the song name in the story is “Wangxian” (the ship name between WANGji and wuXIAN), Wangji was a little upset here because in the tortoise cave he told the name of the song to Wuxian before Wuxian passed out but ofc Wuxian would forget it!

Five stars reaction! I think Wei Wuxian has matured a lot since his resurrection.

the father locked up the mother because she killed some of his clan members (not sure of detailed situation) and he felt responsible for bringing death upon those clan members bc he had fallen in love with her. it wasn't like a kidnap job. the token JGY gave to XiChen was more or less "a key to XiChen's place." but Xichen "changed the locks" and it didn't work anymore for JGY, so he snarkily gave it back :-)

I absolutely love the parallel between Wangji and his father! They both fell deeply in love when they were young, and they both suffered because of their loved ones “wrongdoings”, madam Lan even killed a member of the Lan Clan, so the elders probably wanted her executed. But this is exactly where Wangji breaks that toxic generational cycle. To “protect” and “save” Madam Lan, Wangji’s father confined her to the Jingshi, but was condemning her to a lifetime of forced seclusion really the kind of protection or salvation she wanted? It’s hard to say… probably not. Wangji has the same instinct. He even tells his brother that he wants to bring Wei Wuxian back to the Cloud Recesses and hide him there, that probably would have saved Wei Wuxian’s life, but Wei Wuxian would have hated every second of it. So as painful as it was to watch everything that happened to Wei Wuxian, in the end Wangji chose not to repeat his father’s mistake… to me, that’s peak storytelling 😭😭😭

I think Wuxian leans toward serious when he is putting others at risk. He's a brat most of the time, but turns into an adult if it isn't just himself in danger and/or the situation is dire. He doesn't want to bring anyone else down, like when he defected from the Jiang Clan to keep their reputation safe and still be able to care for the Wens. Except, he isn't able to get rid of Wangji. Wangji is now attached to him at the hip, reputation almost ruined, so Wuxian has more serious moments. Thankfully he's still a rage baiting brat at heart, so he can't stay serious for long.

Wuxian also had a fever and was passing out at the time, so he didn't really catch the name. Which is one reason the camera was fuzzy and we didn't catch the name during the cave. (Censorship being the other fun reason and why we don't learn the name in this show.)

Wangxian!!! When you’re a little gay boy and you write songs for your first crush and name it after both of your names put together 🙃🙃 what I love about this is it shows how down bad LZ was from waaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy back. Like wayyyy back he was already in love with him.

Bold of you to assume Lan Zhan would let Wei Wuxian go anywhere unaccompanied, he just got his man back, he's not about to let him wander off 😂

Ok, so... in-story, the song's name is Wangxian, which is their ship name. They can't say that in the show due to censorship, but we do see Wangji mouth it silently in the tortoise cave. In this episode, idk why the subtitler decided to just skip a whole word, but WWX said "Let's call it Wuji" - which is an alternate ship name for them, and that is the real-world title of this piece of music written for the show. Besides being a portmanteau for Wuxian and Wangji, another translation of "Wuji" is "Untamed" - hence the English title of the show.

About their parents - no book spoilers, but I will say this is one of the places the show changed things without really integrating the changes well, resulting in confusion. For basic clarification - their mother killed some Lan Clan members, and it's unclear whether she was justified or not, but the Lans were out for her head over it, and their father married her to save her from punishment. Then he gave up his position as leader and went into seclusion as penance to the clan for harboring her.

Okay, so about the parents of the 2 brothers, the author intervened recently because indeed Western fans believed it was a toxic relationship. Here are the threads of all the revisions she has done: https://x.com/nanareads27/status/2047727862631764466?s=61&t=vFOxkyd65t281n-w2C1Dig https://x.com/minn760/status/2047714399583109409?s=61&t=vFOxkyd65t281n-w2C1Dig By the way, I don’t know if you remember but at some point, we also have Wangji telling his brother that he wants to bring someone (Wuxian) and hide him at Cloud Recesses (wishing to do the same as their father aka protecting him from the cultivation's world)

I feel that this Doctor Who quote really fits Lan Zhan: "Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many"

Meri

Like you said they really are ridiculously in love

I think the thing that convinced Xichen about Guangyao is when Guangyao jumped at the chance to make claims against Wuxian when Wuxian has been in the Cloud Recesses the whole time. Well solidified it more since the passkey had been nullified. Concerning the whip marks, Wangji would never say anything that would hurt Wuxian.

nancy metz

About Xichen playing the flute, I remember some vague reference that playing the flute in the middle of the night was against the rules? Does anyone have any knowledge about that?

Wangji's actor (Wang Yibo) had his 21st birthday during the filming.

While I was watching your reactions, I couldn't stop smiling because this episode is my favourite! I absolutely love it ♡ That's why I'd like to share a few thoughts (and if anyone in the chat has anything to add, I'd really enjoy reading your perspective): • About Lan Zhan's parents' backstory: my theory is Lan Zhan and his older brother only heard their uncle's version of the story (and probably the gossip circulating throughout the cultivation world).I won't spoil anything ad I believe you'll probably read the novel after finishing the show, but in the novel, the author develops their story a bit further, leaving more room for us to speculate about it. • In the Silence Room, the entire sequence where Lan Zhan plays the guqin is a key scene for me. Wei Ying's words are: >> "Lan Zhan, I toast to you. I'm glad to have one true friend." (You can find other translations that use *confidant* or *soulmate* instead of *friend*, but we all understand the meaning, even with the word *friend*.) Then he drinks with his mouth open, letting the liquor spill all over himself without a care in the world (which to me represents his true self showing through despite what others might think). Lan Zhan says >> "For nothing else, but a clean conscience." And Wei Ying continues: "No matter how they slander me, I know I have a clean conscience." Then he looks at Lan Zhan, shy but happy, and finishes with, "I'm sorry, and thank you." (remember, folks, these were the two words he once told Jin Ling were the most important words to learn in life 😍) And ALL of that comes after the previous scene, where he steps out from beneath the covered roof into the open, snowy sky (a very visual metaphor) and shares his thoughts about how the world is always "looking for someone to hate". I don't know about you guys, but to me this whole sequence is a clear piece of subtext from the writers about the censorship surrounding their relationship. Since the show couldn't film the scene where Lan Zhan and Wei Ying openly express their love for each other, they created this beautiful sequence instead. A TRUE MASTERPIECE 🥹 I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

I can only imagine that their mother developed some feelings for their father. After all, she did bear him two children, and she loved those two children.

Nina Wu

lol I saw your notification and thought Trolltek had uploaded a new The Untamed reaction video 😭

nancy metz

Thank you for the link! I don't have Twitter or X, so I don't know if I'm seeing the whole revision or not. What I do see confirms what I believe - the Lan parents were in love.

Sakura

Yes, it's the main revision...the others are basically about Wei Ying and Lan Zhan...some were made because of the censorship unfortunately (change of phrasing) but the summary is 1. Lan parents are in love 2. Wei Wuxian has gorgeous lips (LWJ pov) 3. Wei Wuxian had a crush on LWJ since they were kids (it was obvious for some but some other people were making assumptions forcing Mxtx to clarify 🥲) Also, for the fans of Heaven Blessing (TGCF), a new edition will be released in China very soon, a revised and uncensored version apparently. I don't know if we will have a new English version as well at some point.

Tori

I would like to point out that we have seen Wei Wuxian meditate many times before this. He has never almost fallen asleep before. So, either the writers decided to reference the fact that healing from a physical injury is exhausting, or they were hinting at something that happened the night before. 🧐 Also there is an incense burner on the table. Just pointing that out. 😂
