I agree with Chris that they can't film a Rumors movie until Stevie and Lindsey are gone. Which unfortunately means that my spectacular casting idea wouldn't work: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Think of the metatextual longing looks!

How about this modern day Rumours cast (obviously live singing is up in the air): Stevie Nicks – Julia Garner Lindsey Buckingham – Mike Faist Christine McVie – Mia Wasikowska John McVie – Alex Sharp Mick Fleetwood – Nicholas Hoult

Chris' feud with Jessica Lange continues, I see...

Brent Wilson

The Rumors movie ends with "Silver Springs" as performed on The Dance.

Absolutely heard “call in” as “Colin”. And for a moment there thought there were going to be ad hoc Colin Farrell minisodes. ‘The Turbulent Brilliance of Phonebooth’, etc…

Eric Nordin

Linklater winning for a merrily? Let us not forget that 20 years will be a whole new generation to Oscar voters. Fingers crossed. Also fun to hear my doc question addressed. You da best fellas!

You say “revelatory sex scenes” in The Boys on the Boat? Got me intrigued! Also love that Chris defended Judy Garland from Grace Kelly. Even if she won for Rear Window, it’d still be theft. Garland gives, in my opinion, the greatest performance of all time. Rare has a performance felt as a real. It sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable because we’re seeing Garland really just lay it all out there.

The Fleetwooc Mac question is amazing. For the aughts, I chose chaos: - Toni Colette as Christine - COURTNEY LOVE as Stevie Nicks (you need someone witchy, charismatic and wild) - Bradley Cooper as Lindsey Buckingham (they look so alike!) - (who cares) As John McVie - John Hawkes as Mick Fleetwood - thinking of his Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene cult leader vibe And for now: - Saoirse Ronan as Christine - Dakota Johnson as Stevie (because Suspiria and the Ellen interview) - Paul Mescal as John McVie in old-age makeup (just because) - Also chose R-Pattz as Lindsey (in a curly wig)!! - Christopher Abbott as Mick Fleetwood? Also more sound drops please! My favourite quotes come from this podcast!

I’ve never agreed with Chris more than I have about Jamie Lee Curtis. The fact that she was awarded for, inarguably, the weakest performance of the cast when Stephanie Hsu was RIGHT THERE makes me so angry.

Thanks for answering my question! (perfect oscar ceremony) Loved the vote total question, an absolute dream to see that info! Brokeback year is such a good answer. I'd love to see Shakespeare in Love totals and how much the two WWII movies cannibalized each other.

Two things: Tom Cruise used to collect interesting directors like Pokémon but since the fifth MI movie that seems less important to him. I would love to see Greta Gerwig take on the gender flipped Company as we know from Ladybird she is a Sondheim girly. And right now she could get anything made.

Clint

glenn close doing “da butt” dance while holding her oscar 🤣

linklater really, really *should* have a best original screenplay oscar for boyhood. would’ve already been sort of a “career achievement” for him after the before series…

Clint

zero exaggeration when i say that the marie antoinette teaser trailer changed my life

I forgot how great a year 2019 was for women directors. I looked back at my personal top ten for that year and 7 were directed by women

Just a heads up, ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT’S ME, MARGARET is now on Starz for anyone with that channel. Really hoping McAdams gets a nomination for this. She’s just so damn perfect in it.

Erin Hardy

For a second there, I was really hoping you were going to cop to having a shareable Google Drive filled with Oscar ceremonies.

I feel like a modern example of a great compilation soundtrack is Promising Young Woman. It really does match the tone of the film perfectly. My vinyl copy is a treasure in my collection.

Anna Coote

When it comes to trailers, I think a modern classic that often goes unmentioned is the A Star is Born (2018) trailer! It built up hype for the movie, while not giving too much away and genuinely being rewatchablr. Also, a genuine candidate for the soundtrack album question.

You take Crash out of it the 2000s aren't a bad decade for Best Picture winners. Patton is great, you think he's going to be this fully this jingoistic right-leaning figure and then he gets talking about past lives, so he's a complex character. And that with me saying fuck the antisemitic real life person.

Gunnar

Love Little Children but hadn’t watched the trailer before. Truly incredible

This is a year late but I’m going to say it anyway — Brittany Murphy as 2000s Stevie. It’s a little young but I think would have been phenomenal
