Expires on Netflix on 4/30, so good timing in case anyone needs to see it!!

Can’t wait to learn all the movies you’re covering so I can have my own mini-GIFF (Gary’s International Film Festival)

Rob

There can be 100 homes, and 99 don’t believe in you…

Chrissy

Oooh been waiting for an episode on this!

JPB Gerald

The last movie I saw in theaters before covid was parasite. The next one was EEAAO. So yes, late 2019 to early 2022 indeed

Jenny Maurer

Finally y’all are gonna tackle shrek (it won a prize at Cannes if memory serves 😉)

James Sykora

I met Ramin Bahrani very briefly after Goodbye Solo screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival. He was at the screening and talked to people after. The then-director of the Cleveland Cinematheque told him he was glad Bahrani shot on film and Bahrani said it was shot on digital. He talked about getting digital to approximate film if you know what you can and can’t shoot, then turns to me—because I am wearing a bright red shirt with, sigh, Peter Griffin as Che Guevara (2009!)—and says my shirt would look terrible on digital because the cameras still couldn’t handle the color red.

nocturnal animals or i’m not there for the grand jury prize

I had to pause and google that “live action” Lady and the Tramp because I had NO memory of it

OH so many of us of a certain age HAVE NOT forgotten Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s relationship!!!! I’m pretty sure they walked red carpets together during the course of that relationship so it was confirmed on that front.

This movie reminds me a little of Michael Clayton, which is a better movie, but which I like much less than the standard line. The movies both raise really interesting questions about complicity in late capitalism, but chicken out by having villains committing actual crimes the legal system recognizes.

ok i, being insane, made my speculative list for the may miniseries, posting for posterity and to prove how wrong I will be! Sundance (Exception): You Can Count On Me or American Splendor Cannes: Taste of Cherry or Titane Venice: Somewhere or Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead TIFF: Strictly Ballroom NYFF: White Noise or The Walk

The Neon Demon defender logging in… holds a special place in my heart as the first Grown Up Movie I drove an hour to see at the one indie theater in central Iowa. Long live the recently resurrected Fleur Cinema!!

Chauncey Telese

If have nominated Michael Shannon in The Night Before. He's so fucking funny in it.

Liesl

I'm very excited for the May miniseries! I would like to attend a film festival at some point before I die and enjoy hearing about their many intricacies. I love Michael Shannon. He can give such powerhouse performances, but seems like a delightful kook offscreen. I remember when he wore a pin to the 2017 Oscars that said "No!" on the red carpet and when asked, said it meant "no to everything."

Zoe Streckfuss

So excited for the May miniseries! What a great idea!

"In France, it's 99 MEN." Wow, I'm in a real "cheers AND jeers" place toward that one. Butseriouslyfolks, very looking forward to the May-niseries, as ever, and I was particularly interested in the Telluride episode. Know, too, that there should be no pressure to scale up and up with these - bigger isn't necessarily better, and as long as the fun topics with fun people remain, we're good.

"Orlando, the most depressing place in the world [later adjusted to 'America']" By the way, greetings from a since-day-one listener from Orlando, FL, and...yeah, in short, not a fan. Not here to counter but to go, "Say, that's where I am!" (Speaking to festivals, something I DO like about Orlando is that being here let me attend a film festival for the first time, I live pretty close to the home bases of the FL Film Festival, and sometimes that's a nice thing.)

Chris Feil saying "I'm going to need a title" for that Ted Bundy movie has to be the cruelest thing ever said on this show.

German Munoz

I saw Andrew Garfield do Angels in America at the National Theatre in London and I thought that him gong that big and broad really worked well in the space. I totally get the criticism, but it was better in a large room, I guess.

German Munoz

Also, omg, Chris, I felt "Tick, tick.. Boom" was honestly one of the best stage to screen adaptations of this century, easily!

Priyanka

catching up on pods and yes completely agreed that we live in time is a force for evil!!! what a waste of that cast!
