Great reaction as always Jes. Severe trauma from war, loss of a loved one and bad teachers molded Kreese into the man we see today. After his POW stint he was a changed man like you said, he had nothing left in his life besides his Captain's no mercy lessons as Betsy was gone and so was any hopes of having a happy future with her and or a family of his own. Still Kreese didn't let himself fall apart but instead chose to discipline himself fully in the Martial Arts. Taking his rage and pain and channeling it into Karate which was the only thing he had left. When Kreese finally returned home from Vietnam, he decided to become a sensei and open a dojo of his own so that he could teach newer generations the same lessons that he credited with saving his own life, and so Cobra Kai Dojo was born. The name of course was inspired by the snake pit in Vietnam where Kreese defeated his Captain. The thing is Kreese always had good intentions as he only wanted to teach his students to survive this harsh and cruel world, though the world he had to survive was in war and not in civilian life. Kreese could never differentiate from the two, that his no mercy philosophy is only for war and is not for the regular civilian world. Kreese also in his own way cares about all his students, on a deeper level Johnny and Tory as he sees both of them as a son and granddaughter he never got to have, but sometimes his methods were not that good at conveying that message very well. Also the fellow soldier for Captain Turner’s special forces unit and who Kreese saved from fighting their own Captain over the snakepit is actually a young Terry Silver from Karate Kid 3. I don't know if you saw the original three Karate Kids but if you did not you definitely should as it's only going even harder to understand the upcoming seasons of Cobra Kai without the knowledge from the first three films. I can't wait to see your reaction to season 4.

The fact that this season is a slower one is one of the reasons why I enjoy it so much. Look, I enjoy action as it's actually my favorite genre of media, but, as I grow older, I enjoy the smaller, still moments just as much. They're what make the action more impactful (if you've made the movie/show correctly). Getting to see the characters, outside of the teenagers of course, just be themselves without Karate (for the most part) is refreshing for us and for them. Ali was a good balancing point for Daniel and Johnny. They're both so stubborn and sure that they're in the right that they don't really look at it from each others' point of view. A visit from her gave them a different perspective that they needed to see. These Cobra Kai kids need to relax. Kyler got taken down like the punk he is lol
