This week there's been a lot of discussion regarding "where leaks come from", "what causes info to change", and "what got people into following MLID". And so...why don't we talk about it?

Ask Me (Tom) Anything! Where do leaks typically come from? What are some hard judgement calls that have had to be made regarding if something should be public or not? What do we here at MLID consider unethical behavior by other "journalists"? Any questions like this or anything regarding leaking and what built MLID are fair game!

Also, Dan will join Tom this episode, and thus he can probably give us an interesting third party perspective on what he saw from Tom during exciting or stressful leak cycles. Feel free to ask DAN things from HIS perspective...

Aside from that Sony dmca a while back, has there ever been any official communication from one of the big vendors to limit your activites, or guests that didn't come on because they feared repercussions? I know they don't have much of a leg to stand on for a lawsuit against you specifically, but with how controlling Nvidia in particular can be, I'm suprised it doesn't come up more often.

What usually drives someone to leak internal information from their company? Is it frustration, wanting to see their work recognized, or something deeper?

Mark Smith

Thank you to all who are brave enough to trust Tom with such valuable information. It always makes for good conversation and interesting to see how much of it comes to fruition.

Very interesting are leaks from Intel. It shows that Intel is optimistic and then they realize they ducked up their plans again. I am very interested in how Panther Lake will turn out.

KarbinCry

Tom, why do leaks always come around midnight CET? Why do leakers have such low regard for the sleep schedules of your Europe based team members?

KarbinCry

Are you afraid your evil twin (Dom, by using same pattern as Mario to Wario) comes one day to leak your leakers?

coltmarshmallow

Are the individuals giving you the information generally exclusive to you Tom as far as you know or are also sharing with others? Does that impact your relationship with them or how you present this in your content?

AngelOfCake

Tom, give us the skinny on KarbinCry. He's a bit too knowledgeable, Is he really just someone who helps out or is he secretly an engineer at nvidia? Is that really Jensen Weng who writes in? Do they play D&D on the weekends in Jensen's basement? Which edition do they play?

TechnoLadz

Actually; wouldn't it be Lom, since L is closer to an upside down T than D is?

TechnoLadz

Sometimes even worse. I've seen them come out closer to 4am CET more recently

TechnoLadz

Dan, which leaks were your favourite; and how would you say the RDNA 3 leaks affected Tom's and yours mental health; from the performance being missed, to some dies never releasing; like that early leak of "Navi 33" essentially being a monolithic Navi 32.

KarbinCry

It is by distance between letters. There is same number of letters between T and D as there is between M and W. Also, I like that it went to D - with Dom, we can now imagine MLID as a part of the Fast & Furious cinematic universe, where Tom is I guess the devious villain set in destroying "the family".

KarbinCry

I mean, when Tom brings them to us (me, Kari, Dan) for consultation :)

ThatRenegade

Tom, On average how early do you hear about things before reporting on them?

Cleansweep

Now that you've got a few years of leaks under your belt, do you think you've spotted any of the techniques Intel/AMD/Nvidia/Sony are using to suss out leakers, beyond the obvious "give two people slightly different versions of the same doc" trick?

Fions

How much do you worry about your podcast guests getting connected to your leaks? Have your guests worried about that? Did you ever have to pass on potential guests because they could be plausibly (but falsely) accused of leaking to you?

Hi Tom, When you were just starting out as a Youtuber, was there anything different that you did to cultivate your sources than how you operate now? If so, how have things changed for you? Was this more as a circumstance of being more experienced, being a bigger channel and reputation, or something else? Thanks to both Tom and Dan. Keep up the great work!

Planet 9

Hi Tom, What would you say are the common motivations for your sources to take the risk of providing you insider information?

Planet 9

To clarify: I believe that you’ve shown yourself to care about your sources and protect them as well as careing about accuracy. So, why leak to you over other leakers seems clear. But as I’m writing this question I’m more thinking of why leak at all.

AnotherChris

It is my advice to not give away sources. Need to know only.
