What he thinks about Lunar lake for gaming handheld based on current status of arc igpus? Also just how bad is the MSI claw compared to the competition due to using MTL?

Lucas

If these new Qualcomm cpus turn out alright and Windows on ARM stops being a giant trashfire, do you think NVIDIA might give another Shield tablet thing a try?

Donn

Just watched Tom's review of the MinisForum tablet, and my question is, will Microsoft ever release a Surface tablet with a Strix Point APU?

GiantMrTHX

Seeing how they went for arm Qualcomm soc I would doubt it.

mattie

Interested in both your thought on a possible upswing of x86-64 tablets in the wake of the V3; surface devices tend towards overpriced and there's nothing else in the windows-tablet format - historically for good reason, but are we about to see a resurgence?

KarbinCry

With x86 big, powerful APUs gaining purchase in handhelds, what is the future of smaller, usually ARM powered, handhelds? Already today, top of the line smartphone chips can beat Nintendo Switch in performance and battery life - with emulation... is that the future? Or could we see ARM based handhelds creep into PC gaming, with Linux (Steam OS) and Windows on ARM seemingly moving forward?

TechnoLadz

I went to rewatch the Phawx' "Xbox Handheld is Possible..." video (April 2023), and all of the things he said, sounds like it could be done on a slightly modified Strix Halo. Do you think Microsoft would go for a slightly modified Halo SKU to release an Xbox Handheld (Such as 4nm, 8Z5C, 28 RDNA 3+ or 3nm, 8Z6C, 32 RDNA 5)?

Deadeyes

There's a lot of speculation that Microsoft could develop a branch of windows modeled after what Valve has been doing with the Steam Deck. Do you think this is likely? Do you think there's a snowball's chance it could be anywhere near as good?

10GHz Netburst

In recent years there has been an explosion of x86 gaming handhelds, do you think the market is oversaturated with companies just trying to get on The Next Thing, or do you think there is legitimately a demand?

10GHz Netburst

How do you see the x86 gaming handheld market competing with the mobile phone gaming market and the handheld consoles? Do you think it can entice substantial amounts of customers to step over from those established ecosystems?

Falto

I recently got my first amd laptop (asus g14 with 7940hs + 4060) and I have to say I am very surprised with it's performance, especially on the cpu side. The efficiency this laptop is really insane. As such does intel have any chance going forward in laptops? I feel like with right now amd way ahead of intel and even if arrow lake is more efficient, amd will have zen 5 to easily combat.

AI-Soldier789

Is it possible that in near future 1-5 Watt Handhelds can return with low Res screens or is the 10-25 Watt range the sett standard?

JonWickBoomStik

Do either of you feel the resurgence in mobile gaming is part of a change in American culture towards an increase in mobile gaming or is it just simply the success of the steam deck?

Cleansweep

How do you think x86 handhelds and high powered gaming tablets are going to coexist in the market? Are they going to fight for the same market segment, or will they carve out niches between phones and gaming laptops?

ZephyrXero

If we think of Strix Halo as just the beginning, how powerful could desktop/laptop APUs become? 40 CUs should put this iteration with equivalent performance to PS5 and XSX. But with the PS5 Pro supposedly sporting 60 CUs this fall, clearly AMD can take it further. Just how dense could future APUs be 2-3 years from now?

Swiggles

Hey Tom and phawx, with the introduction of Halo strix, do you think that this could be the Apple m1 moment for x86 and windows laptops. Do you think there's going to be any big shifts with the gaming handhelds with performance this package is a bit large and and may not scale performance meaningfully at sub 25w tdp for all we know.

AI Generated Fish

Hi Tom and guest, With the MSI claw being underwhelming to say the least, what are your thoughts on lunar lake in general and the possibility of a claw 2 with lunar lake?

AI Generated Fish

Strix Halo sounds like something targeted at creatives (high core count on CPU, iffy gaming performance vs a discrete GPU), what do you think would be the "perfect" apu configuration for laptop/small form factor?
