At the end of the day, Aethelred was a threat to his brother. He has already shown that he is capable of betraying his brother despite changing his mind. He has sway with the church and nobility which would make it easier for him to gather support. He has shown himself to be hostile in this episode both towards his mother and Alfred indirectly. The way i see it is, if she let him live and Aethelred had Alfred killed then Judith would have lost both sons because she would never forgive Aethelred. Like I do get why she did what she did, and it reminds me of Cersei and Joffrey tbf. Cersei would never do such a thing, no matter who Joffrey hurts or kills. Judith would rather kill her own son than let him do such a thing. So i can respect it because if it was anyone but her son, we wouldnt give a fuck right now 😂

The reason why she made Aethelred renounce the thone is because she knows he would lose to the Vikings. Only Alfred has the capability to beat them (as we see in TLK). Even Echbert realised that Alfred had a bigger role to play, if not the greatest of them all. Aethelred would never have allowed Ubbe, Bjorn or Lagertha to stay and settle, and allow them to fight for the English, he would have simply had Heahmund and the rest imprisoned and killed, which i think he even suggested something along those lines. Whilst he would have been a good King in general, he wouldnt be a good King to have for when the Vikings actually start to invade properly.

Judith wants to realize Ecbert's dream of England and Ecbert strongly believed Alfred is the person to establish England or at least laying the foundations. Aethelred is his father's son and would have been made the fool off just as his father was by the vikings. The Lords of Wessex are ignorant to the fact that they can only prevail if they work together with vikings like Ubbe. Alfred understands this cuz he was tutored by Ecbert. Whereas Aethelred would not see the long term goal.

Richie Kimbumina

Ah do you know why RT TV reacts didn’t finish thier s6 episodes?

tayscupofjoe

Very true. He is the one to truly be able to bring em together

Josh

🤣🤣 Magnus is not even a bastard of Ragnar Lothbrok. He's probably the son of some random Saxon soldier his mom slept with

Josh

Actually been to Alaska on a Alaskan cruise. U definitely can see the Northern Lights there, but u gotta pick the right time to go. I went in July for my honeymoon. No such luck of seeing them in July. Still on my bucket list for things to see in my life

Josh

Yep, that is true. By King Alfred's symptoms they believe he suffered from Crohn's disease. Of course it's just speculation.. no way of knowing for sure without a colonoscopy

tayscupofjoe

That’s soooo cool! Definitely want to see em one day too
