So, the year is almost over, Thanksgiving is almost here, and...well, let's talk about what are we thankful for! We know - this year has been an ODD one! But surely, something has happened that pleasantly surprised you or exceeded your expectations!

This is mostly meant for gaming hardware stuff, but you can certainly pitch other things at us that we will consider commenting on as well...although try to keep it on subject!

You have ~4 hours to submit below! Sorry for the short notice, but Dan is driving to Nashville for Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving, Tom and Dan! After all that's transpired this year, one thing I'm thankful for is the actually successful and impressive launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It seemed like almost everything else that was released this year was either uninteresting or a massive disappointment, especially following the first wave of Zen 5 CPUs and Arrow Lake. The 9800X3D clearly broke that trend and exceeded expectations across the board, pushing top end gaming performance for the first time in a while. It's even getting some of my friends who don't keep up with hardware excited. Here's to hoping 2025 will bring more actually innovative products that push the PC space forward (dual v-cache CCD 9950X3D please)!

I'm thankful the AMD is the company that secured a gaming DIY monopoly (CPU) this year and not Nvidia or Intel.

Black Myth Wukong is a game that I wasn't expecting to be as good as it was, the game was hyped through the roof and I was expecting the game to be just a fun game to play I wasn't expecting it to be a game I would poor 180 hours into. It is my personal game of the year. The graphics, gameplay, story, and customization was all a 10/10 for me. This was the first game I have seen that ray tracing makes a huge difference in the experience of the game. Can't wait for the DLC to drop for Chinese New Years.

First of all I am happy that Tom and Dan are healthy. Also I hope everyone in the mild discord is healthy! Regarding gaming news, I am happy that lower budget titles like astro bot and helldrivers 2 were a success. We want more of that. Hopefully I will have more time next year to play :)

Thankful I got a 7900xt at a great price this year so I can skip 2 generations from Nvidia of dumpster fire value. Also, thankful my 2021 laptop is going strong so I could skip the last 2 years of dumpster fire value laptop GPUs.

Cleansweep

Got a great deal on a 7800X3D + RX 7900 XTX after years of getting screwed by the GPU market being on fire every time I wanted to update. Now I can coast for a few years and experiment with AI as well.

Backcut

Thankful for the longevity of zen3 x3d performance as seen in initial zen 5 and arrow lake benchmarks. Thankful for the generous vram of relatively affordable cards like my RX 6800. Thankful for indie games like Manor Lords. Thankful for the MLID discord and all the members who contribute and make it fun and interesting!

My 5950x is still powerful enough. Thanks Tom for the advice.

For 2024 - We got a few great products; PS5 Pro, 9800X3D etc, M4 Macs. I'm more concerned about what comes later in 2025, or what 2026 will bring, like a lot of steep tariffs as well as real inflation. Having lived Australia back in the 1970s where tariffs literally doubled prices of electronics, cars etc. I'm hoping for the best but planning for the worst, like a dollar devaluation and far steeper inflation than anyone expects. In "bitcon" we trust.

I'm grateful that used and old stock gaming hardware has gotten so cheap. I recently bought a 1080p 100Hz monitor for $80, a new B450 motherboard for $60, and a used high-end model 5700xt for $120. It's easier than ever for people to get into PC gaming

Question Generated By JensenGPT

I'm thankful for 2 things. 1 - This year has been extremely interesting as far as gaming hardware goes, whether that be news, rumors, or releases. I didn't buy any new hardware this year but I've been consistently entertained just by the news and rumors alone. 2 - I have so many games to play right now that I lost count. It literally feels like I'll never run out of games to play.

Thankful a reputable channel for cutting edge technology topics and a good community exists - the simple things!

I’m thankful for Ai :D so many Ai products that have come out this year and are definitely not marketing but are useful additions to my life! Apple ai I can’t believe I’ve gone my whole life without it! Special shoutout to copilot! The moment I saw copilot certified arm laptops I knew it would be a great buy and my life has changed for the better! Thank you ai! Where would I be without you!

QuickJumper

This may seem maybe odd. But I am actually glad Intel is falling apart. The company has its best days long over. It's time for the market to restart and I am excited to see new products from more diverse set of companies than just amd, intel and nvidia.

Woody Chang

I'm thankful that AMD continues to support platforms for multiple generations. Instead of getting a 800 series board for my Zen 5 upgrade, I bought a 600 series board that was cheaper for mostly the same feature set. Also grateful that Tech youtubers/creators are still surviving despite the challenges. Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving!

I’m thankful Microsoft is going to treat Xbox hardware more like Surface hardware and take more steps to unify their ecosystem. I’m interested to see how a handheld and whatever console they ship next integrates with this strategy. By going multi-platform Microsoft is subsidizing my GamePass subscription with sales to Sony, Nintendo, and Steam users and I’m thankful for that. I hope it means more great games, more competition, and fewer layoffs and studio closures. I’m also thankful Sony updated the PS Portal to stream games directly without remote play. Competition is great. I’m thankful to you and the team as well Tom. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm glad people are getting less tolerant of bad products and poorly priced products. It's also good that some companies are being held more responsible with places like Gamer's Nexus and Jayz Two Cents calling them out (and starting legal processes in GN's case).

Dig Wiggler

I'm thankful for the Am4 platform. Nothing beats keeping a build going. Replaced a dying b350 motherboard with a "new" open box $60 Asrock board. Should be good for 7 more years

BaconHouse Collective

To clarify I'm not pro monopoly, AMD stills needs competition to prevent them becoming Nvidia, but they are the best option for a monopoly today

Trogdor

I'm thankful for a lot of things this year! Most of all, my first child was born and they are happy and healthy! It's been a tough year to focus on computer hardware for me, so I'm going to get myself a 4k OLED monitor on Black Friday and be happy with the hardware I have until my kid gets into tech. (Very thankful for OLED tech improving and getting cheaper.) Also very thankful for Bitcoin going craz lately, my kid will retire very comfortably.
