The first wave of EELs had been decimated, though the Silver Spears had fared little better. The battle was soon to enter its second phase as the second waves on both sides used their luckless, chummed comrades as cover to keep from joining them as a listless floating corpse.

Riley was finished, the last wisps of breath escaping her lungs in a pitiful trickle of bubbles that quickly ended and she became like the others. They twisted and moved gently in the currents which swirled around them, buoyed for now but doomed to sink to the ocean floor before long.

The fight would move past them, and they would be forgotten...
