Hello all!

Time for a monthly update.

I’m just going to get the bad news out of the way first. It finally happened. The game is catching up with me. My god I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could have enough content ahead of me that I could keep giving you guys consistent updates. But unfortunately, between having to work a full-time job, having a family and having a home to maintain, I just don’t get enough time for that. I suppose a stupid naïve part of me was really hoping that I would be earning enough to jack the job in and focus solely on Origin Story by now. But I’m afraid that is not the case. Not even close.

I keep trying to remind myself that there’s not many devs who do it like I do and only start working on their next chapter after they’ve released the previous one. Still, I can’t help but shake that fear that I’m going to disappoint my community by eventually falling into that same pattern that those other devs follow.

So, I now found myself in a position where I have two options.

Option 1 is I still release Chapter 7 in April, as per my estimation with the usual 3-month window between releases. I’m far enough into Chapter 8 that I may well still be able to release that 3 months later. The trouble is, with this option, I’m absolutely going to fall behind after Chapter 8, and the break between releases will suddenly increase to 5-6 months.

Option 2 is I push the release to May. That will give me some breathing room to progress further on Chapter 8 and maybe even start Chapter 9. This will also mean going forward, the break between releases will extend even more and you might find releases coming out every 4/5 months instead of every 3.

Ultimately, while I only have a limited amount of time to work on this game, long breaks between releases are becoming more and more inevitable, and I want to delay that as long as I can.

So, I’m going to go with Option 2. I know that will suck for anyone who is expecting it in April, and I’m sorry. But I promise to work on Origin Story every minute that I can to keep the updates coming as frequently as possible. Though, not at the expense of my marriage – she gets lonely sometimes ya know?

Now, on to some good news. Thanks to the support you guys give me, and to a couple of successful months for Origin Story, I have invested in some things to help speed development along even further.

The least exciting one (but still exciting) is that I have acquired myself a graphics tablet. As you all know, my post-work process is very hands on. Now it’s going to be literally hands on. Whenever I post, particularly when I’m doing it in bulk, I develop some quite bad pains in my wrists and hands from all the repetitive stuff I’m doing with the mouse. Now, I can free myself of the mouse and physically draw all that manually painted light/shadows and detail, and with significantly less pain.

The more exciting one, is I now have a second rig purely for rendering. Previously, I was unable to do anything that required an ounce of graphics card while my render queue was going, that includes post work. Now, I can pose scenes or do post-work to my hearts content, while the render rig pumps out the queue. And its faster than my main one too! Also, twice as much VRAM.. so that’s less scenes with multiple characters where I’m having to render the same scene two or three times and composite them together in photoshop.

Thanks to some advice from Tropecita Games (developer of My Dorm), the posing rig is sync’d to the render rig, so every scene I set up is immediately ready to be rendered on the other rig. I'm not super techie or anything, so to me it’s fucking dope. Though, we ‘re not going to talk about how Daz has made me want to punch stuff with its initial refusal to play nice and correctly read the asset library I sync’d over.

And to finish up, here’s a quick summary of upcoming chapters.

Chapter 7 fully done apart from one final lewd scene to write around already existing renders that I’ve been delaying because I didn’t want to do it too closely to the previous one that I recently finished . There's only so any sex scenes you can write before you get burnt out. All SFX are in and a whole bunch of new Creative Commons music are all in place along with a new “credits” menu where I can attribute them accordingly. I’m literally just waiting on finishing writing that last scene and then I’ll be ready to send it over to the testers.

Chapter 8 – 830 scenes rendered. Wait, make that 831.. my render rig just popped another one on my cloud storage as I typed (fucking dope).

That’s it for today.

As usual, thanks everyone for your support and patience. You guys are awesome.

Always make sure to breathe! I can only speak for myself, but a good quality product is worth waiting for!

While I definitely want to see a new chapter often, say once a week or so, I do see that exhaustion, an unhappy wife, house falling down around your ears and other annoyances, might put a slight crimp on your style. Health, family and job come first so an update about two or three times a year sounds reasonable. Take care of yourself, and thanks for a great game.

I can relate so much. Yes, I am a high tier sub; no, that does not give me any right to make you make your game. In my small amount of time doing this shit, it is more important that you are up-front about what is happening (as much as you want to divulge, of course), and do the things you need to to protect yourself from burnout. I have done it twice in the last 2 years. It sucks. I think you made the right choice. And it sounds like you do still enjoy it despite the pressure, which is paramount imo.

I love the story, art and characters so much. I'm always going to want more, but not at the cost of your health or happiness. Please work at a pace that is best for your life.

What ever Evelyn is wearing in the image I am here for it. Give me Evelyn in black all day every day. That necklace is really nice too. Now that that's out of the way. A May release isn't bad. You released in May of last year as well. So why make it a yearly tradition. I am cool with two updates a year that's more than most devs pump out. But you take as long as you need to make the product to your liking. I know I won't abandon you. I am too deep in the lore of OS to leave now. Plus I am waiting for a few things to happen with characters that haven't had their time to shine yet. Also don't sell the graphics tablet short that thing is going to be a life saver. If you don't mind me asking which one did you get? As always keep up the good work!

Was bound to happen since you're trying to juggle it all, but you're making the right call for sure. :) If you're not healthy, not happy, not having fun and not looking forward to working on the game when you sit down to it (most of the time anyway) it will show in everything you do. Then you'll only push harder to boost the quality back to where you feel it should be, the spiral down get's worse and then bad things happen. Have seen it too many times with dev's, and it's usually those who put out the best work that it happens to the most often. We don't need to add you to that stack. As the proverb states, "Good things come to those who wait" so you take the time you need. One way to look at it, is with a bit longer between releases, when they drop it'll make a bigger splash :)

Monthly Update 🙌🏻😁!!! Evelyn 😍!!! Doesn't sound that bad of news 😅. Sounds pretty normal to me... you're not going to disappoint anyone. We are all here because we love your game and want to support in its development. I say, Option 3. Go at your own pace and release it whenever it's ready. I always just let Devs do their thing. While I'm just chilling, vibing, living life, taking it one day at a time. Dev posts/interactions/comments are enough to keep me going strong. If a release comes out, AWESOME!!!! That'll just make my day EVEN better. If not, then just another day for me 😁. Great news on the graphics tablet. Amazing news on the second Rig. Always love it when Devs help each other. Thank you, Tropecita Games (respect), and your game was nice last time I played. Thanks for the update, JDOR! I'm ecstatic to play CH7!!!! Your game is easily one of my favorites and most looked forward to. Love and appreciate ya 😘❤️! As always hope everyone continues to have an amazing and awesome week! Catch you all—ON the next post ✌🏻😉!

Man you have such cool fans! And while i'm just a doddering fool, I agree with them. Do your thing, avoid burnout, keep yourself and the wife happy. We love your game, we're here for the long run. If we have to wait a bit more, we will. Just do what you have to do. :)

I, like other gamers, have sadly seen a number of talented AVN devs burn out in recent years, so I'm totally in agreement with the posts below. Do whatever you need to so as to ensure that your well being is priority number one, and you don't become another burnout statistic. Your openness with the OS community on this is appreciated.

It doesn't matter, when you think about it, you're almost halfway through the 20 chapters you planned, time flies and without you even noticing it, it's all coming together. I think it's healthy that people in your house know about this hobby, almost all developers work hidden in a top secret base like the Sisterhood, but without the transport 😄. The story is starting to get good, so it's expected that it won't be produced at the same pace. Good luck 🎈!
