In around an hour Tom and Dan will be recording a Die Shrink discussing the Insomniac Hack...and we apologize for how short notice this is.  However, we actually already have some Reader Mails for it that we set aside, and the original plan wasn't to put out any telegrams...so anyways - don't hesitate, write in below immediately with your thoughts, comments, and musings on this event that we felt didn't have enough "hardware" connections to fit into a normal Broken Silicon after already kinda missing covering it over Christmas.

For those who don't know, the these are some of the notable tidbits from the leak:

Marvel’s Venom (2025)

New Ratchet and Clank

Marvel’s Wolverine (2026)

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 (2028)

Marvel’s X-Men (2030) (And more after that)

Spiderman 3 considered to be split into "Part 1" & "Part 2" Games due to a $555M budget.

Generally speaking the latest Sony games seem to be easily making profits...but from a %-wise perspective there is an argument that AAA games are not efficient investments.

Hi Tom and Dan, what do you think appropriate reporting for leaks like this in the future should entail? On the one hand, people want to know the details of what happened, but to accurately report on this, a journalist might have to look at the illegally stolen files. Is it even possible to report more than the top level details without having to look at the contents of what was leaked?

How would a split into parts work? Would it be something like Tell Tale Games? It must be viable if Sony is considering it and depending on the developer could work, but it can easily be a terrible if someone like activision did it. Imaging the unnecessary cliffhanger. Waiting for the continuation/next iteration of a story like uncharted 2-3 vs waiting to continue playing the next half of uncharted 3 after the cliffhanger of Nathan Drake dangling out the airplane x months/years ago seems insane to me.

I'm just burned out on Marvel content. And Spiderman. No desire to play any of these games except maybe Wolverine, sounds unique. How long can Sony pump out the same kinds of games before they flop?

Hey Tom and Dan, Let's set aside the obvious crime of doxxing all the employees of Insomniac. Aside from ruining the hype of some unannounced games, do you think we're better off for this leak? The video game industry has been pretty opaque in terms of the business side, and the leaked documents have provided a lot of context on the state of the industry.

I’m all for leaks and personally I think they are ok. But these leaks specifically were not ok, leaking personal data of any sort is for lack of a better word very disgusting, companies should know they will be hacked and personal info should be nowhere near any data people truly care about most of the time which is when the next game is coming out. I’m no expert so I could be completely wrong but something has to change since this seems like the frequency is only increasing.

Tom and Dan, my fav brothers. This is actually two questions/statements. I think this leak/hack purposely shows off how inefficient AAA gaming and development is. Yeah it's nice to have insane production values or the best graphics and what have you BUT their budgets are insane. It will not be sustainable without hefty units moved or DLC or microtransactions, or all 3. We're also seeing AAA no longer (and this has been an issue for a long time) taking big risks with gameplay and game design anymore. This is squarely onto Indies and AA to move this needle forward. Biggest issue is most people automatically go "oh my God the latest AC that's the same as the other 57 ACs!" Or insert any BF, COD or what have you and it's generally the same sentiment, and people are getting burned by this with the amount of skepticism towards AAA now. Very few studios warrant full price for their titles in the AAA space. Will more people look towards Indies and AA for fresh experiences? What are your thoughts?

What are you guys most excited for from Insomniac coming out? They're one of my top tier devs from Sony and I'd love that new Ratchet & Clank.

Not related to the Hack, but can you remember where you discussed game titles dynamically swapping out textures in the background without telling users to keep under the 8GB cap on Nvidia cards?

Do you guys think that a good 10-15hr AAA game could sell in the current market? How much would this save a game on budget? Or do you think the playtime of AAA games has been expanded because the budgets are out of control?

Hardware Unboxed had interesting proof of it in their 6800 16GB vs 3070 and A4000 testing videos I think.
