this ep started with them getting all up in each other's faces in dongsik's basement and it ended the exact same way 🙂‍↕️ oh, episode 5... iirc that last basement confrontation even had shin hakyun (dongsik) asking "isn't this a kiss scene?" during filming lolol

Hi, I got so excited watching it with you! I saw this series last year and rewatching it with you gives me the same thrills. Believe me, it gets better and better with each episode.

i just think it's VERY important that you know netflix seems to have de-gayed the subtitles - at the end, when joowon has just accused dongshik (yet again) of covering for jeongje, dongshik does NOT say he was going to let it slide "because you were trying" - it's "because you're (being) cute" - i repeat: HE CALLS HIM CUTE! every other platform i've seen has translated it this way, and i took a look at the korean subtitles and they seem to confirm it. so yeah, in case it wasn't gay enough already! i also really love how whenever joowon's facade cracks, dongshik just gets this particular look, like he knew all along what was underneath and he sees straight to the heart of him - he does it when joowon's asking why they were protecting him from the reporter, and again when he's breaking down about needing to catch the killer cos he's tormented by his own culpability. it's such a switch-up from the way he's usually baiting him - it's not a 'gotcha!' look, but more of a 'ah, there you are, i understand now' look.

he loves calling him cute

Hi :) In Korean culture, calling someone "cute" can have two distinct meanings. First, it is an everyday expression of genuine affection toward someone you adore. It is commonly used between romantic partners, by parents toward their children, by adults toward kids, or toward pets like dogs and cats. Importantly, not every use of "cute" in Korea carries a romantic or flirtatious undertone. Koreans often say it simply because the other person said or did something genuinely endearing. Second, it can be used in more unconventional or adversarial situations to look down on or patronize someone—such as a rival, opponent, or enemy. In these contexts, it serves as a way to show that you are entirely unfazed, unintimidated, and unbothered by their actions, threats, or counterattacks, projecting that they pose no real threat to you at all. This version carries zero affection; it is typically delivered with supreme confidence or amusement, accompanied by a smirk or a dismissive chuckle. P.S. English isn't my first language, so please excuse any awkward phrasing or grammatical errors.

I'd say that's pretty much exactly the same usage as in English actually!

THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY SEE EACH OTHERRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!! I'M WAILING I love that we're starting to see some genuine fondness slowly developing between them beyond just the thrill of the cat and mouse game... I feel like juwon especially had already caught feelings but was in denial bc he thought dongsik was a literal serial killer but as SOON as the evidence so much as SUGGESTED dongsik might just be covering for someone and there was a chance someone else might be ultimately responsible, juwon fell headfirst into being jealous/protective/actively crushing lmao
