolized ones status and maturity. That's why every notable adult in the flashback has black teeth, but the little girl doesn't. When it comes to acting in this show, i think it's actually really good! Especially it being the very first project where both Keng (Pharan) and Namping (Khem) got to play main roles. Keng's got a bit more acting experience tho, since he's already played in "Paradise of Thorns". Edit: tbh i can see why Khem is blaming himself. It's not that it was his fault specifically, he's a victim in this situation too, but Ramphueng didn't have beef with anyone in the village before Khem arrived. She literally said she didn't give a damn ab them. If Khem wasn't there, like half of the things that happened, wouldn't have happened. I don't think he's running away, it's more like he's leaving and taking the source of the problem with him. Self-sacrificing. It's both like incredibly selfless and selfish at the same time

Yeah so Khemjira is the last in the bloodline cuz she killed everyone else so if she kills Khemjira then his bloodline can’t continue and they can’t get reborn into that lineage anymore but the funny thing is, is that even if she doesn’t kill Khem his bloodline won’t continue cuz he likes men 💀

While I can understand why it’s frustrating the he is not willing to “face the music” so to speak, there are multiple layers that make me understand his actions as not selfish: 1) All his life the two most important people made huge sacrifices to extend his life; his dad taking the monkhood and his mom dying, but lingering to keep him safe to a possible outcome of never reincarnating. 2) He still for sure blames himself for what happened with Grandma Si, Thong and Ake. While logically it makes sense that the blame does not lie with him and people around him are trying to hammer it home, all that happened in such a traumatic way coupled with what he was shown as his “original sin” of “betraying” Rampheung. You can’t really expect a 20 year old to behave logically and rationally faced with this kind of traumatic accident. Like she basically said it’s all your fault. 3) The people he loves might come to harm in case he stays any longer. Especially Paran. He might have hesitated to stay up until the point Paran fainted, which shows him that Paran has limitations and might not be able survive Rampheung’s wrath. 4) I see this curse as an allegory to mental illness that comes from being terminally ill. He was basically given a timeline of when he is supposed to die. The closer that time comes, the harder it is to keep hope. When you have essentially given up, it might seem better to retreat and not have your loved ones see you die basically.

Late response but Shaman's around the world have different rules and customs. I did a bit of research on Thai shaman's after this series and while Monks and Shaman's are two different beings with different roles, practices and sources of spiritual power, they co-exist closely together and are both highly spiritual people. In Thailand, from what i've read, Shamans while not being on the same level as monks are still highly respected especially in smaller communities or villages as they are often times the ones who keep the community safe and many often refrain from "worldly pleasures" to have a stronger connection to the deity's but of course every shaman is different. Out of respect, you are expected to avoid physical touch with shamen but it can be different depending on many varying factors like if you were close with them before they became a shaman and their own beliefs and bounderies set but they did subtly mention earlier in the series that Master should not be touched by the many times people have absent mindedly put their hand on his arm and then apologized and quickly removed it or other similar situations. Also, polygamy was practiced in Thailand until it was outlawed in 1935. Before then, Men (of course women did NOT have the same right) could legally have a "official wife", a "minor (or second) wife", and "slave wives" and any child had by any of these wives were seen as legitimate children. Also pt 2, in normal shows that are based on every day life like campus drama or whatever and they think being with the people they love will harm them in some way for whatever and leave I understand the frustration, I'm also tired of that plot point in dramas of that nature. However, this show is supernatural and Khem being around the people he loved was actually literally hurting them or putting them in harms way..obviously grandma Si's death had nothing to do with his curse but her dead body being used to harm both Khem and Master did. Thong and Ake were spirits and just moved on from the mortal world so it shouldn't hurt as much but they were friends and family to Jet and Master so it was painful to be without their presence even if it wasn't a violent death. Master was poisoned and Khem knew *something* happened as Master showed up to the lotus pond with literal streams of blood coming from his eyes and mouth then passed out after holding himself together long enough to save Khem and take care of Grandma Si's funeral. All of this was the doing of Rampheung and she has stated on multiple different occasions that she does not care about ANYONE except for Khem and wouldn't even be bothering them if they hadn't stepped in to help him and stop her so I can understand why Khem believe's everyone's pain and suffering is his fault because just him being around them is also putting Rampheung around them. It sucks that he feels that way and I don't agree with him leaving but I can understand why he is and I don't see him as selfish for doing so, just my personal thoughts though.
