Our newest and last challenge for the month of May...a BALANCING challenge! 🙌🏽

The challenge (to begin with) is to balance on one leg at a time, for 30 seconds on each foot.

Now, this may or may not be so simple for you, but the benefits indicate the plethora of benefits adding in balance training to our daily ritual can be. Some of these benefits include:

  • Improved body awareness 'proprioception' - this awareness of our limbs in space can actually help to decrease the likelihood of injury
  • improved coordination
  • improved joint stability
  • improved reaction time

Balance is something that actually deteriorates over time, as we age. This exercise, and other balance training, is important in maintaining and improving balance, helping to prevent our chances of falling etc.

So! Maybe give it a go after you've had a cold shower and brushed your teeth with your less dominant hand (because, yes, we are still carrying on with these challenges too! 😉), when you're feeling alert and focused.

Check my Snapchat for the challenge 😉 I have given instructions, modifications and tips 😘

PS...do it in the nude if you can...of course! haha but totally ok to do clothed too 🙊

Enjoy and let me know how you go with it!

With love,

Jessa

Also if you find it to easy or want more of a challenge close your eyes while doing this as having your eyes open allows you to react better to slight movements if your eyes are closed the brain has to work harder to pick up changes and react to counter slight movements

The Nude Blogger

yes, I will be adding that in during the week to add more difficulty to the challenge for those wanting it ☺️ thought it best to start off simple, with the basics, and then layer the challenge 😉 but go for it straight up if that feels right for you! Go you!

I was in the Army what your doing in the pic is part of a drill movement and had to hold that position for sometimes 5min

The Nude Blogger

oh wowzers! well you're well-established then! Maybe I'll give it a go for 5 minutes at the end of the week, as I'll also be encouraging others to increase the length of time they balance for 😉

Yeah as an athletic trainer we do this stuff and more all the time. People dont realize how hard a simple task like this can be

The Nude Blogger

yep! spot on! so many people struggle with balance. I see it all the time with yoga. so starting off simple with modifications is a great way to help people build their confidence and actually give it a go ☺️ thanks for sharing your experience as an athletic trainer 🙏🏽

The one-legged balance with eyes closed is predictive of mortality and declines predictably with age. At my age, 6 seconds is normal, but I can manage over 2 minutes on either leg. (Other measurements associated with longevity include grip strength, VO2 max, and being able to get up off the floor with two, one or no hands helping.

Jess just thought I would let you know I'm mixing this challenge up so it's more challenging I can do leg up eyes open and closed, I tried leg up eyes open while brushing teeth with opposit hand at the same time did that so trying leg up eyes closed while brushing my teeth with opposit hand not lasting long currently
