The next episode of Broken Silicon will be joined by Ancient Gameplays!  He runs a YT Channel that touches on basically everything this channel does when it comes to graphics - RADEON, Nvidia, ARC, and their competing features.  This is an episode that will be heavily steered by your submissions below, so please do not hesitate to ask us anything everything about ongoing GPU news and upcoming releases.  Just off the top of my (Tom's) head, I am sure we will discuss:

RADEON vs Nvidia Mindshare in 2024 (See attached Poll)

Nvidia's Original Lovelace Segmentation vs Now with SUPER - Is it fixed?

RTX 4070 SUPER, 4070 Ti SUPER, 4080 SUPER

AMD's RX 7900 XT Price Drop - Do they need to drop the XTX too?

RX 7600 XT 16GB

The state of AMD FSR vs Nvidia DLSS

Hopes for RDNA 4 & Blackwell

Intel ARC in 2024 and Beyond

And again, ask away at anything you want not listed above!  Just make sure you use are respectful, use good grammar, and are as concise as possible!  You have ~24 hours (Till Saturday Evening US Central Time) to submit, but as always it is helpful if you submit within the next 12 hours. :)

Howdy y'all, by the time this generations over which gpu company do you think will have had the best time when it comes to mind share in the diy space? I think nvidias done a lot to make people in this space irritated compared to amd this gen.

I own both team red Asus RX 6800OC and team green EVGA RTX 3700FTW. This GPU game is getting old. Nvidia doesn't respect its customers, the refresh is reactionary to Radeon and tech tubers don't even acknowledge it. Like any company they are profit driven but Nvidia didn't drop prices and sunset a few badly priced models, with new "super" cards. This generation Radeon had the value. I will buy a RX7900XTX at the right price when I upgrade my 12 core Zen 2 PC. Nvidia has zero to offer me at 850 so its team red for me.

Hi guys, are y'all up to date on frame gen mods. I've recently discovered a working version of a dlss3 to fsr3 mod. I find frame gen being in more games and the the fsr 2 to fsr 3 mod news much more exciting then anything right now. What do you guys think about frame gen being actually in games that don't suck?

Hello Tom and my go to AMD tech YouTuber. I’m pretty young, nearing my mid twenties and I’ve been in and out of pc gaming for the better part of a decade. Since my friends were always on console I tended to stay there. But what did I miss in my teen years to were AMD GPU’s are treated like they are poison in your pc rig? I can see that sentiment is changing especially in DIY but I find it so odd to see people proudly saying they’d rather buy a 4070 super NOT the ti super or even regular TI, the SUPER over the 7900xt’s near $700 price. Am I missing something or is nvidias mindshare that high or did AMD really mess up?

It looks like consumers for the most part are starting to say no to what nvidia is giving them. But what is going on with AIB’s? How are they handling the poor sales of the 4070 super and the chess match nvidia is having with who knows who on pricing, stock, and allocation. Tom, a long time ago you mentioned that you don’t think any more AIB’s will leave and that you had one in mind that you could see leaving. Has that changed or is it still the same. still holding on to the smallest sliver that EVGA reboots themselves under Intel or AMD.

Hello Friend! I wanted to get your perspective on the image quality of FSR and AFMF. I have been spending some of the past week comparing my recorded footage of FSR from a year ago to the latest driver. I have completed a similar analysis of AFMF as well. I have noticed that despite how it looked at first, it has come a long way. At 4K and 1440p I rarely ever see the graphical issues that existed at first. 1080p still needs work but it is better as well. Have you noticed the changes as well? Do you think Radeon are heading in the right direction with it? Cheers!

Do you think the 7900 GRE being sub €550 is a good sign for what is to come with RDNA 4? (Article I’m on about: https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-7900-gre-now-available-for-e540-in-europe-new-custom-model-spotted). Doesn’t this show that AMD can sell the 7900 XT for a profit even at sub $600. As it isn’t that much more cut down than the XT (80 vs 84, 16GB vs 20GB. Not a greater than $100 difference anyways - as without tax and in USD, the 7900 GRE is US$490.)

Why do you think AMD takes a good amount of time to respond to new software or just make their own? Eye finity is the only thing recently I can remember and it’s not that recent. Don’t get me wrong driver level fluid motion frames for dx11 and 12 is amazing. But that’s more so because in my opinion they know adoption for FSR would be abysmal if they hadn’t made it open to as many people as possible. DLSS 3.5 is the reason to buy Nvidia among many other things, when will AMD make a “this is a reason to buy AMD”. The only reason to buy AMD right now in my opinion is because nvidia is dropping the ball, not because they have a killer feature or anything else. Only because nvidia doesn’t want to give us more vram for the most part.

Fabio. Big fan of your content. Just wanted to know your thoughts on how you feel RDNA 4 will stack up against Blackwell? Do you think AMD has earned some good faith in gamers from RDNA 1-3?

CompressedAIBlocks

Tom and Fabio, we've presumably seen the entire product stacks from both RDNA 3 and Lovelafe. In your opinions, which card do you think is in the strongest position and which card is in the weakest/could use improvement for both RDNA 3 and Lovelace?

CompressedAIBlocks

Guys, where do you think Arc will stack up in best case and worst case if we get Battlemage this year? We've gotten quite a bit of improvements for Alchemist but it's still relatively underwhelming. Do you think this will continue with Battlemage or will Intel try to fix Alchemist shortcomings?

CompressedAIBlocks

I see some people online saying the 7600 XT will be the new RX480/580. Do you guys really think this is true? It's only with hindsight that we can see the value in cards like that.

CompressedAIBlocks

Hey guys, not really related to the subjects above but I just wanted to know what is your favourite type of content/videos to make?

Paul Hope

Semi analyst Stacey Ragson, Bernstein Group predicts AMD’s gaming sector will be down 20% in the 4th quarter (CNBC Fast Money 1/19). Do you have any comments or thoughts? Do you think his assuming if NVDA is down AMD will be too?

Christian Visconti

Hi Tom. Ciao Fabio. Skipping the hardware side and focusing in the software side only (FSR, DLSS, ULMB, AFMF, Xss frame gen etc etc). In which company you put more faith into: -creating new technology -innovating existing systems -find new use of this tech beside games What are your thoughts on what we can do with ai acceleration that is useful for humanity?

Areani Aleanor

Hello Tom, I am conscious this has nothing to do with this Broken Silicon, but I just wanted to know your thoughts on Samsung's New QD-OLED? A while back you spoke about your current monitor having excellent color accuracy and being enough for what to do, and would only change it if a new 4k OLED with excellent color accuracy reached the market, and to me it sounds like your wish was granted earlier than expected! Will you upgrade to it?

Hififorlife

Hi Tom, Early reports of Exynos 2400 point to Samsung lpp 4+ process turning out quite well. Would you have anything to say about it or the Xlipse 940 rdna3 gpu with-in the chip.

QuickJumper

I think in 2023 we almost returned to the "good old" times when GPU's were getting cheaper and Nvidia/AMD have to be careful to not overprice their GPU's. What do you think about 2024. With RDNA4 and Blackwell coming at the end of the year do you think the same trend will continue? Will AMD and Nvidia have to be more aggressive in their features and pricing from the start or do they have some room to speculate? Also do you think Nvidia is confident in launching 5090 at 1600 or will they consider higher/lower price?

QuickJumper

Do you think 7600XT is a new 480? Considering inflation it's almost the same price. 480 would cost almost 300 in 2024 and 7600xt is 329. It seems that AMD decided to target this specific segment again. Also do you think they could have the same success with it as they had with 480 and 580?

Arknia08

I personally think both Nvidia and AMD's reputation have taken a hit. Though AMD hit a slight bump in the road with the launch of RDN3 and have since largely recovered, Nvidia seems to have driven themselves into a ditch. I know a few people who were very exited for Ada Super, but the second 4070 Super reviews came out were like: "Nope, I'm getting a 7800XT."

Cleansweep

Hello Fabio! First of all, thanks for all the in-depth AMD and Intel driver testing. It's great to see someone making content that helps combat the "AMD drivers bad" mind virus. One of the first videos I saw on r/AMD from your channel was one of your modded Radeon driver showcases. How did you find out about these? It seems like the communities that know about them don't like to spread the word on the more mainstream sites for whatever reason.

shea

how well is DirectStorage gaining traction with developers? Given how overkill cpus are these days for gpu limited gamers, can we still see PS5 like load times with cpu decompression instead of gpu decompression?

Chris Rijk

Given the poor initial sales from all of the 40 series except the 4090, should we be surprised that the 4070 Super has gotten off to a poor start? Like with the original 4070, would you expect sales to pick up over time?

Chris Rijk

Let’s say for the sake of example that the 4070 Ti Super has good initial sales - would you take that as evidence that the original had too little VRAM for its price point? Do you think the 5070 cards could fail if they come at a similar price and with 12GB of VRAM?

Chris Rijk

In the last year or so, some have suggested using the cheap 16GB Arc cards for things like video editing or AI. Would you expect the 16GB 7600 XT to wipe out that little niche? In more general terms, what types of use cases would you recommend the 7600 XT for?

Chris Rijk

Do you think it would be better if AMD is planning for Navi 44 to be a replacement for Navi 33 or for AMD to keep selling Navi 33 for years and for the Navi 44 cards to sit above them? Either way, do you think Navi 44 should come with a 192-bit bus?

Chris Rijk

Should AMD and Intel collaborate together on upscaling technologies or is it better for the best technology to win by itself?

Chris Rijk

What comes to mind when you think of “benchmarking”? Have you seen some particularly bad usage of benchmarks by companies recently? What do you consider the most common mistakes reviews make when using benchmarks? What would your advice be to consumers regarding interpreting benchmarks?

TechnoLadz

Will Blackwell be more closer to Maxwell or Pascal in terms of uplift? (IE: 30% uplift across the board but lower prices and TDPs, or 60% uplift across the board but the same or higher prices and TDPs) Which prior generation would you compare Ada to the most?

AnotherChris

Hi guys, my hope for RDNA_4 is also that it brings the 7900xtx performance to $500 in the form of the 8800xt. My question is , could they have a pattern of major gains in one generation and bring the price down in the next for a while?

Manordown

Tom and Fabio what will it take for amd and intel to gain parade with nvidias mindshare in graphics? Can battlemage achieve this with low end and rdna4 with just midrange gpus?

Shadhahvar

With only so many node shrinks left, what should the GPU manufacturers do to give people substantial reason to buy their products at the same frequency we used to buy them? And if it is different than what you think they'll do, what do you think they'll end up doing instead?
