Game of Thrones Season 8 Episodes 1 & 2 – “Winterfell” & “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (GOT 8x1 & 8x2) REACTION!

SEASON 8 IS HERE! WINTER IS HERE! AND NOW THE ARMY OF THE DEAD IS HERE!! We're excited, but also VERY worried about everybody 😭

First, JON AND ARYA FINALLY REUNITED!! We've waited SO LONG for that hug! And Jon riding Rhaegal?! From touching a dragon to flying one! Meanwhile, Sansa and Dany aren't exactly becoming besties 😂 Can everybody please get along until we survive the dead?!

And SAM finding out what happened to his father and brother... ouch. Then telling Jon who he really is?! HE FINALLY KNOWS! Now Dany knows too, and her reaction to his claim to the throne has us nervous! There's a LOT to unpack here, but the dead aren't waiting!

Also Jaime showing up and seeing Bran?! Talk about an awkward reunion! But Brienne standing up for him, and then JAIME KNIGHTING BRIENNE?! Her smile 😭❤️ One of our favorite moments! She deserved that SO MUCH!

And TORMUND 😂 The man is preparing for the end of the world and still has time for Brienne! We needed those laughs because everybody sitting around the fire felt WAY too much like a goodbye. Please don't do this to us!

Theon coming back to fight for Winterfell, Arya and Gendry getting together, everyone deciding how to spend what could be their last night... we're getting attached all over again at the WORST possible time!

Where we stand after 8x1 & 8x2: Everyone is preparing to defend Winterfell, Jon and Dany know the truth, and Cersei isn't sending help. The living need each other more than EVER.

Who is making it through this battle?! Can two dragons stop the Night King and Viserion?! We cannot wait, but we're also scared to press play!

i loved every bit of GOT, right through to the end! (I 'm not a "book reader" so i see it for the TV series it is). The writing in this is phenomenal! The connections throughout, the casting & character arcs, the awesome graphics! some of the episodes are like full blown movies. last time i saw this good of a series EVER was "Lost" (funny you mentioned Lost). and I really love both of your commentary & insights, whether you're spot on with predictions or not, you add to food for thought. Your side jokes here & there are hilariously witty! ("Westeros CCTV" - LMFAO) Yours is one of the best GOT reactor channels out there! (I've subscribed to ton of them - i just can't let-go lol). This season she’s really insufferable imo. Giving Dany a hard time frame 1 without even trying to get to know her, and ignoring she’s brought the single most important weapons in the war while Sansa plans on hiding the entire time.

One thing I've yet to see mentioned is that the book series on which this is based has yet to be finished. When they decided season 8 would be the last, the original author, George R. R. Martin, gave producers tentative plot points which might appear in the finished novel. The program writers came up with how the series ended. I think that's why the final season was so dissatisfying to so many.

you really didn't notice a decline in both dialogue and pacing during the last seasons? didn't it seem odd to you that in the first season it took 4 episodes to travel from Winterfell to King's Landing but in season 7 the characters were basically teleporting all over Westeros between scenes?

1. The Iron Islands are physically isolated from Westeros whereas The North is more than half of the continent. 2. When Yara asked for independence Dany needed her ships and also only agreed if they stopped raiding, which is their way of life. Pretty big ask.

Can't wait for the next episode. I also hope y'all actually get through House of the Dragon. RE: Jon riding the dragon. I never saw that as a plot hole. It's more of a nod to book lore. If you notice, the only people who can touch the dragons have been Daenerys, Tyrion and Jon. All have--or are theorized to have--Targaryen blood based on the book lore. I don't think Jon could have ridden the dragon if he were not a Targaryen--but I don't know if Daenerys realizes this. Jon is interesting because as a Stark, he can bond with his Direwolf and, as a Targaryen, he has also been accepted by Daenerys' dragons.

I remember around this time when the series was first being aired, there were theories that the seven “New Gods” were actually based on some of the characters as we go into the battle with the army of the dead. The Father: Jon. The Mother: Danerys. The Crone: Melisandre. The Smith: Gendry. The Warrior: Jamie. The Maiden: Brienne. The Stranger: Aria. It doesn’t fit perfectly, but it was interesting. Anyway, hope you guys are doing a standalone reaction for the next episode- it’s a big one!

Yea but when Yara asked for it, Tyrion says “what if every kingdom starts demanding independence?” And she says”she’s not demanding she’s asking, the others are free to ask as well”. And just like Yara, Sansa is another women in power who wants what’s best for her people but they don’t even try to negotiate a deal. And to answer your question Hailey, its only a little over a 1/3 of the continent not more then half, but in the books/show it’s exaggerated to that size. Just like the 1000 swords forged in the iron throne when it’s actually like 300.

Ahh.. I love episode 2 so much. Also, I never get the Sansa hate. She is probably my favorite character of this show. People expect her to stay the same as she was in season 1, but after everything… would she really have been the same? She’s tough, and strong and NEVER going to take any shit ever again. And I love that for her. After everything she deserves it. Also, I love Theon and Sansa’s friendship. Yes he’s done a lot that he can never take back, but he saved her. They have this little trauma bond. I love their friendship so much. And Theon wanting to redeem himself and all that he did at winter fell for winter fell and the starks! Ugh I love these episodes and can’t wait for your reaction to the next!!!

Yeah, most of the major plot points make perfect sense for the characters, but how the TV writers connected them and played them out was pretty bad.

Well, there were two characters and very long and built out plot threads from the books (Griff and Lady Stoneheart) that were completely removed for the TV show, and that was the right choice, so the TV writers did get some things right.

That Jenny of Oldstones song for book reader is a good easter egg and a warning for things to come iykyk. And the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for Brienne was also a good reference, im sure it will be explained better on the next coming prequels. Great reaction

There’s a double standard for Daenerys because she insists that she wants to make the world better than it is. When that’s your goal, people expect her to treat her enemies better than the people before. Executing lords after a battle isn’t customary in Westeros, usually they are used for bargaining.

Yeah when was it fixed? Cuz I didn't watch this when it was aired, only had watched after everything was out for awhile and I feel like the lighting was a struggle for me. And as far as The O's go, they have mentioned lighting before being a problem, so I think it could be an issue for them as well.

It's not Jon riding the dragons that should make Dany consider he may have Targaryan in him. Remember that the hound and others that went north of the wall to catch a snow demon also rode the dragon. However, what should make her consider he may have Targaryan is the fact that her dragons have taken a liking to Jon so quickly (first time meeting him). She may being thinking that they like who she likes and will let ride who she wants to ride, tho.

It is sparsely populated, with vast wilderness, forests, pine-covered hills and snowcapped mountains, although it also is home to one of the five Westerosi cities, White Harbor." And now that the wall is down, if you consider north of the wall part of "the north" it is even bigger.

Episode 2 of season 8 is one of my favs of all of game of thrones. It was perfect for me. The dialogue, the acting, the music, the scenes that made you cry etc. Jaime knighting Brienne made me sob for days. Beautiful scene and one of the best in all of GOT

I love how just about every character has their own music/sound effect. my favs are Jaqen H'ghar's mystical music, and also when Danny says DRACARYS, right before the fire shot - that base drop sound effect. the feels wow!

In the show maybe. In the books Dany is the savior. She spent her entire teen/adult life dedicated to making the world a better place. Show Dany isn’t the real Dany. In the books Dany cares more about her people/children and their wellbeing than anything else in the world. Definitely more than the iron throne.

Kit Harrington (the actor who plays Jon) was injured in episode 1 while riding the “dragon”. The scream you hear in the show is his actual scream. A double was used for a lot of the next few episodes. When you see him (and not the double) he looks even more broody than normal in the scenes. He was also struggling with alcohol addiction this season. He had to go into rehab once the filming was over. He is very open about it and talks about it in post show interviews. In reference to a post above talking about the 8 people who rode on Drogon with Dani, that is very different then Jon being able to control Rhaegal. A dragon rider can have other people ride the dragon with them but the dragon can only be controlled by someone from Old Valyria or a Targaryen. John was able to control Rhaegal with his thoughts. That’s why when he broke away from Dani and flew down to the waterfall she looked confused then followed him. Sansa was with Theon during the end of the world party since you asked where she was. And an interesting scene that was deleted from the show is about Alice Karstark. She was standing beside Theon when they were looking at the map. When Theon says to Bran let me defend you now and she says the same. Since it was the Karstark who was with Ramsay and betrayed the Starks. So it’s not just Ironborn planning to protect Bran it’s the Karstarks too. Post show interviews by Brienne’s actress says she thought Jamie was making fun of her being a knight at first and wasn’t sure if he would really knight her. That is why she was hesitant when he first says it. Pod singing he had to train with a voice coach but had a naturally good voice to start. The actor who plays Bronn is a professional singer in real life. That’s why if you notice throughout the whole show they feature him singing many times. Sansa cold shouldering Dani is all about the fact that since she was 13 Sansa has been mistreated at the whim of royals and used as a pawn for others to gain power through her name and family. Using Littlefinger to defeat Ramsay means she will never be used as a pawn or be mistreated at the whim of a ruler. She isn’t quite ready to give up that feeling of safety she finally has achieved after all her suffering. That is why she is upset with Jon for giving up his crown. Her future once again is not under her control. Jon doesn’t understand politics and the dirty games being played in Kings Landing like she does. Episode 1 when the umber boy is burning you commented on the symbol. My first few rewatches I also thought it was the Targaryen symbol. I learned that is the symbol the children of the forest use. You can see it in their cave drawings in 7x4. It’s a reminder of who created the white walkers and why. They used a real person in a fire suit to film the scene where the umber boy is burning. After you finish the show, there are inside the episode shows on YouTube. They tell us how they filmed certain scenes and the actors talk in depth about why they said or did certain things to explain what the character was thinking.

You asked for other reactors to rewatch the show with. My first recommendation is the absolute GOAT of reactors. Nikki and Steven. There videos have over 600k views +. They really are the best I have ever seen. #1 recommendation! There are so many reactors to watch these days. A good way to find one is go to one of the GOT compilation channels. They usually have 6-10 reactors featured. They pick a big moment like the red wedding and mix together all the different reactors reacting to it. You can see which reactors appeal to you there then follow their channel. I have watched over 15-20 reaction channels. What is fascinating is how people’s age and background affects the way a specific scene is reacted to. They can all watch the same scene and come out with very different views and reactions. You have to ask yourself do you want a reactor that has uploaded the whole show so you can binge with them? Or do you want someone who is in season 1-3 and you can get weekly reactions as they experience it. That’s how I found you guys, The Octobers. I personally like to find 2-3 reaction channels that are watching at about the same season in the show. That way weekly these is 2-3 new reactions to watch. Everyone is different on how they pick reaction channels and there are tons of newbies starting this show for the first time. So lots of entertainment. For example MrLBoyd/Logical Movie Reviews. An middle age man with some kind of military/police background. He saw the war, the characters and the romantic relationships very differently than most reactors A truly unique reaction. Highly recommend Asia&Bj- these guys are super entertaining. I don’t think they remembered anyone’s name and constantly got characters confused for one another until Season 6! Even after the show was off over they still called Bran, Bronn. But it is one of the funniest reactions ever. If you want a comedy perspective they have it. They put out 6 episodes a week. I loved that schedule and it’s goes through all 8 seasons. Spartan&Pudgey- very analytical and was into all the details. These are great reactors if you want to see someone paying close attention. A few of the big plots they figured out immediately instead of taking weeks to put the pieces together. I watched it live with them as they watched it. Their mods were brutal and they figured out a tier system and a release schedule to squeeze out every drop of money from their Patreon. It was not a pleasant experience from that point of view. But now it is a great place to rewatch. Bridgeco-this is a great channel I really enjoyed. They used maps a lot and charts for characters. They are a really cute couple and had a different reaction to a lot of things. Highly recommend. Channel See 1- These are two middle age guys. They really give a guys perspective all the way through. It can get a little crass at times. But if you want a testosterone filled reaction this is it. A man’s man channel. The reaction squad- they talked and giggled through the whole show. It was so distracting. Even breast feeding a baby during some of the worst battle scenes. They are definitely a very unique channel. I don’t think they even liked the show they were just there for the money. Bust Reacts- Two guys college age they did a great job. They loved the show tremendously. Patreon has all episodes but they couldn’t finish it on YouTube once they saw the ending. These guys have a huge amount of pauses and discussion during the episode. Very in depth analysis and very endearing how much they absolutely loved certain characters. Mike is a huge fan of Cersei. Mair&Sophie- these two had some of the craziest reactions to big events. Crazy! If you want to see outlandish here it is. But they talked over 80% of the show to the point at times they were completely lost on what was happening. I will say they are one of the few people I have seen that loved the ending. Loved season 8. They weren’t happy with a few things but they have a very very different outlook on the end. Cam&Zay- a different perspective than others had on the show. Lots of behind the scenes info and other small details. Very entertaining. Studio Gek/Cinema Gek- a group of 5 guys that are starting season 4 right now. 2 have seen the show already. These guys have great insight and such diverse reactions. It’s nice to see a big group of mixed newbies react. Very refreshing. Highly recommend Akin Reacts- 3 guys from Nigeria reacting to this. It’s very funny and they have some extreme reactions to all that is going on. They are in season 3 now. Being Nigerian brings up a lot of differences that makes them very interesting to watch. I like seeing how a different culture can give us some good entertainment. They also react to a lot of Disney movies like Frozen and Moana. They are so funny. Mr Video- was so good,! He did a six hour Patreon marathon for episodes 8x 2-6. Watching him experience the emotion of what happens between 2-6 in season 8 was really something else. No breaks to decompress or recover. I think it’s the best Patreon had to offer other than Nikki and Steven. Unfortunately a lot of his episodes were lost between season 3 and season 5. There are many more these are some of my favorites. I have enjoyed your reactions immensely. I will highly recommend you guys to others. Thanks! So excited for episode 3. It is a stand alone episode.

its not that, the ending itself isnt so bad for most of it, the writing is terrible because they got a head of the book, last 2 season even 3 all got carried by the reunions and climax. The writing was just so bad... Everything that happens isnt the problem its how its rushed and put in place. Im not gonna elaborate to avoid spoiler but D and D are a total disgrace lol

Most of the criticism started AFTER the last episode aired, which suggests that it was motivated because they did not like the ending. The 'majority opinion' argument is weak, because it assumes there are more people that did not like the end than the other way around, but there is no way to quantify that. It is a fact, especially in this day and age, that people with negative opinions tend to be more loud and vocal than those who are content. Studies support my premise, as it has been measured that people who have a bad experience are ten times more likely to voice that opinion, than those who actually had an enjoyable experience. Just an observation...

It is an ADAPTATION, especially the last few seasons where the source work is no longer available, for goodness sake! Name any book(s) that perfectly follow the original text, they are few and far between. And that is what most of the criticism of the show is based upon. It is those that are true book fans who are the most vocal about how the show did not live up to their expectations. But here we are with just four episodes left and they are loving it, why do some feel the need to dampen that enthusiasm? Truth is, the critics have lowered the bar for the O's, and it may have the opposite effect in the end.

I don't understand the Sansa haters either, she went through hell and her demeanor is a product of that. If you look at the lead up to Littlefinger's trial it looked like she was at odds with Arya. The way it turned out, it was all a ruse to make Baelish think he was manipulating the sisters. When Sansa turned the tables on him, it became clear that she had learned how to play his game better than he did. That is what made that scene so good...

Sometimes after trauma, you need to hear someone validate you, to put that biggest piece of you back together. I think Jon telling Theon he is a Stark & a Greyjoy, is the first & largest piece of Theon's broken spirit.
