I FINALLY sat down and and watched this. WOW. Amazing work Dan! Can't wait to rewatch again. Such heart and sole in this video - makes you really feel for both Margie AND Scott and the best life they were hoping to lead. Shines a light on the sadness of addiction and poverty. We need to do better.

Victoria Corporon

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love you and all your work. keep bein awesome :)

ThisIsDanBell

It’s public now. I can’t wait for another Margie & Scott debut. I need to be done with this. Hardest AI / sound mixing jobs ever. You have no idea how please I am right now.

Michael Rose aka HighrangeMike

I grew up in Florida outside of Orlando. My grandparents lived in Sarasota and we lived with them from 1980 until about 83 or 84. Then we moved to Orlando. But my grandparents continued living in Sarasota. So I have been really excited to see this for awhile as growing up in Florida in the 80’s and early 90’s I really can remember what central Florida was like in those days. I feel like I’m some instances I can totally feel this documentary. I really can remember the old raw old school Florida back roads/towns and the feelings they gave me in the 80’s. So this kinda gives me that feel!

Scott Oakes

I was able to see it this morning. One of lucky few. It was so good Dan..Great work buddy.

Tina

I’m excited to watch!! Going to wait till after work I can’t wait 🥰🥰

DJ Metzler

What a moving film about the real side of America so often unseen and the pitfalls of alcoholism and co-dependency that plague our country. My Grandma was named Marge and battled with alcoholism in the early parts of her life as did some other older members of our family. I can’t help but think she sent this film my way for me to remember her. I believe she still looks out for me.

Deborah Raphael

Great documentary Dan. It's so sad how alcoholism destroys people. Margie and Scott both seemed like intelligent and nice people who just couldn't beat their addiction, and died way too soon.

TheDeadSkeletonShow

Fantastic and raw. Riveting and real. This is a great documentary Dan. I’m glad you got to meet them, learn about them, laugh and maybe cry with them. But more importantly tell their story and, sadly capture their goodbyes.

Brook Shaffer

So fuckin amazing. Thank you Dan

Leeanne Halls

Absolutely amazing Dan i loved every bit of it. Full of emotion. Thank you so much. Love and Blessings always from me and Australia

Joe Bush

thank you Dan i can't wait to dive into this one, worth the wait

Fuzza Majumula

This is one of your best, Dan! I'm sad about the fact that they are both dead, now. How did they die so young?

Mike

Thanks Dan, literally can’t wait to get out of work and watch this.

weedwizard420XXX

I was glued to the screen for the entirety of this.

Sebastien Bolduc

Dan, what the heck are you doing "not" making documentaries? This is your calling in life. I do hope with the reactions you get for Margie and Scott that it will motivate you to make more. You paid nothing but the upmost respect towards Margie and Scott with the release of this documentary. You gave them back a dignity that was taken from them due to their addition. And by this, you also gave them back a piece of their humanity. Margie was a tough woman! She was also very intelligent. Especially the part where she figured out that the wiring for the lights of the trailer were crossed. Despite all her toughness, her suffering in life, etc she still had a good heart. As for Scott, he was a shadow of his former self. It was sad to see both on them in this state. You exhibited the reality of life, that the American dream all depends on the cards that life hands you. At any minute the coin can be flipped for or against ones advantage. And in the case of Margie and Scott, it was due to battling those demons within their own mind, aka addiction. The imagery of the Bug Light advert behind her during your interview, wow. Btw, was that a coincidence? Also the part at the beginning, with the television playing in the background, reminds me of a Roger Waters album, or Pink Floyd's The Wall. What was playing on the television fit into a larger narrative of the theme behind your documentary, the haves and the have nots. This was more than just a documentary about 2 people struggling with an addition, in my opinion. Job well done! And thank you for giving Margie and Scott a face. They will forever be immortalized within your work. And you never know, maybe their story will help someone out there to change their life before it's too late.

You're absolutely correct about how he captures the real side of life, and especially an addition problem that plagues millions of people. I do believe that his documentary may help someone out there going through the same or similar battle.

Courtney Pierce

I could've watched 3-4 more hours of this. Such a wonderfully made documentary. Can't believe Margie would torture a frog since she seems like such a compassionate person. Loved this, Dan thank you for sharing!

Margie had liver failure but couldn’t stop drinking. She just collapsed one evening drunk and never woke up. Scott I’m not sure. I haven’t talked to his family so perhaps I’ll look into getting in touch with them.

Jen aka luvjaxn

Great job Dan! Loved it. You really captured their personalities life issues everything.

Justin Stoermer (djeurosham)

The film is amazing. The quality is great- I watched on a 60” OLED TV and it was theater quality. The story is also great. I love how you can tell such compelling stories with little to no narration. Seriously fascinating characters and settings. Totally worth the long wait.

Jack Ladny

Excellent character study , two interesting people . Thanks Dan . You really get to like these people

Alivia Shook

I've been looking forward to this ever since you mentioned it being in the works on an early podcast. I think it was an older one and I joined Patreon 3 or 4 years ago. So, I've had big hype for quite a while! So worth the wait, Dan! This was fascinating, you are a gifted filmmaker. I know you talked about putting this on Amazon Prime. I hope you can make money off of this doc, prime or not, because it is evident you put a lot of time and skill into it. I am also very glad to hear you have come out of your fog and you are finishing up projects! I have been watching your stuff since 2016, and I am a lifetime fan! Again, this was very well done, you should be proud!

John Wilson

I absolutely love this film, Dan. I feel compelled to watch it again. I feel so bad for them. I desperately wanted to see Margie fulfill the goals she talked about at the end.

Allen Taylor

I’m so proud of you, Dan. This was a major psychological and professional accomplishment for you.

Matt Thomas

Just finished watching this masterpiece my eyes where stuck to the sceen the whole way, amazing and the pan into Margie's eyes at the end was very moving and hope she got some projects done from her bucket list before she passed and hope Scott got himself some help he deserved. He had a good heart just a shame he was struggling with alcohol but despite his issues he was still a good friend to Margie. Now there together again maybe having a beer and enjoying life in heaven god bless them both and thank you Dan for putting all your heart and soul into making this documentary over the years.

Brandon Drescher

Very nice work Dan. Been looking forward to this for some time since it really seemed like a project that you had really put a lot of heart into. Really sad the ending and all that Margie had hoped for her future and to see she passed only a few years later. Really enjoy your long format documentaries and hope you continue to do them.

Krista

This was outstanding. Margie was an incredible woman. I would have loved to hear about her accomplishing all the things she still wanted to. So sad she passed so young.

Constance Turner

Just finished watching, what an amazing project and slice of life. Thank you for sharing. the 4K turned out nice!! I was sad to see they both passed at the end, I guess I missed that if you've spoken about it in past podcasts etc. much love xoxo

Matt Taglia

I never comment here, but I think this deserves a quick bit of praise: this was a stunning film, truly. The simplicity of the narrative is what struck me most - this was a glimpse of a brief period of these people's lives, during which not all that much happens on the face of it. But beneath that tedium there's a complexity that captures what it means to get older, to struggle, to appreciate the little things, and we can all relate to either Margie or Scott in some sense. I choked up at the end. This was such a human documentary in every sense, and it took an eye for hidden gems to produce. Bravo Dan.

Jack

Beautiful film. Love the fact there’s no music, it just makes it hit even harder. Will be thinking about their stories for a while to come…

David Page

Wow Dan this was 100% worth the wait. Amazing documentary!

Renee

Wow.. Right in the feels. Margie is tragic and sad, but for some reason watching how much pain was always behind Scott's eyes was actually difficult for me to watch at times. I honestly would have been interested in reading an autobiography about his life (and Margie's too for that matter). Obviously the alcoholism and domineering wife played a large roll but I feel like this guy had been though it. This movie looked beautiful. Well worth the wait.

Joe Bush

Dan what year did you film Margie and Scott? also how did you find these two people to film?

Joseph Nagy

Just finished watching....loved it, very moving. Definitely going to watch it a few more times thought the ending was very moving.

Not only does Margie look like my aunt, but their personalities are almost identical. My aunt passed away suddenly, tragically, and completely alone just this past November. Her last message read, “help,”. Radio silence for 2 weeks until police found her body. It’s suspected she died the same night she needed us. I was listening to one of your Podcasts at work when I got the news. My stomach dropped. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. She’d been missing for over 2 weeks. She received her BS Degree in Criminal Justice and Master of Arts in Legal and Ethical Studies. She studied law and it was a dream of hers to work with the Innocence Project. I only recently found out she opened a men’s halfway house in Baltimore. She was there for everyone in the height of their addictions, while hers ultimately, and tragically took her life. This one made me cry, Dan. Thank you.

Kelly Newton

This was absolutely worth the wait, thank you Dan.

Cemetery Ridge Films

Both an amazing and yet very difficult watch. I remember the trailer form many years ago, and have heard so much about it in various podcasts - but all the info is scattered over hundreds of hours. I hope you'll do a solo podcast next (so no distractions) that just focuses on Margie & Scott. Thanks for this Dan. Nice job.

Tina

Just watched, absolutely loved it!! So worth the wait. I really hope Margie got some things ticked off her bucket list ❤️

Karen

Really visually stunning. Margie was so generous, kind and intelligent. It’s so hard to comprehend how she got to where she was.

B Murph

Excellent film, Dan! They both seemed like such kind people. Thanks for sharing their story.

Honeycombheart

Aww Dan, that was so beautiful 😭 Margie going through the list of everything she was going to do at the end just brought me to tears. A beautiful film, visually stunning, and a sad truth of a void that many people live through in life just floating. You capture people in such fascinating ways. Thank you for sharing this story Dan.

Jesse Pollack
>>87481157

It’s so horrifying to know drinking killed her less than two years after filming this because she seemed to have it more together than Scott - except for, ya know, the whole gator thing lol

Jesse Pollack
>>87481157

According to Scott’s obituary, he died in hospice care and donated his body to science.

JdoubleU

This. This is where you shine! Amazing footage. Beautiful editing. Bravo!!!!

Bentstrider Nittoni

Loved it. I've lived in a motel a couple of times in my life. Once with my family when I was five and we just moved to CA in 1987. And more recently in 2012 when I first moved out to NM by myself and the apartment search was tight. Something about the permanent resident aspect of a smaller motel and the sense of community within them that doesn't compare to other living situations.

Eric Thornton

Wow wow wow speechless the ending was a kick in the nuts. 😭 I hope this gets a wider release so more people can see this. Congrats Dan!

Elizabeth Brookman

Oh Dan....that was worth the wait. ❤️🙌 I loved every minute of it...and didn't want it to end! You really captured so much with this documentary and not at anyone's expense. You did a wonderful job editing and the sound and picture quality was fantastic...so bright and clear! 👏👏👏 I hope you will consider doing more documentaries in the future.

It’s been awhile I believe The story Dan told was he was stuck in Naples fl for some reason and stayed at contys (Ironically I’ve passed by that motel so many times , going to from downtown Naples over the years, parents own a place down there) and met them

Maria

So worth the wait to learn all about Margie and Scott! It reminds me of when I worked with people in housing...I loved hearing all their life stories, even though most were sad. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!!

Steel Local

Remarkable, Dan such a great documentary. Honestly it's no surprise that you're talented but this deserves all the praise. It's too good for YouTube

Kim Carr

Brilliant, but heartbreaking. RIP Margie and Scott. So many tormented souls in the world. May they all find peace someday.

Nirmal Singh ❤️ Gordon Big Blue Express Engine

This was truly wonderful. It shows why we need to be careful n not allow ourselves to fall prey to our vices. When we do, there r often painful results. They were fascinating folks, but very tortured. You did such a fantasy job capturing every element of this!

Sarah M.

Thank you so much for this, Dan. It was well worth the wait.

Marybeth LaRivee

Totally worth waiting for. I hope they have peace wherever they are.

Erin Pallett

Dan, I am so thankful you finished this documentary. I think this is the most important film you have produced. It deserves a distributor for wide audience release. Congratulations!!!!!

Emily Down

Loved this so much Dan. Rest in peace Margie & Scott

Christina Gantert

The day after I watched this, I had the same feeling I get while watching a new show. That feeling of excitement, looking forward to a new episode, I wanted to see more of Margie. Then of course I remembered there was no more. It was that good, it left me wanting more. Margie was quite a unique person. I'm so happy for you Dan.

Cameron MacGregor

I had to leave town early last week. I waited until I got home to watch Margie and Scott because, as much as I had absolutely looked forward to seeing it, there was also an element of dread. I needed to be in a "safe" place because, damn... I knew this was going to hurt. And it did. It hurt so good. Alcoholism runs in our family. Both my grandfathers struggled; one almost drank himself to death. We did lose my Auntie Joy. What a great lady! "How could you LET yourself get that way," some might say. Well... I only learned about the hell they went through (i.e.: just some of what drove them to drink) decades later. Simply put: You can offer "help" but you can't live people's lives for them.

Cameron MacGregor

Thank you for sharing Margie and Scott with us, Dan. It was especially brave of you to release it on YouTube. I hope the people that need to see it, do so. This was a long time coming. No doubt the reasons for the hold-up were many and complicated. On podcasts and livestreams, when you said, "Oh, I just have to do [this-or-that technical aspect] and then I can release it," I suspected there was more to it than that. Margie and Scott were real people and now they're gone. Ultimately finishing the film would (theoretically) bring "closure." Are we ever truly ready for closure? I suppose it was a mix of inspiration and desperation that motivated you to finally get this film done. (Never knock the power of desperation.) Plus love. "Closure" is elusive. Instead, I raise a toast to the next chapter.

Mae Mallaney

Dan, I googled it! I see it all over the place! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Bobby The desert walker

This is an absolute masterpiece. The way you captured their inner most beings all of their inner turmoil and love with a grasping of hope and a future. We never really know what road we’re on or when that road is going to end. May they both be at rest in that place after this place.

Gillian Leyland

Third time watching this Dan and love it even more. Would love to have met them..bet they had lots of stories to tell! ;) xx

VegasTransCindy

Please do a Cutting Room Floor episode for this.
