Historically, this is how Ragnar died, in Northumbria in a pit of Snakes by King Aelle. The only thing that is different is that I believe irl, it is said he was crucified first, but I could be wrong. We have never found his body, and we don't know for sure that he existed, or if he did, then it is possible that they merged a few different Ragnars together (as it was a common name).
