Big welcome hug to my new patrons and a big warm hug to those of you who have been around for a while now.

I know 2020 has been difficult for all of us so I believe now more than ever we got to do our best to take good care of ourselves. If you don't know what the best way to take care of yourself is, please reach out to someone professional who can guide you.

I believe connecting to our foundation is perhaps the most important step in caring for ourselves well. When in doubt, I look over: food, sleep and moving my body. Setting myself up for great sleep, making sure I'm nurturing my body with the energy and nutrients I need and working that body, whether be through a nice walk outside or yoga guided by our dear friend Adriene.

For me it's also very important to find a balance between work and "me-time". That means setting necessary boundaries, carving out space to entertain my hobbies and meditate or journal by myself. One of my biggest hobbies is baking! I've loved it since I was a lil kid making sugary cookies with my farmor (grandma). It's almost hard to explain how something so simple as seeing the dough I've kneaded with care rise in front of me, can be so uplifting.

It's easy to get caught up in the heavy, in the serious, in the dark. But especially in the darker months of the winter we got to sit up, take a breath and make an effort to turn those lights on. Whatever they may be for you. A cosy stream, writing, a cup of tea, a good film, playing an instrument, candles, your favourite game, a run outside?

I'd love to hear what your "lights" are, what brings you happiness and helps support you when things seem dark. I'd love to collect little sparks of joy like a collection of stars in the night sky.

I love this invitation <3 I know for me, the people in my life are one of my biggest sources of light. Be they my friends and family, my online community(lookin at you, Joyleenie ^_~), or even just the familiar gas station attendants, the positive connections I build with those around me grant me much comfort. But we cannot always be close to those who light our lives in that way, especially at this time in our planet's history, and must therefore nurture our own inner lights. For me, that looks like setting aside time for healthy habits, both physical and mental. It takes the form of practicing my martial arts, meditation with my cats, taking time to slow down with Yoga (with Adrienne, of course <3 I can't speak for anyone else, but she is definitely -my- dearest yogi), or spending time on a hobby, like art or video gaming. I have often felt (and was most certainly -taught-), especially in my youth, that time taken for oneself is selfishness, that relaxation is laziness, and self-care is equal to self idolatry. While those things can be true, i feel it is only in this universal sense: You can have too much of a good thing. For example, eating enough fibre is important for digestive health, but too much is a bad time for the bowels XD. Such is life. By that same token, to pass on our personal joys, and not nurture our foundation, is the same as never eating vegetables in order to avoid constipation. Thank you for the lovely call to remember our lights as the darkness grows. The dark is always followed by dawn, and though the night can be very long, I like to think that every light we share, no matter how small, contributes to the glow that keeps us safe until sunrise <3
