Hi hi.

Ben conquered the rift, and the system gave him four reward options. He only gets to keep one of them though, so you get to pick ;]

Each option opens up arcs for later on, as well. The poll closes when the chapter where he makes his choice goes up.

Important note: do note that choosing anything here doesn't disqualify the other arcs in their entirety, it just disqualifies them from appearing early compared to the others. It's a preference choice more than anything, and this is not the poll that decides what the next arc will be. Most of the arcs hinted at in this poll will happen regardless, though what unlocks them later on might be different compared to the rewards here directly relating to them.

1) [Construct Blueprint: Mana Shell] (Author-Signed)

This would give Ben a real defense, so he isn't stuck healing through every hit. The real reward is the knowledge, though, as he can probably learn a defensive skill soonish, but this reward will lead us toward an arc where he meets a person I won't name, but they're powerful, and he might end up learning a lot about constructs.

2) [Memory Shard: Tier 3 Guardian]

This one could give him something huge, or something meh. Leads toward: the guardian's memories, what rifts are, and a gamble on a new skill.

3) [Guardian Core] (Crafting Material)

Ben can't craft, so on its own this is a very expensive rock. Someone who can craft would value it a lot more. Leads toward: a crafting arc, where he meets a person I won't name, but they're powerful, and he might end up learning a lot about constructs. This relates to the construct arc, so they're kind of interchangeable.

Both of them also unlock more Ethan stuff, proper friendship, Ethan's sister, his House/family, important figures in the western plains, and also introduces lot more villains and antagonists (antagonists aren't necessarily villains, just that their interests conflict with MC)

4) [Hidden Rift Key: Tier 2] (Single Use)

This one is pretty straightforward. A way into another rift. It works once, the rift is hidden, and nobody knows what's inside or where it is. Leads toward: a new rift arc later on, and some complications Ben won't see coming that will lead to developments way overblown out of proportion.

Vote away, and tell me why in the comments!

Personally I'm leaning towards the memory shard because the guardian was really interesting and I want to see what Ben can learn

Memory shards or rift key

Youkai-sama

As much as I like the construct stuff, the key is the only longterm choice. If he takes the squad and breaks this one too, then he get more swoll levels & loot. And the [Memory Shard] is a trick. The thing coulda been summoned & sicced right when needed and HAVE NO MEMORIES.

Speedy Planet

I think the key is the best choice, because it provides so much room for growth, and effectively provides and escape from a bad situation in the future.

Marco Tertulliani

I am not a huge fan of constructs and crafting so I would go with the key.

Xurican

The key. Helps with later things, and he still can make that shield the guy showed him

Plavrov

Key is the one with the most potential. You can basically use the new rift as a means to give him on of the others as rewards or, at least, similar rewards.

memory shard is the best choice wilh his overall lack of knowledge of the world, though the key is also very tempting :}

Construct: + Useful now. - likely to be replaced soon ++ Insight into constructs which is basically spell crafting; That seems immensely powerful and versatile ++ Insight into defensive constructs and as a bonus, is useful for the new defense he wants to replace it with. This basically cancels out the previous negative, with some extra value. + General synergy with a skill he is already developing. Memory Shard: +/- Insight into rifts (interesting; maybe useful? Maybe not.) ++ Potentially a Tier 3 equivalent power at peak Tier 1. Skill upgrades and fusions could make this a cornerstone of his kit. + provides an immediate use for his skill slots, which he has an extra of now. - Maybe no power at all. Guardian Core: -/+ Not useful right now. Maybe useful later. - External benefits are replaceable in a tier or two. Unless it scales. + gateway to crafting. Useful, but crafting itself still boils down to "trade resources I could have used for permanent benefits for something useful now, but which will be discarded later." Maybe a source of income, if he wants to trade away training time for crafting time. Key: -/+ No concrete reward now. Get opportunities for new--potentially better--ones later. - He can likely visit a tier 2 rift anyways. Trading a guaranteed reward for something he can already access seems wasteful. Unless there are first clear rewards or something. But that's an IF that we haven't been clued into yet. + Easy source of essence from tier 2 to 3. Verdict: Core and Key trade rewards now for rewards later that will either be discarded, or could have been accessed anyways, respectively. Memory Shard seems big if things go his way, but is too swing-y. Construct is useful now, offers knowledge that empowers skills he is developing anyways, and while it is "going to be replaced" it will likely springboard him to the skill he wants to replace it with. The general opinion seems to be the key, but I think the the obvious winner is: Construct.

4) [Hidden Rift Key: Tier 2] (Single Use)

ReShaddoll

For me its between the construct or the key. Imma go with key cause Im a loot goblin

Monadologist

if he hadn't ended the chapter saying 'i'll do it that guys' way anyways' i'd have said the signed mana shell, but since he did and even the guy in the rift didn't expect him to fight the guardian, i'd say the guardian's memories. could untangle a bit more about where guardians come from, what is going on with the system fuckery, points him off toward another random but powerful skill, and doesn't drop you directly into another rift arc, or force you into situations with new powerful characters just yet. You have a cast, use them.

Alex

Depending on the direction to.take.his development - more.combat or.less.

The shard would/could be a fun and powerful tool for a DM (or author in the case). It can add some crazy things, teach him stuff he should know or stuff he isn’t allowed to, it could try and take him over challenging his soul or will. So many ways that could go. The rift key is a good future reward but does nothing for us readers now.

Abbi

... memory shard, because it is the only one that doesn't clearly lead to something that I get the general vibe would be imitated anyways, eventually - or in other words, this sounds like a side quest while the others sound like shuffling aspects of the main quest and I would rather have more than less.

Abbi

(The construct and guardian core lead to leaning on his main option for the near future. The key provides an arc he is clearly capable of triggering by existing for a month or two. The memory shard is different - and therefore doesn't Just lead where he'll go regardless.)
