I was waiting for this! So excited to listen. Thanks guys!

Luca Bruno

Guys, Come See Me in the Good Light is definitely not winning Documentary

Hannah W

Is something going on with the RSS feed? Neither of the recent episodes are in my app

Elisabeth

I wish you guys did more of these episodes, last year's format with constant updates was amazing. (I get that it takes a lot of time, I'm just being a selfish brat). I loved this episode! Also, I was kind of disapointed when the short list came out: so many of the same movies in all categories.. I feel like in order to watch all nominated movies this year, we'll only have to watch 12 (excluding shorts and docs).

Sam Hetherington

Not Chris Feil being the Frances Fisher of the Indie Spirits

I was very excited to see Wake Up Dead Man in a theater like I’d seen the first two but it wasn’t playing anywhere in my entire state. I wanted to give them my genuine American dollars. Not much else has interested me even a little this month.

Rebecca

The last actress to win NYFCC, LAFCA and national society but no oscar nom was just last yr. Hope Rose Byrne doesn't repeat that stat.

Stephanie Radcliffe

When I spent $3 in the MFL on "Weapons", I thought Amy Madigan was just going to get a couple of critics' prizes. I'm tickled that she's making a real run for Best Supporting Actress.

Braden Poapst

We’re at risk of this year being a Diane Warren AND J. Ralph year. We must not let this happen!

Jenny Maurer

I really want delroy lindo and benincio del toro to tie for best supporting actor

Braden Poapst

Genuinely though you were about to say “There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernanda” before talking about Brazil re: The Oscars.

Riley

It INFURIATES me that KPop Demon Hunters is only running Golden!! It’s enough of a hit that they could campaign another song, get it nominated, and still easily win. Barbie did that two years ago!! (Also, to me, it’s one of the weaker songs in the movie, I much prefer Takedown and How It’s Done and even both the boy band songs, and all of those would be fun Oscar nominees)

The 'it's actually method acting' excuses of Timothee's baffling ego speeches seem pre-emptively defensive. Speaking as a non-American, all I'll say is those speeches could only be tolerated in America. Amazing ep, looking to be a fantastic Oscar lineup. I can also feel a Sentimental Value diminshment in the air as well. Regardless, Stellan can do a Kieran Culkin and easily coast by on his very funny interviews and basically get an Oscar for his TV work (Andor)

Carrie Williams

As recent empty nesters, my husband and I are very unexpectedly finding ourselves at the movies quite frequently. I mean, we went to see The Roses just because its a treat to have a new Olivia Colman movie. We drove across town to see Wake Uo Dead Man, because we wanted to see it. You’re right- people can just go! It’s fun! And yes, I sometimes even bring my own snacks. For Christmas I’m buying one of those rewards memberships so we’ll go even more. You can just go to the movies and see a movie.

Listening to the Timmy convo post the music video release is… interesting.

Elliott Sainsbury

I love how much shade Joe and Chris throw in this episode! Love to hear critics be real about films and not bite their tongues. So intrigued what the (IMO excruciating) Timmy press tour is going to shift his chances. I love him, but the merch, the music video, the trashy outfits - I'm exhausted.

Clare

I love this pod. Love how you actively are thinking about how to keep these convos fresh (which cannot be said for many of my other movie pods…). Don’t always agree with your takes but always feel my brain and taste and critical lens expanding as I listen to them!

C S

Finally got to Frankenstein. I sooooo want to hear them discuss the fact that it is this decade's Julie and Julia, if you know what I mean. And yes, that does make Jacob Elordi Meryl.

Sarah Lang

Can’t wait for Joe to watch Mrs. Miniver.

Hayden Claborn

In my opinion, sneaking in food really only works for candy, which isn’t my primary movie snack. You can’t sneak in icees. Drinks you can sneak in. I guess you could sneak in popcorn, but movie theater popcorn tastes better than microwave popcorn.

Elliott Sainsbury

Also saw The Secret Agent in a huge auditorium full of Brazilians and they were going off (in a good way)! Spoke to a Brazilian actor who'd travelled all the way from Wales to London to see it. THAT dinner scene with Wagner shows off his skills. But also the centerpiece of Maria Fernanda Cândido and Thomas Aquino talking to him as the movie cuts across time periods would be a great Oscar clip. Tânia Maria and Carlos Francisco are on my best supporting lists this year. They're fairly unknown but I wish they'd been pushed because those characters and performances are incredible.

Traci

I love being one of the Garys 🐌💖 Thank you to Chris and Joe for the oasis of comfort and fun!

Clint

i might’ve missed it but i don’t think y’all even mentioned jennifer lawrence in die my love when talking about best actress contenders, which maybe reflects her standing in the race at this point…

Bira Glass

Lol oh Joe, number one twink defense counsel (complimentary!)

Jared

Why is no one hyping Glenn Close for supporting actress? She is sooo good, hilarious and heart breaking in Wake Up Dead Man, it feels like such a slam dunk

Kara Hogan

I like Regina Hall in OBAA but she really is barely in the movie - especially considering the analog for her character in Vineland, she doesn’t have a lot to do. But that category to me is so wide open atm that it could happen, although I’d prefer her to get a nomination for an actually meaty part.

Eden Sapir

Great episode - it’s affirming to hear takes that I’m thinking about and no one but ya’ll are saying them! I didn’t like Frankenstein but it doesn’t mean I don’t love GDT - first of his films that I’ve disliked and I feel like I have to add that in anytime I’m talking about it lol Also, I’m definitely one of the Regina Hall in OBAA advocates. She’s so great and turns in a true supporting turn. If Jackie Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) or Judi Dench (Belfast) can get nominated, I don’t see why Hall shouldn’t when she’s doing such subtle, expertly calibrated work here in just a few scenes. It’s deserved. I’m seeing her starting to surge with more critics group mentions + wins these last couple weeks too. I’m getting hyped/hopeful with SAG noms coming up— she’s campaigning, she’s beloved and WB is backing her pretty hard, I feel like this is her chance to get in one of the 5 slots. Fingers crossed 🤞

Liesl

I really appreciated your pointed comments about the first half of Hamnet, especially after I listened to an episode from a podcast I regularly listen to about it and their criticism made me roll my eyes.

Emily Sabo

I saw it last summer, but I thought Mistress Dispeller was very interesting—though maybe more for the story than the direction. In it, the Mistress Dispellers are people hired by someone whose spouse is cheating and they want their spouse ‘back’ and the third party out of the picture. And the dispeller insinuates themselves into the lives of all three people to try and make that happen.

Kelsey W

“nudging on Simone territory” GOT me 💀

JPB Gerald

This conversation is very funny now

JPB Gerald

Lol at 'No people aren't turning on Timmy yet' now
