Love to get this, an ep on the Palme winner selected by Spike Lee’s jury that was announced early in the awards ceremony, the day that Spike Lee drops the trailer for Highest 2 Lowest a day early.

When I worked at Marie’s Crisis in the early 10s, I unfortunately did not ever encounter Mr. DeNiro,. I did, however, get to play for multiple cast members of Palme d’Or winner ALL THAT JAZZ (unsurprisingly), including Leland Palmer, Ben Vereen, and the great Ann Reinking (may she rest) as well as later, the lovely mother of the girl who played Ann on TV. Fosse is the great spirit who connects us all in this wide world 😂

SINNERS is not a musical! A movie about music is not inherently a musical! It’s the best movie of the year so far, and it’s a lot of things, but it’s not a musical!

MJ

That roll call of directors always kills me when she gets to “Maïwenn”

Sam Hetherington

I have such fond memories of watching this movie at my local film festival. It was the closing night of their first year back after skipping 2020 and the atmosphere was just incredible. Lots of hooting and hollering to the LONG list of content warnings in the intro. Truly my definitive “the movies are back” movie

Ang Lee's Dad

All three Harvey Keitel-featuring Palmes represented in your top 3s!

Luca Bruno

Maybe I just overheard it but no mention of Alexia‘s father being played by Bertrand Bonello of all people?

Sarah Lang

Joe: “Explain the Vincent Lindon thing to me.” Me: 😳 (thinking of Friday Night) Joe: “I haven’t seen that many Claire Denis films.” Me: 😊 (excited for Joe to see Friday Night)

Wonderful ep! Count me in the pro-TITANE camp– I think of this decade's Palme winners, it's my favourite so far (though ANATOMY OF A FALL is a very close second). That being said, completely agree that this should have been Apichatpong Weerasethakul's second Palme for what is the best film of the decade. Can't wait for ALPHA, and of course, for the rest of the May miniseries!

Always love a Marty mention, a movie that I find so lovely and charming but doesn’t necessarily seem like it would be a best picture, and so it’s extra-delightful that it was.

Paige Gray

I adore Compartment No. 6.

AJW

I just squealed when you said you are covering Strictly Ballroom!

Kara Hogan

Thank you for doing an episode on this movie that I am too scared to watch because I have a very hard time with body horror (I almost had to leave the theater during the one scene in A Different Man)

Joe there are at least two of us who like Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom more than The Hand of God. L:AYITC is very sweet - would not call it a great movie but it is pleasant and heartwarming in its best moments.

Elizabeth Musser

I liked this movie a lot, and am loving thinking about it after viewing. I love, love, love the Future Islands needle drop and all the fireman dance parties.

Keegon

I saw this movie in the small screening room at Music Box in Chicago and the audience around me HATED it. The vibes were so bad that I didn't go back until I saw The Substance in the same room. (Girl, I was living each time, but Monday afternoon screenings are not my crowd)

Michelle Brosius

I finally watched this movie, having been curious about it for some time! I didn't love it, love it, but I'm also grateful that I encountered The Substance first, which prepped me a bit for some of the body horror here.

German Munoz

Thanks for this and for the long episodes! Such a joy.
