So the emotional rollercoaster begins...

tova~

this season... <3

Olivia Owens

I binged the whole damn thing. Cried from begining to end as I did with this single episode. Also just wanna put this out there, as someone on the Ace spectrum, Isaac and the not wanting to teach the others vocab had me screaming YES at the top of my LUNGS. I cannot tell you how tiring it is. Bc most of the time you either get the slight twist in the nose or the dismissive spiel of 'you just need to find the right man' 'you just wanna be different'. Or they're like oh thats not that big of a deal and its LIKE YES IT IS. If I had a character like him growing up I would have felt so seen and everything would have made so much more sense. I always think back to season two when he would sit alone outside as all the couples flirted within. It makes you feel naturally isolated. I just love how they treat his story so authentically and dont skip over him like the majority skip over us irl.

Emily Brown

I love how relatable your reaction to this show is. All the feels! It’s sooo good!

Mari-Emm

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT SEEING HOW YOU HANDLE THIS SEASON. (It's gonna be a wild one.)

brittanydiamond
>>151349389

The way they've handled Isaac is truly a blessing. I cannot *wait* for The Wife to hear the vocab line, as a demi she's gonna be a MESS.

brittanydiamond
>>151358692

Every damn year I lull myself into a false sense of 'oh yeah Heartstopper I love that show like everyone else does,' and then I hit play on a new season and lose my SHIT. <3

Olivia Owens
>>151349389

For real any of his friends just making him feel included hits a special place in my heart. I cant wait for her to see it too! <3

Once_upona_fae

I adore this show, and your reactions are so relatable!!

Helmi

I can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the season! It was AMAZING!! (I think I cried at least once every episode...)

Gigi LaRue

The way I’m refreshing this post every hour is insane behavior. I’m way too obsessed with this show 🖤🖤🖤

Olivia

the ending scene of ep2 broke me in the comics but absolutely DESTROYED ME in the series 😭kit connor the actor that you are, i will get you your second emmy!!!

slg

Please take your time with edits/uploads. We’re eager, but your continued health is more important. “takes extra editing to… appear coherent” 😂 excitement is warranted and coherence is highly overrated🤪

Dougie

Yes, take your time! We’ll be here waiting patiently

kai

i light up every time i get that heartstopper notification! take ur time ♡

Emily Brown

Olivia Coleman wasn’t available this season and that talk at the end of Epi 2 is, as you saw, SUPER important and a beloved part of the comic, so people were nervous about how it would go without her. Per usual, Alice knocked it out of the park. It’s just as gorgeous and heartbreaking as we all hoped. Also, Nick’s mom is Olivia Coleman and his aunt is Haylee Atwell! No wonder he’s so great!

Moka Yikuk

I'm so excited to see you react to episode 3! I always love your reactions💕💕

des williams

are the vidyard uploads getting desynced for anyone else, or is it just my post-helene signal messing with me 😭 the audio and video will get desynced by a few seconds, and every time i restart it does it again after a minute or two. just me?

Zandalore
>>151591059

I have also been having that same problem. I assumed it was just me but this isn't the first time its happened with Vidyard either.

Karen Dougherty

Darcy living at Tara's hit home. My college gf and I spent one summer together together at her parent's home on Cape Cod. I don't think either of us were prepared for living together 24/7. Even without the mental health issues both of us had, it was a lot, to put it mildly.

Moka Yikuk

Episode 3 really made me cry like I've never cried in my life, I’m exited to see you react to episode 4!!

Dionne Lakey
>>151591059

It happens to me every now and again and I just press rewind once. It goes back about 10 seconds and then it resyncs back up.

Mari-Emm

After reading the comics and watching this show I got a scary realization: I could've been Charlie if things didn't turn out differently. At least there's a possibility of that. So this series is both really comforting to me and real scary to follow. Damn what an odd feeling...

Helmi
>>151627826

Same. I relate to Charlie on a scarily personal level, and that's why I was honestly a bit scared going into this season, knowing what was coming since I'd already read the comics. Fortunately they handled everything really well, which tbh isn't that surprising, but it didn't make me any less scared.

kai

OHHH boy gearing up for episode 4. brilliantly made, i think it’s my favorite episode in all of Heartstopper

kai

Them choosing the song Black Friday in episode 4 was criminal. I was attacked by Alice personally 😭

Moka Yikuk

Episode 4 it’s definitely my favorite one of this season, I’m exited to see you react to episode 5!!!!!

Jamie

As someone with food issues (anorexia), I can tell you that I cut all my food up. When my issues were really bad, when I was a teenager, I'd do it so it looked like I was eating more than I was and eating around people is hard because in my case, it was hard to hide barely touching my food. I'm a lot better now, I've gained weight, but it's still a struggle sometimes. It's always there, even with therapy. I still cut up my food and have a lot of rules and stuff but I'm doing good some days. Progress. Small wins, etc.

brittanydiamond
>>151711148

Ohhh, anxiety around trying to hide the fact that you're not eating much/at all makes so much sense that I can't believe it didn't occur to me. Thank you for sharing, all of my ED experience is with the opposite issue which can create blind spots. I'm new to ED recovery and can definitely empathize with day to day progress and small wins, sending love. <3

Jamie
>>151711148

I have some OCD issues as well. Things like I can only eat at certain times, I don’t like any of my food to touch other foods on my plate, I eat one thing at a time (like, say I’ll eat all my meat, then move on to the next thing), things like that. I’ve had some treatment and a lot of therapy, so I’ve gotten a lot better but it’s still there. I hate to say that I’m in “recovery” because I feel like for me, it’s always going to be there in some shape or form, but you know, some days are better than others and I just keep trying to move forward. I’m wishing you all the luck that your journey is a bit smoother than mine. ❤️

Eric

I really like your reactions, I have watched the show itself 3 times so far and about a dozen different reactions, and your reactions always seem the most genuine emotionally. I find it amazing how this “teen” show has the ability to touch people of all ages (I am almost 50). I just really want to thank you for going through the effort and uploading your reactions, they are great. Also, I think they are Fiona and Shrek.

Olivia

episode 4 is, like you said, easily in my top 3 episodes of heartstopper across all 3 seasons and it may even be my favourite - it is so well written, so well acted and everything about it is just amazing!!

Dionne Lakey

I love how in episode 4 we get Charlie's mental health from three different points of view: Nick, his own and his friends. Even their friends point of view of how Nick is doing through that video was so poignant.

Emily Brown

I love when Charlie is asking Tao about Imogen and Sahar and says “Nick was being way too empathetic about it”. That boy knows a sexuality crisis when he sees one, of course he’s empathetic!

tova~

I don't know if you ended up realising it later on or not, but Tara and Darcy went as Fiona and Shrek for the Halloween party!

Josh

Nick staring into Tao's camera, with that look he had, and the way he told Charlie he loved him changed something in my brain. Also the song that was playing while that scene happened.

Dennis Verner

Elle's portrait of Charlie (I wonder if Alice did it?) is one of the best renderings of Joe I have ever seen. It is really beautiful.

Emily Brown
>>151358692

Lol, I was just watching through Alex Chris's backlog of Heartstopper reactions and noticed your comment because we have the same name. I guess we have similar tastes as well

Emily Brown
>>151358692

Haha. Yep, saw your name on Brad Evan’s page recently, too 🤭 you have excellent taste and an excellent name 💖

Dionne Lakey

Just saw Patrick Walters (exec producer) on X(twitter) saying that Elle went as Pop Art to the Halloween party. Neat

Dionne Lakey

Love the Winter episode- getting Christmas and New Year's in one go was perfect. I really enjoy how Alice has adapted her novella and graphic novel in this show. They must be having so much fine getting to decide how to make their work come to life.

Tyla
>>151591059

My video freezes entirely after a few seconds. Every video, even when I skip forwards. Annoying as it is, I've just started downloading the videos.

Vanessa Love

episode 5 reaction is the best reaction to ever reaction. omg. also much needed after episode 4. more omg.

Emily Brown

Not only is Jonathan Bailey in the show, but he asked to be in the show because he’s such a big fan 💖

holly butcher

about the way charlie squeezes his arm (and I'll admit it took me way too long to put this together myself..is this is a spoiler? I dunno lol ) it's actually because that's where his scars are from self harming. granted for all i know by now you might have already seen the ep/s where they show them and already worked that out much faster than me lol :P. anyway in answer to your question is it a self so soothing thing: Kind of? but also not really (in the sense that yes when he touches them i guess he's reminded of the thing he used to do that made him feel better but also that thing is not a good healthy thing to do to feel better so..yeah).

ÁineBCM
>>151841311

Also, In episode 3 when they are on Nick's bed before going to Charlie's for the talk with his parents. Kit puts his hand on that spot, in character just holding Charlie's arm affectionally as they have their conversation and it's really subtle but Joe does react to being touched there.

kai

i love when The Wife joins, you two crack me up!!

Leslie

I work in mental health, Ep.3 was beautifully done, most kids are not this supported by anyone, especially their parents, Heartstopper really creates a world of acceptance on multiple levels, it should be required to watch it.

Nick Izaak

You and that unibomber have the best reactions every season. ❤️

Dionne Lakey
>>151841311

When he presses on his arm it's also a way to continue to subtly self harm. He's pressing on a wound. So yeah, it's been awful seeing him do it from season 2. In the Louvre he was scratching on it whilst Nick was first talking to him about noticing his eating habits.

Olivia

jonathan has asked to be part of the show since it came out but alice had said that they just couldn't find a role for him to play so, when they decided to add one of the mini comics to the show, he was just such a perfect fit for the character because he looks exactly like him!!

kai

the flashback to Nick and Charlie’s first kiss had me sobbing, they we just BABIES in season one 😭

Leslie

I’m ready to fight about the fluff critique too, wasn’t Charlie bullied and in an abusive relationship on the pilot episode? There were signs of mental illness from the beginning. Everyone had a backstory with problems, absent fathers, overbearing mothers, being an outcast or too much pressure to be perfect, just because there is joy with the pain doesn’t make it fluff, it’s very real, the show has so much truth and depth, it’s nuanced and layered and subtle, it can feel good and not be fluff.

Dionne Lakey

I haven't rewatched this episode as much as the earlier ones, and I forgot how much deep stuff every character in it is going through. Tara and Nick are so incredibly awesome. Her helping him to articulate his feelings, and by so doing, talking about her own pressures was so Well done. They're healing each other. It's that thing in friendships where there are certain people that you talk to about certain things. Both Darcy and Tao are there for their partners in loving support but sometimes you need someone going through close to exactly what you've been experiencing to talk to. Elle has that in her trans and non-binary friends and Nick and Tara have it in each other. The great thing about Nick driving Tara to ballet is they have set up a regular time to catch up and check in with each other each week. These kids all have such grown up relationships. Any they're showcasing to even adults, that it takes a village to be a person - without leaning too much on just one. It's why I'm so glad Tori has Michael. She needs someone to be her person.

Dionne Lakey

Nick and Charlie's 1st year anniversary would have been around Charlie's birthday, so maybe that's why they skipped it. Also, they already did Charlie's 2 month anniversary gift in season 2.

Marta

ohhh the fluff critique grinds my every gear— also in what world is heartstopper not portraying realistic problems for teenagers?? the issues are dealt with w/a touch of idealisation but it pretty much mirrors the conversations between the 17-yo i was and my most well-meaning friends

Dougie
>>152071408

I have never related to a show more in my life. And that’s coming from a 31 year old man. I have no idea what these people are talking about when they say it’s not realistic.

MavenCree

I finally have time to start season 3. I was going back and forth over whether to watch it on my own first or watch it with Brittany. I'm joining Queen B.

MavenCree

K, this show makes me yell things I never though I would. During the picnic when Nick got up to go to Charlie. What came out of my head? "JUST.... BABY BIRD THAT SHIT OR SOMETHING! Wait, what?"

slg

Tyrion Lannister (GoT): That’s what I do. I drink and I know things. The Wife: That’s what I do. I cosplay the Unabomber and I know things. Thank you for sharing another season with us 🩷

slg
>>152004014

Absolutely, excellent points. Thank you. I think because so much of queer media, historically, contained extreme trauma and explicit sexual content, the unfiltered joy, reduced homophobia (comparatively), loving acceptance, and less sexualized content makes people see it as “less serious”, aka fluff, but that’s what makes this series so essential. We have been conditioned to be devastated by queer media and perhaps people are confused when that doesn’t happen. For all the things you listed, there is a a lot of depth in Heartstopper. 💜

Chris

Your wife is the BEST. Love your reactions together. I might have a crush on her. Sorry not sorry!

Lauren Mac

With regard to David’s mustache, I read somewhere that he was filming a World War II drama at the time that’s why he looks that way. The crappy ‘stashe works for the character, so I guess that was lucky. 😆

MavenCree

Got paused again. On to episode 2! Hailey Atwell should've been the first female Doctor Who. I will die on this hill.

MavenCree

Episode 3: Charlie says sorry more than anyone I've ever heard, and I'm Canadian. Charlie, delete the word "Perfect" from your vocabulary please. Immediately. That song at the end - I literally said, "What the f*ck song?" When Brittany say, "This f*cking song!"

MavenCree

Episode 4: Nick rolls up as Captain America Me (in the nicest way possible): No. F*ck you. F*ck you. F*ck you... I think I said it about 12 times... Imogen making out. Me: Oh Hi Imogen. Imogen hi! Hi Imogen! Oh hi Imogen. This episode is making skip like a scratched record. (Does anyone understand that reference? Cause someone in that group said they don't know what a Blu-Ray player is an now I have to turn to dust apparently...) Okay, now they're calling a mini-camcorder a 'vintage' camera. Exactly how old am I???

MavenCree

Episode 5: Brittany and the Wife talking about the blinds... Me: Wow, you are so married... LOL The Meet-Cutie-iest Meet Cute there ever was... There's a lot at the end of this episode, but um... what I want to know is... WHO THE HELL DECIDED TO TRUST HARRY WITH FIREWORKS????!!!

MavenCree

Episode 8: My only problem with this episode.... I wanted to see the two teachers together at the fair! Whether they got busted or not. One more scene!

Sarah

I am hoping and praying we get a season 4 to wrap things up. I know that's what Alice wants.
