Haven't listened to the episode yet, super looking forward to it. Just wanted to correct the record from Monday's episode: this movie is available on YouTube. Not the best quality, but I watched it on Sunday in anticipation of this episode! ❤️

Coincidentally, I'm currently reading Oscar Wars and am about halfway through the chapter on the 1970s. I'm excited for this series!

Gia Gunn voice: “My God, there’s Something for Everyone (1970), let’s just say that”

Looking forward to the Something for Everyone episode - I watched the movie on YouTube as well, and I am now obsessed with the outfit that Michael York puts on every chance he gets. Does anyone else think we need to bring back pleated, belted, and cuffed khaki shorts with knee socks and loafers?

So I ran to Youtube to watch this after the episode dropped and my god, this truly is a treatise on why you can’t trust twinks or Disney gays obsessed with fairy tales. VERY QUOTABLE MOVIE!!

So there are now exactly 2 copies of the Something for Everyone blu-ray left on Amazon. Down from 9 last Thursday. C'mon, Garys! Let's corner the market!

Totally clocked Time to Pretend as well, yet the mild Saltburn defender (and pedant) in me is compelled to point out needledropping Uncle ACE during the college section of Challengers is way more egregious timeline wise. But we don't care because it's a much better movie :) .

What an amazing kick off episode! I’m in the middle of listening, but curious how you all determined it is set in 1954? Based on the son of a Nazi character’s age (a child in the 1940s) as well as the plethora of miniskirts (NOT a 50s fashion), I believe it is essentially contemporary with 1970. And Joe! Re: Helmut’s age. If you recall from our beloved PRIDE, there were different ages of consent for straights vs gays back then😊 Thank you to local treasure Vidiots for the DVD rental!

Great episode. Looking forward to the miniseries. Joe I think mentions in the episode the length of Irma La Douce. The ridiculously over long high budget comedy with interminable bar fight’s seem to be a thing in the 1960s. I have no idea why Hollywood thought that was a good idea.

Robert Anton

*peeking my head in sheepishly* Ryan’s Daughter is pretty good. The John Mills character is terrible but Sarah Miles, Trevor Howard, and Robert Mitchum are all good in it. By bloated epic standards it’s certainly better than lots of 70’s crap (looking at you Nicholas and Alexandra)

OK Chris REALLY made me want to watch Airport. And I kept thinking of that awful song 'Airport' by The Motors throughout the whole discussion (which my mum is OBSESSED WITH).

Sooo excited to hear what you guys have in store for us. Learned a lot! Disagree with your saltburn takes, and that’s okay. Loved this episode!

So, I’m a couple degrees from Diary of a Mad Housewife, since I spent the aughts working with the widower of the late Sue Kaufman (author of the 1967 novel on which the movie was based). This was years after she had died by suicide in the late 70s. Curious, I read the novel then watched the film back when I first started that job. Both are a time capsule of the era in which they were produced.

Such a good episode about a movie I never heard of before. the best thing!

Sarah Miles is still alive!!! (Me coming to this episode several weeks late).
