For what it's worth, I just rented an apartment 1500 miles away in New York and I haven't even been there yet - I've been the tenant since 6/1. I'm actually flying out on Saturday and moving in whenever my stuff gets there. I mean, you're still right - I had to do a background check and credit check and sign the lease and it took a few days. It's the easiest experience I've ever had renting a place and I think, not coincidentally, the first time I ever used Zillow and rented directly from a private landlord. These property management companies suck - they make everything way more difficult than it needs to be.
