ohhhhh one of the shows of ALL time, up there with weak hero for me, both on the level of OBSESSION and just the quality of it like wow the gaggery and dramatics of it all is what kdramas these days have been MISSINGGGG. if ur already reacting like this to the first ep then you're in for a wild ride lmaoo can't wait for next week

i think freddie might have the english dub cc on, actually. i went to rewatch the episodes because i couldn't wait and noticed that yeah the subs are a bit different.

I was about to comment 2min in that it's the English (CC) subtitles, luckily you were fast enough to already catch it! I definitely recommend switching to the English subtitles, which are closer to the OG Korean and especially important in this drama, since they pretty much messed up one of THE most important scenes in the drama in the English(CC) subtitles (insert *look how they massacred my boy* meme).

It's a spoiler! 😅 If you have already seen the drama, you can continue reading below: . WARNING . . . SPOILERS INCOMING . . . . . In episode 6, when Pio confronts the kidnapper, he yells "Do you even know how special he was? Do you have any idea?" in the English subtitles. As we know, this is the part that Jeongyo later in episode 11 gets to hear to confirm how Pio truly feels. In the English(CC) subtitles this gets translated as "You know who he was? He was my friend!" which in my opinion a) doesn't hit half as hard as the other version and b) is a little too on the nose for my taste (like, media literacy is low these days, but hopefully not that low so people don't understand the intention behind those words 😅).

don't think there are any spoilers in this reply but just to be safe... . . . . . . . . . . oh wow, yeah i totally get that, especially since i read a comment from a korean speaker about how the specific language pio uses when referring to jeongyo in that line is meaningful in a way hard to translate into english, and it was definitely much more loaded than that cc translation!

never has an actor looked sadder or prettier than song kang in this show. i'm truly sorry for your suffering but i did very much enjoy the crashing out and am super excited for all the breakdowns to come! some harmless trivia to ease the pain - there's actually a beyond evil crossover going on here: one of the bullies is played by young jinmook!
