prior to the "planet" survival series, mnet had the "produce" survival series, which produced groups like ioi, wanna one, iz*one, and finally x1. X1 came from the final season, called produce x 101, and shortly after their debut the had to disband because there were allegations that the lineup was rigged. that's why there is a disclaimer at the beginning of each episode saying that the voting is monitored so that they can avoid votes being falsified. I personally loved the lineup of x1, so I was heartbroken when they disbanded, but that scandal is also why mnet switched the show from being called "produce" to "planet", starting with girls planet which produced kep1er. they wanted to try to distance themselves from that issue and start anew. there will be another girls planet in 2027, but mnet made the 2nd season of boys planet before the 2nd season of girls planet bc zb1 ended up becoming so popular. there are still survival shows in other countries, like Japan and China, that are still titled "produce" and follow the same format as that series, and tbh idk why they only changed the name of the Korean version.

As someone commented on the first ep before, there was the plan to make two separate survival shows. One Korea and one for China. There were some issues with the planet c part so they decided to combine them, but at that time the introduction performances for each planet were already done. That's why this episode has 99% Chinese contestants in it and planet k has also "foreign" guys. So ep 1+3 are planet k and ep 2+4 are planet c. After that it's a joint venture.

I feel like a bit of unsteadiness in vocals is expected because they’re only trainees (most of them) and most of them don’t have Korea as a first language, but we’re used to very curated performances where a lot of idols lip sync lol
