January Newsletter: Catching Up (Patreon)
Content
Hello, beautiful Patreon people! It’s morning, I’m back in Seattle, and in honor of a year of getting stuff done, I am writing a non-grandiose newsletter surveying the scene in 2024. Today I need to bounce some stems to bring to our next studio session, which starts on Monday. Before that, a friend is visiting, and I miiiight spend some time at AnthroNorthwest, Seattle’s fledgling furry con. I rang in the new year in Delaware at the New Year’s Furry Ball, guessing at the chords to Bohemian Rhapsody as a hotel room full of friends and strangers sang along.
I’m all in patchwork pieces right now, so I’ll probably take a look at the calendar today and figure out a plan of attack for this month. In fact, I’m doing it right now. We’re in the studio for two weeks, so we’ll probably throw our Patreon streams towards the end of the month. I would love to see you all at another digital dance party. It looks like this month’s archive Sundays will include our memorable encounter with Adam Driver, Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig. I just watched half of an Adam Driver movie, 65, on the flight home. (Driver good, movie just ok.)
I also listened through our album tracks as they currently stand while watching The Bad Guys on mute. We would like to have our album finished by sometime this summer (finished on our end, mind you - then we’ll take a peek at releasing the thing). It’s got a full skeleton now, every song mapped out musically; just final takes, additional arrangement, and lyrics need to be filled in now. Listening to the works in progress made me both pleased and scared; pleased at how solid they seem, and scared of screwing up the balance in the second half of the process. But that fear exists separately from the actual process, which is day-to-day little decisions. So far those little decisions have worked, so the anxiety is just a bit of static I’m fairly used to by this point.
I’ve never been a new years’ resolution guy, but I would like to write more about my life this year - journal entries, fictionalized short pieces about what’s going on, stuff I’m keeping for my own sake. I kept a journal last year tracking stuff I read and watched; maybe this year I’ll have the juice to capture some fuller portraits of what’s going on.
That’s all from me for now! Happy new ears
