Broken Silicon's next guest will see us joined by Vex!  He is a Techtuber that talks about all of the typical subjects we usually do on this channel...so yeah - this one will HEAVILY depend on what YOU want us to discuss!!!  Anything from RDNA 3, to Lovelace, to consoles, to next gen products is fair game!

You have ~36 hours (Sunday Morning US Central Time) to submit below! Just be respectful, concise, and use good grammar to be considered!

Hi Tom and Vex, this is technically a repost from the previous Loose Ends, but I was kinda... Well, just flat out late and I keep forgetting to ask this question. Currently, RDNA uses Rasterizatior cores that can do raytracing, saving space on the silicon, and Nvidia has more distinct raytracing, and rasterization cores and thus take more space on the silicon. So my question is, when do you think we will see raytracing cores, that can also do rasterization? Because I genuinely don't know what we could get out of more rasterization performance even now, so a reversal of Radeon's architecture would be most logical in my mind.

Hey guys, I believe a contributing factor to rdna 4 top die because they do not provide equivalent "premium features". Dlss, Frame gen, and ray reconstruction, are far from perfect. Amd's chasing chasing these features is just AMD contributing to Nvidia's market dominance. Do you think they will take this time to make their own headline grabbing and interesting features; instead of copying nvidia and gaining good will from people who won't buy their cards. ps- I have messed up so many messages you have read i put this one though two word processors to check it! ty for your patience!

Hi Tom and Vex! Tom, you mentioned Nvidia using the 12vh power connector to offload problems to other parties for a small increase in profitability and it reminds me of AMD switching to a similar CPU pin design as Intel with AM5. They offload the biggest RMA problem, bent pins, to motherboard manufacturers. Is this a leading indicator of market dominance, or at least parity, and could you see Intel being forced to "subsidize" motherboard manufacturers by putting the pins on the CPUs like AMD used to?

I'm hearing conflicting info on Zen5 IPC (and clock) bumps and I can't really decide where should I go with my 12600k Alder Lake build, will there be enough fight left in the platform to compete decently against it (or Arrow Lake). With the 'Fill the Fabs' approach, I believe there will an incentive for Intel 10nm/Intel7 node to keep offering minor library improvements, which could allow for another meaningful refresh if the product teams want that. Even if there won't be any, current Rapter Lake refresh could become dirt cheap and long-lasting by today's standards, similarly to AM4. What are your thoughts?

A german retailer recently listed the 7900XT for 649EUR (inc. taxes), which I would have jumped if it wasn't right before payday! Do you think this is a one-off fluke or there is room for the 7900xt to dip below the 700-mark more consistently? How far out are we from the RX8800(?) launch? Can you refresh my memory how much RAM that s.cker will come with?

Hello Tom and Vex, it’s cool to see vex finally become well known. The algorithm presented him to me when he just started out and it’s not just his growth that’s interesting. There seems to be a lot of growth with tech channel’s lately, Daniel Owen, high yield, ancient gameplays, or even here with MLID. What do you think is driving it? I don’t remember there being this many channels even three to four years ago.

Why do you think AMD never "goes for the jugular" in the GPU market?

10GHz Netburst

What do you think are the least polished parts of each of the Nvidia and AMD GPU experiences?

10GHz Netburst

Do you think other GPUs could follow the same trend as the GRE, using a less aggressive power and clock envelope, sticking to cheaper bin memory, cheaper coolers, cheaper boards and packaging? Do you think NV and AMD may realise that pushing every die to the power wall may not be the best way to segment their product lines, or do you think that the AI hardware demand will put a premium on die area and force them to squeeze the maximum performance out of each die?

10GHz Netburst

Why do you think AMD loves to hobble the overclocking on their GPUs through slider limits?

10GHz Netburst

What do you think the impact is of people being burned out on games or feeling that there are not many new games worth playing, or the opposite, people being excited about many new games, on GPU sales? Where would you say we are at now in terms of games driving or slowing down GPU sales?

A little over half a year ago Vex made a video where he switched to a 6800xt. At the time I found it pretty cool considering I switched to the xtx within a month of his video and because I was noticing that reviewers had no problem saying something but not putting their money where their mouth is, so actually seeing someone online do that was a breath of fresh air to say the least. Curious what the definitive reason for the switch at the time was Vex?

I've been feeling that many games recently look really smudgy, ghosty, or have a lot of artifacts, particularly in movement and for the most part I think that comes from the use of TAA or other temporal AA/upscaling such as DLSS and FSR. Recently, Hardware Unboxed discussed on their podcast that some games with older MSAA actually look far more sharp and than many modern games. Do you think temporal AA/upscaling is causing visuals in games to move backwards, smudging otherwise high quality textures and masking complex geometry and specular effects? Do you think it's worth the tradeoff of being able to spend more effort on higher quality lighting?

Chris Ryan

If Intel actually supports (warranties) delidding of the 14900KS, do you think that AMD would ever do that for a product, or would AMD never need to do that since theirs CPU's are so efficient?

Woody Chang

Hi Tom and Vex, With AAA game development having astronomical budgets and lengthy timelines, many people (including on this channel) have talked about the need for bigger studios to work on more smaller AA releases to fill the void. Are you guys hearing larger game devs considering this approach or is it that they are letting the indie devs fill the niche for smaller experiences?

Woody Chang

What, if any, changes in the gaming industry do you anticipate as a result of the ongoing layoffs? I can think of some possible consequences, such as an increase in indie devs or larger studios taking less risks with more sequels, but are there consequences that you see that people aren't talking about?

KarbinCry

AMD reuses TMUs, not ROPs. And those TMUs have some added stuff to do the job.

The 4080 was launched in November 2022 and had terrible sales from the beginning. A normal company would have responded quickly but the Super was launched 14 months later. Based on that, are Nvidia fans being far too optimistic that competition from AMD will force prices lower?

Chris Rijk

Suppose that with the PS5 Pro that Sony provides an option to run any game with frame generation and together with faster hardware that means any game that would normally run at 30 fps on the PS5 could now run at 120 fps. How receptive to this do you think consumers would be? How well do you think the PS5 Pro would have to sell for it to significantly affect how games developers target frame rates?

Chris Rijk

I’ve looked through various discussions on actually using frame generation in games and opinion feels quite mixed. I couldn’t find anyone saying that they had bought a Lovelace card to have the feature either. However, with 4K 240Hz monitors set to become commonplace this year, would you expect this to help increase actual usage of frame generation? (The idea being that using frame generation on a 120 fps base input would probably have fewer downsides compared to lower frame rates)
