Sometimes I wish I could not give a shit about some things... Although that would not be me. And I like me being emotional, empathetic and compassionate. Bit sometimes I loose myself in others...
Maybe the key is to get closer to giving a shit without loosing the essence of caring. Maybe is accepting, without loosing one's boundaries. Maybe is to cultivate healthy boundaries.

I've seen his before with therapists, including one I'm married to. You've got such natural empathy and plain basic interest in other people it's hard to regulate boundaries. Being able to switch or compartmentalise is probably how the rest of us cope, my interest and concern is totally genuine but then I'm able to close that folder and do something else with 100% focus. When alerted to an issue or when I return to the first person my interest is again 100%. Things around family and loved ones do seep into all of my life and it's hard to completely work this way, I'm not actually a psychopath.

How interesting that your partner is a therapist, and that what I say resonates with what I wrote.
