WTF IS THIS? These aren't Snivy!!!...anyways, let's talk Feed Snivy! Or, not. Or, somewhat? As I expressed in my last post and elsewhere, I wanted Feed Snivy to be something of an engine for similar intimate-character-feeding experiences. The entire last update was essentially set up for this. I mean, I like Snivy. Enough to make a game about feeding one. But when you make a Grass Snake into a Grass Pile of Lard for a few months, the gratification only lasts for so long. I think Snivy's well off now, being a big immobile blob. People seem satisfied now with the Snivy's size and aren't pestering me as much for bigger. Admittedly, I'm a little sick of seeing that smug thing's stupid punchable yet fattenable little face. I think I've got that little passing hyperfixation out of my system now. Hopefully everyone's happy, at least. So, let's move onto new hyperfixations!People were very receptive to the prospect of custom characters in the game! So much so that I've received about a dozen prospective commissions for them and numerous more requests. Some of those are materializing as we speak, some of them are yet to come, some were...um...well...Nonetheless, yes, Feed Snivy is continuing, but I don't think Snivy's experience will be continued (at the very best, it may be polished further down the line). Sorry if this is sad! I think having more experiences will be more fun to work on rather than putting all of my cards into just Snivy. As said before I've had ruminations of feeding multiple characters as different games so putting all of those ideas into one game seems like the best bet! From commissioners, you can expect one magical flaming fox starter and a mute, potbellied insectoid-equine, thanks to their kind patronage. From my own accord, you may also expect a smug mermaid-robot, an extraterrestrial, bossy secretary, and two eccentric candy-themed princesses in time for a favorite holiday (at least one of them, hopefully); perhaps more in the future. Each character may also get their own scenes and a set of flavorful items for them to dine upon, alongside their numerous expressions, chatter and other novelties. You might've also missed it, but since the last update's release, I did push some quick updates onto Feed Snivy. One common complaint was about the item economy. You're buried in a lot of low-tier items, and it became very time-consuming trying to get poor old Snivy to gain any meaningful weight from the smorgasbord of tiny snacks. Since then, I added an "Upgrade" system, which allows you to upgrade these lower-value items to higher ones. This may shed some calories and other benefits, but it does save time. (Keep in mind, this is all modular and is just defined per Snivy's experience). I also tossed in a special, iconic cheat code to quickly allow a player to see all the game's surprises, if they don't have time for silly things like "playing the game".Speaking of, the actual "game" of Feed Snivy. I'll be honest. It's kind of boring and repetitious. Simply put, I had no idea how to make getting the food very fun. The actual play experience was sort of an afterthought, whipped up on a whim. (As a fun fact, the skill-check-meter game was inspired by the "Fishing" minigame in Anti-Idle: The Game. What's that? If you know, you know). A lot of fetish games in the genre are sort of like this. They have the idea of "oh well, I want to see a character get fat", and they come up with that part first, but then they realize they're making a video game and have to put some excuse in actually making that experience sort of stimulating to a human's ape-brain beyond the sexually-gratifying experience of seeing a character grow larger. How will I resolve this issue? Well...um...I don't know, really. The experience of Feed Snivy is very much the fattening part. So I suppose I've fallen into that pitfall as well. But I do have ideas. So if a fetish game just comes up with one specific random minigame to make that main experience more fun, what if Feed Snivy, befitting of its scope creep nature, didn't just have one minigame for that, but MULTIPLE? General takes on various genres that ultimately serve the meta goal for getting food for your character. Don't like one minigame? Hey, there's probably another that can stimulate you for a bit. Call it an "arcade" or something. Get bored of one, move onto another. It'll be like Action 52 but good or something. And, of course, these games will all be modular, etc. so each character can have different graphical takes on them. Not to say anything specific, but if it's a Pokemon, you can swap out the graphics in a minigame for ones befitting of the Pokemon series, or whatnot. I'm mostly spitballing here about the minigames, but I have a few ideas for them. For each character released I'll see if I can add an additional minigame. Again, it's all just vibes and what I'd want to work on at the time. Aside from that, what else could I do? One sour spot is that I feel like the implementation of character interaction mechanics is pretty needlessly hardcoded; at the moment, it's only "rub", "kiss", and "smack". What if a character could have different types of interactions? This should probably be defined outside of the game's code, and be more modular in general.I'd probably want to improve how the game handles dialogue, as well. The initial ambition was something Ace Attorney-like with distinct effects per text character (like playing sounds, colors, animations, other effects, etc.) but the crunch made me axe this system. So I'd definitely like to revisit this for the future. Additionally, some additional "juice" could be added for some actions. Particles when chewing and other cool effects. Again, all a matter of what I can actually implement. With custom characters, I definitely do want to flex my animation muscles a bit. Some say Snivy felt stiff, and though how I "animate" them is kind of not really "real animation", I would like them to have some more pizzazz and work on that future. And I probably want to see their butts somehow. What, did I say something? Also now that I will be doing these non-Snivy characters, is the title "Feed Snivy" for the game still appropriate? People will recognize it as such, but it won't necessarily be appropriate. Some have suggested "Feed Snivy and Friends", but Snivy doesn't have any friends but (You). If you guys can come up with some other more fitting title, let me know in the comments.I should say, if you are interested in commissioning a custom character, these are certainly still open; get in touch anytime anywhere. Just know that it takes a lot of work, and I'm one of the only people capable of such a thing...you won't whine when I give you the price, right?!And one more thing, I did make a handy guide for modding the game on this page on the WeightGaming wiki, if one is curious and capable (and doesn't want to pay that stupid ShweetMagnet for a fat scrimblo!):https://wiki.weightgaming.com/en/community/games/feed-snivyThanks for reading, and look forward to more updates for Feed Sni-, I mean, "Untitled ShweetMagnet Feeding Experience". https://files.catbox.moe/fgbtzc.webm
