Broken Silicon's next guest will be The Phawx once again! As expected we will heavily discuss Strix Halo (which he's also extensively tested), Xbox Ally X, Panther Lake, Zen 6, and PS6 - but frankly he can talk about anything you'd normally want him to!You have ~24 hours to submit, and be as concise as possible as always! :)Last Episode The Phawx was on: https://youtu.be/5tah4ALPgOk

Hey Cary and Tom, with the release of the ROG Xbox Ally X and the rumored Sony handheld, along with all the standard AIBs releasing a handheld, at what point do you guys think Nintendo releases a PC launcher? Emulation on handhelds is pretty blatant, and as Gabe Newell said, “Piracy is a service problem.”

Good Day Tom and The Phawx, Ich have pre-ordered the ROG XBOX Ally X here in Germany as it costs 899€ including tax. It is the cheapest Z2 extreme Handhelad here and im very excited to when i can test with it. I have great hopes for the new Windows Gaming OS and hope it will be possible to play that way on a 50/50 RAM split so 12 gigs for VRam and 12 Gigs for System RAM. Will previous ROG Ally X guides translate to the XBOX Version? Thanks alot.

Are people being a little to overly enthusiastic about this Intel-Nvidia partnership? I'm seeing people sound off in the DigitalFoundry comments talking about how Intel and Nvidia will bring them "Strix Halo killers for the price of a Steam Deck". I feel like people are expecting more out of this than what we'll actually get.

transpose1195

What are your thoughts on handheld PC pricing? Valve just dropped the price of the base model Steam Deck by 20%, while all other manufacturers seem to be pushing prices higher with every release. Yes the Steam Deck hardware is a bit old, but I have plenty of older games in my backlog that should run fine. The incremental performance improvement in newer devices just doesn't seem worth the price.

Hardware unboxed on their last podcast said that APUs are non viable for desktop gaming?

Matthew Cassells

Microsoft is once again asking developers to optimize for this handheld without shipping any test units or dev kits. Why do companies treat developers so poorly. We are having the same difficulty with switch 2.

The Xbox Ally uses its NPU for Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR). Do you see this NPU use rolling out to other Ryzen AI APU’s in the future and are there any other graphical workloads from games that could be offloaded to NPU’s in the future, as they continue to increase in performance?

I continue to say strix Halo is the most disappointing product in recent memory. Apart from being in more than 1 laptop within 9 months of unveiling (segmentation is terrible, GPU is underpowered vs the competition and it seems to be in more overpriced mini PCs than anything else), what should Medusa Halo look like to succeed where strix Halo fell short?

AnotherChris

Hello Tom, you mentioned there will be some remasters this gen, will they finally bring Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls to PC?

Trevor Renfro

Is there an easy way to identify the Halo products instead of having to look thoroughly at the specifications?

FireDarkness39

Lunar lake seems purpose-built for handhelds, with almost unlimited constraints - expensive packaging, modern nodes, 4+4 cores, high graphical output, but has seemingly failed to enter the handheld market. Why do you think that it didn't make a bigger impact, and what architectural changes would you like to see in new revisions of handheld APUs in general?

Lucas

Hi guys, what’s the likelihood of a Panther Lake handheld in your opinion? On paper it sounds pretty good, good enough if RDNA 2 is still found in $600 devices anyway. Driver support is what killed it last time round, do you think anybody will take the chance of giving Intel another shot here?

Manuel Nascimento

Hello Tom and The Phawx, The Strix Halo handhelds and mini-PCs have shown great performance, but the prices are still too high, even if we're seeing like 1500 USD/EUR for these. What elements could be cut from the APU and other components to give the most bang for buck configuration for handhelds and mini-PCs? Do we need so many CPU cores and an NPU? In other words: how would you design the next Steam Deck and Steam machine and what price points would those models be? Cheers and keep up the awesome work!

Hello Tom and Phawx, for one reason or another people tend to focus on high fidelity, often single player story mode games when discussing the gaming performance of Strix Halo. Something I have not seen discussed as much is the performance in competitive titles, which are very popular nowadays, especially among budget gamers. From the limited examples I’ve seen so far, this seems to be its weak point in gaming, with performance often only being slightly better than Strix Point. Do you think any changes to AMD’s design philosophy for Medusa or even more broadly, any upcoming APU designs are going to address this market segment?

0xAutumn

Hello Tom and Phawx, why do you think we have not seen more AI Max 385 products? Are AMD’s yields really that good? And do you think there is a market for products that fall within the gap between Strix Halo and Strix Point?

PenguinfromNKVD

Hello Tom and Phawx, as Strix Halo uses different version of Zen 5 ccd's with new die-to-die connection (reported by Tom and shown in last High Yield video) how does it affect cpu and overall performance compared to standard Zen 5? Also as it's probably one of the reasons for Strix Halo higher price, where could AMD reuse this new chiplets? First time writing and thank you for your content

KarbinCry

Hi y'all. Do you have any opinions on ARM handhelds? Are there some using Linux and possibly capable of more than mobile and emulator gaming?

KarbinCry

Hi y'all. I really enjoy The Phawx's testing across power levels. But it could be better - would it be possible to normalise it for total power, ideally measured externally (remove battery and read out power from the charging cable)? In some ways, how Intel and AMD report power is a bit different, this total power testing could remove that uncertainty.

KarbinCry

Hi y'all. How much better would GPD WIN 5 be if the battery packs were truly hot swappable? A more substantive question - GPD advertises Bazzite on WIN 5. Have you tested that yet, if so, how does the Linux experience compare to Windows one?

KarbinCry

Why do you think Microsoft did a Nintendo and chose Van Gogh to power Ally non-X?

Dark Side of the Force

To be fair they probably expect you to treat it as PC handheld since clearly it's not a console.

EXTENDIFY

is the new interconnect for zen6 expected to be one of the major performance boost? and also with it changing fclk speeds drastically?

Dark Side of the Force

Are HB-DIMMS patent by AMD recently are evident that they are trying some creative ways to increase bandwidth for their APU?

Ketafuki

I threw in a supachat on this one on the livestream and Tom kind of pointed out how pointless patent discussions can be. Looked it up a little further and the HB-DIMM patent might actually be a moot point, as it's already included in the MRDIMM spec, which is already on sale in the enterprise market.

Ketafuki

Has anyone done AI comparisons with Strix Halo and M4 Pro/Max? LLMs, diffusion, etc?

Chris Rijk

Since the last conversation, Strix Halo has become a real product and you have both used it. How has it worked out compared to expectations? What model would you recommend to gamers, if any? What do you think should be the focus for the next-generation (Medusa Halo) from a gaming perspective?

Chris Rijk

Intel/Nvidia products for consumers are several years away but let’s say they rushed out just one product in 2026 - what sort of product would you like to see them do? Just for fun, how about a competitor to the Switch 2?

Chris Rijk

Imagine it’s 2030 and you want to buy a new laptop for gaming. Would you expect to be choosing between an AMD APU and an Intel/Nvidia APU or do you think a more traditional CPU and dGPU combo would still be viable? What about if you were buying a standard desktop PC (not a mini PC)?

Prior is the theme 999

If strix halo is the zen 1 for apu’s what do you think AMD will need to do for its successor to be a zen 2 moment?

Mr. Nobody

Under what conditions would you expect to see AMD releasing APUs directly competing with PlayStation consoles (price/performance/features)?
