Evergreen topic in pc components: once see something you *need* for error margin of price, stop perfectionism and just grab it. If no critical need, this is not relevant. PC components go in cycles, should not take prices or availability for granted to stay forever as it is today.

Hi Tom, how is the 9070xt availability in the US? In Europe (germany) there are plenty (but not all) 9070xt models in stock and most of them priced at roughly 800€.

I looked at MicroCenter listings every morning for several months. On one occasion I saw a 5600x3d for $156 when it was normally $230, and it was a one-day sale/error. Also paid attention to the 6950xt as it was slowly dropping in price. While the reference model was $650, I snatched an OC Formula for $700 since I figured it would hold it's value better. So far that looks to be the case. The key is to be patient with whatever online or brick and mortar retailer you trust

I managed to get a 6900XT for MSRP on launch week and an MSRP 9070XT on launch day. In both cases it was due to understanding how my preferred retailer lists items. E.g. Knowing when they are likely to list items if the international release doesn't line up well with local time or if you need to search for the item as it may not initially be listed as a GPU. Of course, this all depends on individual retailers but this is how I managed to get my GPUs.

I'm really tempted to buy a 9070XT for 750€ right now for 4k120 gaming. Right now I'm on a 6800XT I bought used for 595€ including a waterblock in 2023, thanks to Nvidia not supporting the 1080 TI on Linux properly.

I managed to get an RTX 5070 for $550 at Best Buy online about 3 weeks ago. On launch day, I picked up a Tuf RX 9070 XT at Micro Center for $800. These prices are before Tax.

I second Jen-Hsun Huang. I just bought a 5070 TI for $2000. It was an absolute steal compared to anything AMDumpsterFire came out with! Actually being serious I did buy a 5070 TI but for $850. It was the best deal I could find for that performance level in my area. I know I'm in the minority of people who wants really good raytracing performance because the games I play/want to play have really good raytracing implementations and I find them to look stunning, so I bought GeForce instead of Radeon Funnily enough I've found it to be more stable than my old 3060 TI, which didn't have almost any issues to begin with. I'm very happy I'm in the minority of people without stability issues

Found a "good deal" on a 7800x3D/4080 Super custom build after my laptop died... Feels weird to be so excited about finding last generation parts at MSRP, but I guess that's the world we live in now. When does your crystal ball say 16GB should start feeling tight for VRAM? Do you think a 4080 Super will feel the squeeze on VRAM or raw performance first?

I paid ~700€ for a 3060 12gb in late 2021. But due to creative "rebates" spent only ~280€.

Quite frankly this podcast/ channel influenced my purchases more than any other. I got the 6800 when it first hit $360 in 2023, and then went over my "hard limit" to get an msrp 9070 because the $400-$450 card i was planning to get was going to end up costing at least the same $550 anyway. Both purchases made based on information here. What cards are servicing the 350 to 500 range? 5060Ti that should be $430 are over 500 the 4070 and 5070 never hit below 500 (where they should be) the 4060Ti, 7700XT and 7800XT are gone. Are the 9060XT and posdible 9070GRE going to stay below $500?

In a poll with a few hundred Nintendo fans voting during a livestream, 1/4 of people couldn't pre-order the Switch 2 (myself included) and it was mentioned online pre-orders ran out after about a minute. In Japan, Nintendo apologized as they received an unprecedented amount of pre-orders on their official website alone (2.2 million on the official website in less time than the original Switch sold 170 thousand across all Japanese retail). Is this all from scalping, or what is driving up such crazy demand?

On Amazon, I had seen a MicroSD Express card jump to more than double price for a day or two before dropping down most of the way again, all while having none in stock. Would this be from fear of tariffs?

Hello Tom and Dan. After spending the first week of 9070 series availability trying to buy one with no luck, I bought a 9070 xt Newegg bundle deal with a power supply for $780. I was able to sell the psu for $70 for a total of $710 spent. While I don’t like spending more than msrp on any product, looking at the way prices have risen have made it much easier to swallow.

I"ll a answer a different way since i avoid buying in the beginning of the cycles. 6900 xt was around 2023 550 using a discount code. We still use it. b580 250. 4090 1550 new cash during the beginning of cycle 9070xt 720 for the power color reaper. all purchased from the big computer hardware retailer in usa. I'm happy with all of them to be honest I've not had issues with any. I use them quite a lot. The 4090 has been useful for inference. I hardly game on it's mostly used for productivity. the 9070 xt we game on; I game on linux (really that's all i use even for productivity/work)-- linux on the amd platform is better than Nvidia in my experience on linux as nvidia's drivers get broken from time to time. b580 is a kitchen computer it's fine for gaming no crashes or anything the price is what i was looking for paired wtih a 5900x. 6900xt is in my daughters computer. It probably gets the most use now. I'll get a 5090 if they ever get reasonable. I use it for work/productivity. Nvidia is good for that IMO. Just a week ago i saw a 9070 (not xt for 679 on amazon). Seems like the card i'd have bought if i needed one for gaming. Amd is the way to go right now for sure if you aren't doing AI. All of these gpus including the intel one play anygame I want to play fine. I can't tell my difference for gaming between any of them. (i game on 2k monitors). its good enough for me.

Hi Tom and Dan, I got a 9070XT on launch day at Micro Center for $600 along with hundreds of other people. Now my old 6800XT is apparently worth about $400 used on eBay which seems reasonable compared to Nvidia's cheapest 16GB offering at $1000 street price or a 9070 XT scalped at $900. If I needed a card today I would just buy a used 6800XT and hope for better times.

I recently purchased a used 6800 XT for $380 to replace the 5700 XT in my living room PC instead of waiting for a 9070 XT to reach MSRP. I doubled my vram and nearly doubled my performance, and can actually output 4k 120hz over HDMI.

I found a ASUS Prime 5070 ti 16bg for $790 totaling $900 after tax & shipping on CDW but it's backordered & there is no estimated ship date. I don't urgently need a GPU as I'm doing okay with an EVGA 1080. My question is, should I keep shopping or just wait? If i did keep shopping what price for a 9070 xt or 7900 XTX would you say cancel the 5070 ti & go for AMD?

This constant running out reminds me of the song Running Out by Scissor Sisters...

It's worth reiterating Tom and Dan's general advice here. Don't try to time the market. If there is a good deal and you are thinking about upgrading, just pull the trigger. Things have been getting worse for a long time and watchers of this channel have no excuse to still be gaming on a 1080 AND lamenting the state of the market. I have been enjoying a $730 7900xt for around 20 months before the release of the 5000 and 9000 series cards. Don't gamble on Jensen's good will next generation, grab a 9070xt if you see that price hit $750 or less regardless of how much you FEEL it should cost

Dark Side of the Force

My tech shopping tip is to heed the warning, look far and wide, and be decisive. When MSRP stocks last only hours to minutes, there is no time to be indecisive. And prior to doing anything, scoping your "immediately buy" zone, as in what cards and for what price is acceptable for you. Used cards on Ebay/ Facebook Marketplace is also worth considering. Deals might not be frequent but you could likely buy it under market price when such deals comes up.

Dont know if Im late to the party or not. Keep doing what you are doing. I sold my GTX 1080 a few months after RDNA2 came out for 550 and then stocked the AMD website trying to get a GPU. I followed restock livestreams and discord servers that had scripts running polling websites like AMD/amazon/newegg/bestbuy/other retailers. I eventually just followed the AMD restock bot and got the drop narrowed down to a 2~3 hour window every week. Then I used a script browser plugin that enabled me to add a GPU to Cart in the few minutes after the inventory dropped but before the website updated to allow that function. Sometimes the drops were for other GPUs or I wasnt quick enough on the draw, but after doing this for about 2 months I was able to purchase an RX 6800XT at MSRP. Still rocking this now. At this point Im going to wait for the next GPU cycle... Not near a microcenter, but I did end up buying a 9600X with a B850 MB and 32 GB of ram + cooler for 600$ in the last 2 weeks. Not really a stellar deal, but I got a really good MB (MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX for 230$) and it should improve my 1% lows from my 3900X. Waiting on ZEN6X3D :thumbs_up For anyone else not near a Microcenter, the 9600X is 185$ on Amazon, and there is a Gigabyte B850m MB for 175$ with free 32GB RAM on Newegg. Total price $360

I passed, I snagged a 7900xtx for $925 then a 9070xt for $750. These cards are tied, got the second then moved my 7900xtx to a linux box I built. I thought about the 6900xt but took a pass, lived with the pain of a 2070 Super for a very long time and held my nose.

In March 2021 I was able to get an RX 6900 XT for MSRP from AMD during one of the weekly drops. Was aiming for a 6800 XT but those were gone too fast. Had to order it to an acquaintance in the US since AMD did not directly sell in my country. I had her sending it to me as "used hardware" with a low declared value to avoid paying import tax. In Europe, if you buy from another country you don't have to pay their VAT, but on import your own countries tax. I sold my Radeon VII I paid for 600$ a year earlier for 1400$ which got me the 6900 XT + Water block + shipping costs.

I was one of those lucky people that managed to trade my 5700XT for a 6800 during the mining boom when the 5700XT was the better mining GPU. I had initially bought the 5700XT before NVIDIAs 3000 and AMDs 6000 series had been released. I didn't plan out anything but I made my own luck and took opportunities while they were there.

UNDERDRAKER

Got my 9070XT for MSRP. by far the best graphics card I’ve ever owned. I am over Nvidia and their attempts to screw over the consumer.
