Hmmm... okay, so I'm in the middle of coloring Brooklyn, as you can see, and I'm running into a dilemma. He's very monotone. It's creating lots of color deserts and visual confusion where his appendages overlap.

One way to resolve this is through shading, which can show what's in the foreground and background. It would also make sense to do so because the show was ALWAYS cel shaded. Brooklyn was never just flat colored in the show, so it wouldn't look as snazzy or authentic leaving it as flat colored. But the problem with that is, well... I'm not very good at it. ^^; Also, it will cause the picture to take a little longer to come out.

So I wanted to ask you guys what you thought. I uploaded a partially-done flat color by itself and with a splash of cel shading in progress. What do you guys think looks better? Should I just go for it?

Go for it! I think some of the shading you've got is already pretty good. Be bold =3

I would also say go for it! Like you said, he is very monotone and giving him more shading and maybe give the picture more depth. It's okay for me that the picture takes longer to finish that way. Take your time :)
