How long do you think AMD has before Intel gets competitive again and its weight (amount of employees, historical reputation) starts pushing AMD to the sidelines again?

KingHarkinian

Thoughts on the millions of Steam Deck clones that Phoenix/Z1/Z1 Extreme have spawned on the market in just 6 months?

KingHarkinian

Sapphire Rapids seems to have a fair amount of popularity due to its AI accelerator. Do you think AI oriented CPUs will take off and largely displace GPUs, at least for inference?

Shadhahvar

I saw Tim on Hardware unboxed doing a video about how dx12 introduced a technology that's ACTUALLY creating a generational rift in graphics cards: mesh shaders. Ray tracing has just been blind sided in the race to race to most relevant new gpu features. Do you think this will keep happening with mesh shaders? Are there other emerging technologies that are going to lap ray tracing in this race?

QuickJumper

Tom you mentioned that Intel has razor thin margins on raptor lake. Can you expand on that? Is it like 1-2% or more? What will they do once ZEN5 hits the market? Will they sell it at loss? What are their options?

What are your impressions on how RDNA 4 is shaping up? Should AMD reconsider it's plans, or do you think the upcoming SUPER series will be enough to affect Radeon? Could AMD maybe reconsider a refresh as well, or do you think an affirmative price drop be enough to keep the 7900 series and the 7800XT competitive?

FloridaMan

Hi Tom and Leo, so many CPU multithreaded benchmarks focus on visual rendering, which has largely been taken over by the GPU. What fields and applications do you think would better represent workloads that people actually use CPUs for?

FloridaMan

Based on architecture reports for Zen 5, should we be expecting much in the way of increased gaming performance? Or put another way, will the 7800x3d be better than Zen 5 non x3d in more games than the 5800x3d was over Zen 4 non x3d?

Cleansweep

Hey Tom and Leo, I feel like the DX12 Ultimate mesh shader issue is going to take the same trajectory as VRAM capacity did this year, where it wasn't a point of focus because it was confined to one or two games, but a few months later, it became a trend that no one could deny. How likely is it that AMD handles RDNA 4 aggressively to take advantage of mesh shaders incentivizing gamers to jump to new generations of GPUs?

FloridaMan

Leo, you shared you saw very large power draw with Sapphire Rapids CPUs. With power costs in Europe, do you see future Intel server chips limiting any chance of server market growth in that region?

Prior is the theme 999

Hello Tom and Guest, relating to Toms recent video. How effective do you think nvidia’s super move will be? We are a year in the generation at this point I would think anyone who has a $1000 to drop on a graphics card has already bought one? Who will be rushing to buy 4090’s at this time before their price in increased? How many people are still waiting for a new $1200 better performing 4080 replacement?

Travis Gooding

Hi guys, always happy to tune in to these types of discussions! How far off are we from seeing a high end ARM console?. Not a Switch 2 per se but a truly next generational leap in RISC processing for a dedicated gaming device. E.G like a PS6 or an unknown competitor entering the market in the future. Having seen the Apple custom Rosetta layer in action with the M1/M2 chips, x86/64 applications running with incredible performance and in some instances BETTER than native OS. Will ARM/RISC likely be the next major landscape change in gaming or do you feel that for the foreseeable future, X86/64 CPUs have their claws in too deep for there to be a paradigm shift. Thanks for joining this Broken Silicon episode! *another question/topic if time permits* On the Hoeg law podcast you talked about Acquisitions and (iirc) Sony not needing to acquire anyone. I believe one major aspect of the future of the game industry is ownership of IP more so than developers and studios. Recent CEO comments from Sony has stated as such(IP being core to sustainable growth). Cited Mario movie, Zelda TotK as examples of timeless IP that can last 20, 30, 50+ years. I heard Square-Enix was on the table as an acquisition for Sony and multiple “insiders” stated that the deal as of current has been put on ice. Then the spin-off of Sony Financials to raise money/Cash on Hand just makes me contemplate that not only is a major (Sony as a whole, not just PS) acquisition is coming and it’s likely going to be bigger than just a videogame publisher. A large acquisition target for Sony IMHO would be one that would leverage IP for Television, Movies, Videogames, and merchandising. The key being IP. Sony gunning for Take2/EA would infer just as much of a fanboy war on twitter and FTC/EU investigation Electric Boogaloo part 2 as PlayStation focused. If they know any major acquisition will likely lead them to that regardless, swing for the fences, go for WB. Zaslav hates scripted media and has really positioned WB as a whole with a clean slate. New leadership, new DCEU, MAX platform with no HBO nomenclature and now HEAVILY filled with Discovery shows and reality TV with channel broadcasting mixed in now. Fresh start with the LoTR movies and just recently put on ICE fantastic beasts. Still sitting on close to $50B in debt and their stock has been in steady decline for awhile now and as of late is sub $10. Net cap of $23B with twice their valuation in debt. I see the current slate, and condition of WB/Discovery as the prime opportunity to strike while the iron is hot. *what would your guys opinion be on the subject or do you feel in the inevitable aspect of acquisitions, would be the next logical step for Sony as a whole to go for.

10GHz Netburst

On the KitGuru YouTube channel, you guys review a wide variety of hardware, how do you go about narrowing down the choices of what exactly gets a video and what doesn't?

10GHz Netburst

Very few "mainstream" reviewers ended up testing Intel's Sapphire Rapids Xeon W parts, in part due to nobody sampling them. How did you end up getting them and do you think they are worth covering as a reviewer?

10GHz Netburst

What are your thoughts on Xeon W now that they have had half a year or so on the market?

KingHarkinian

AMD's been making strides on server and desktop PCs, but seems to struggle with laptops. They've also failed to deliver the expected volume to several clients on time. Since the laptop market is huge, how impactful do you think their failure will be? What can they do to better themselves there?

Chris Rijk

Would you expect DLVR in Raptor Lake Refresh to be much more useful in laptops than desktops and help increase performance across the board?

Chris Rijk

Hi Tom, any idea if Nvidia plans to refresh their mobile GPUs as well?

Gwen Farron

Hiya Tom, howdy Leo. In the decade of your work, what would you say you got your hopes up for the most? Or, rather, what left you the most just sad and disappointed it didn't work out?

Dig Wiggler

Hey guys. Do you think AMD made a mistake in not making Rdna 3 monolithic? I can't help but think the packaging costs made up the difference in silicon costs. Was their an alternate world where a monolithic Rdna 3 could have match the 4090, just because it was a simpler design? Could Amd have charged even less than they are now and been even more price competitive? (Like the 6900xt matching the 3090).

Dig Wiggler

Do we know if its possible that Zen C cores can utilize 3d vcache? Could our dream 24 core Ryzen 8000 chip have? Or would this just not be as useful in the more productive or low power oriented tasks that Zen C cores are designed for?

Dig Wiggler

Do you think we will ever see a re-convergence of Amd's consumer and server gpu architecture's again? From what I understand, this is what Nvidia does, and what Amd used to do with GCN. Given that Zen is just a "diet" server chip, could we see Amd go back to one single gpu architecture, and give consumers a "diet" version?

10GHz Netburst

What are your thoughts on motherboard pricing for consumer/workstation parts? To me it feels like it's gone completely off the rails with how mainstream socket boards are going well over the $500 price point and Threadripper and Xeon W boards being well over $1000. It's getting so bad that I would be surprised if Epyc server boards aren't healthily undercutting the prices of TRX50 boards while at the same time offering far more connectivity, higher build quality, and support, which quite frankly is insane.

HauntedIce

Given the fact that AMD's Radeon Group has recently laid off their China division, how do you see this impacting the development of RDNA 4 and 5? Do you think this will delay the launch of RDNA 4?

FloridaMan

Leo, your team reviews a variety of tech components outside of CPUs and GPUs. What areas do you feel have seen lots of advancement in the last few years?

Chris Rijk

AMD are clearly done fine in DIY for CPUs but does the average member of the public even realise AMD exists and should AMD advertise more to raise awareness?

KingHarkinian

Matched the 4090 no, since it's a monster GPU that AMD just didn't want to make/sell. But focus on RT silicon or other features rather than spend dev time on chipletizing, absolutely yes.

Independent George

How much of the pricing differential between the US and UK/EU is driven by VAT and fx rates, versus the OEMs/distributors/retailers taking different cuts along the way? Have prices really been that far out of line between regions compared to historic norms?

Dig Wiggler

The 4090 is no bigger than the 3090 and AMD matched that. I bet they would've with a standard monothlithic chip given its simplicity compared to chiplets
