CHM MONTALIVET

The first of ten French naturist destinations on the itinerary...and the one where I felt the most miserable...because, unfortunately, I was so unwell!

Just a few days before arriving at Europe's oldest naturist holiday resort, I came down with a nasty cold that, sadly, prevented me from being able to truly enjoy and explore CHM.

Yep, I was pretty much confined to my mobile home for almost 3 days due to lethargy and coughing fits...so, after months of planning, anticipation and excitement (oh, and flying almost 24 hours across the globe!), you can probably imagine how disappointed I was feeling to have my French Nakation start off like this...

Butt! I still bring you along for my candid experience at CHM...and provide you with as much information as possible to help you plan your next trip there.

CHM, established in 1950, stands for ‘Centre Héliomarin de Montalivet’, and claims to be the world's first naturist holiday resort!

It is also iconic in the naturist world due to being the birthplace of the 'International Naturist Federation (INF)' in 1953!

It is located in Vendays-Montalivet, in the south-west of France, in the Aquitaine region...which is about a 2 hour drive from Bordeaux.

Nestled amongst 200 hectares of wild pine forest, it also backs onto 2km of naturist beach along the Atlantic Ocean.

CHM truly is an entire village in its own right...with a ‘commercial centre’ consisting of around 26 business and more than 3,000 pitches spread over 21 ‘neighbourhoods’!!!

CHM has a commercial centre which boasts around 26 businesses. Some of these include:

• 10 restaurants

• Newsagent

• 2 bakeries

• Fishmonger

• Butcher

• 2 supermarkets

• Laundrette

• Bicycle rental and repair

• Hardware store

• Organic food shop

• Hairdresser

The intention of this commercial centre set up is so that naturists never need to actually leave the naturist campsite during their holiday...which means that you also never need to put clothes on during the entirety of your holiday (weather-permitting of course)! Now that’s a true naturist holiday!

Then there is also the aquatic waterpark which includes:

• An aquatic park with 4 waterslides

• Whirlpool and deck with sun loungers

• Paddling pool for the kids (10cm deep)

• Playground

• Indoor lane swimming pool

• Jacuzzi

On top of all of this...there is always something to do at CHM. When you arrive at reception, you will be given a guidebook with a host of practical information, as well as a schedule for various activities, including:

• Yoga sessions 2-3 times a week

• Surf school/lessons

• Open air cinema

• Flea market - Once a month in July and August

• tennis tournaments

• darts competition

• petanque competition

• jamobon weighing

• “lancer de pignes” (pine cones throwing).

• dance parties and live music
