To Set The Scene: You can't sleep (again) because you have something really big on your mind. You are staying up on your computer to try to avoid thinking about the big bad thing. You asked your girlfriend to encourage you get to sleep earlier because you've been so tired lately (from being up thinking about the big bad thing). She notices you still up, so she decides to exercise the authority you gave her, to make you turn everything off, and go to sleep.
