The scene with Ivar screaming is a little controversial, many people think it was too much and quote “dumb” that they didn’t kill him right then and there. There’s a lot of ideas to why, the most popular one being, that the British soldiers all have heard of ivar, and they were afraid of the punishment they would receive for being the one who kills him. Another theory, which I don’t completely agree with, is that the saxons was so superstitious, that they genuinely thought he was the devil 😂 great reaction as always much love

Tbf, I think it is more that they would see him as a demon rather than the devil himself. I think they even referred to them as demons at one point which would make sense they would be hesitant to charge him. I personally think, it is to do with his fame and reputation for his crazy, anger fueled moments more than anything. Also they feared his father, Ragnar, so it stands to reasons that they fear his son's the same way.

They were scared of Ivar. The way Vikings used scare tactics in battle by sharping their teeth with blood in their mouths. The English being very strict Catholics, thought the Northman were demon possessed.

In my eyes, Ubbe and Ivar both have good points, however I side more with Ubbe. Ragnar never wanted his people to go on fighting, he wanted them to settle and farm and that was his whole purpose. Ivar is too fixated on trying to prove himself worthy enough, and since he is physically impaired, he leans too much into his anger, ruthlessness and strategic thinking because that is what he believes is all he has and what Ragnar expects of him, which is true, but not to this extent, and not in this way. Ubbe on the other hand embodies Ragnars practicality and desire to settle. In my opinion, Ragnar never intended for their to be one leader of the Great Army, as each of his sons has a different quality they got from Ragnar (Bjorn's has Ragnar's sense of adventure, Ubbe's has got his father's desire to settle, Ivar's got his strategic mind and ruthlessness and Hvitserk's is yet to be revealed.
