Barbie + Tchaikovsky = ...Horny Unicorn?

Comments

Tiffany Christine Smith

It's "Kelly" guys. I've watched this movie since 2003 when it came out at least once a year for twenty years and I never thought she was called Shelly. 😆

Grace Starkes

Hurray! This is my personal favorite Barbie movie!

Daniel J

I was hoping he'd review this!

Adam Kay

That's a beautiful crown, Raven.

Raven Fox

Thank you! Did you notice that it wasn't PINK? The not-pinkness is one of my favorite features. LOL

Jamie Rogers

This is triggering so many memories I forgot I had.

Grace Starkes

Yep, this is where Horny Unicorn came from. The official doll of the unicorn in this movie looks nothing like she does in the movie and is oddly sexy looking. So during one of our guest writing sessions at the mention of unicorns, I brought her out and came up with the Horny Unicorn bit on the spot. Lol

Verdant Range

I think for the small horny unicorn, the term you're looking for would be "foalish" or "filly-ish" since "colt" refers to a young male horse.

When first seeing Rothbart he looked like the player character in an Oblivion character creation menu. lol Also, like that you found the new Kingdom Dinobot and Rattrap figures. I properly watched through Beast Wars a few months ago and love that Hasbro decided to make new toys for them.

Aah my childhood, this is where i learned about tchaikovskys amazing music, these movies are a bit cringey but damn is it 100 times better than the swan princess bullshit xD if only we could have a princess story without pink :P

Grace Starkes

I love that Odette Plush btw. 😊

Sethunya

OMG yall saw Sleepaway Camp!!??

Sethunya

@Raven Fox lol lemme shut up then. I got the joke immediately because I saw the movie.

Hey, it’s better than the Swan Princess movies. I give it that

Christine Taylor

Wow this movie hasn't held up very well, but at least it's better than the Swan Princess and it's never ending sequel train. Also I'm pretty sure the girl Barbie is telling the story to is her younger sister Kelly(or at least Kelly WAS her younger sister until she was replaced with Chelsea) as I distinctly remember that quite a few of these earlier films started with Barbie telling Kelly a story.

Christine Taylor

One other thing, they may have portrayed the elves as looking like children because when they made actual dolls of these characters they used the Kelly and Tommy molds or at least that's my guess. Doesn't make it any less creepy though.

SilverZeo

Huh... was Not-Bromley wearing a feather Ye-Olde-Fedora?

churchontime

Odile sounds like Melodia from SilverHawks

Jennifer Gilbert

anyone here ever seen the anime Princess Tutu? it's short anime series that does an effective retelling of Swan Lake, while making meta commentary on storytelling in general, where the prince is the one in need of saving, Odile is actually in love with the prince, it's the Prince's knight that saves the day and falls in love with Odette, and Odette isn't a princess but an ordinary duck that got turned into a human.

SilverZeo

I think it was an option in the voting last month. It didn’t win out. Maybe next time

BB Shockwave

Blackarachnia as a Unicorn? More like Unicron, LOL! :D And yeah that animation is pretty weird. And how does the unicorn has braided manes and tail when y'know, she has no hands? Never knew Mainframe did Barbie movies. Also, that dead swan/parrot sketch was great! Gotta say I liked Odile - she has an annoying voice and is spoiled, but still she looks cute and I liked that Rothbart actually loves and cares for his daughter. Adds some depth to a villain. Also, clever ruse indeed with the illusion. Hehe, I half expected you would add a "loneliness meter" for the swan when Odette starts dying from lack of love... she is like the Beast in those bad Beauty and the Beast animated movies.

Christine Taylor

Well I don't know for sure but that's my guess. I distinctly remember there being dolls of the elf characters that used the "baby" Molds typically used for Kelly, Tommy, and their friends and since merchandise tends to made/released before movies are even out...

Kellri

I don't know why, but I love it when he reviews Barbie movies. I didn't watch many as a kid, and the barbie was just always gifted to me because it was expected that I, a girl, would want one. Even though I quickly grew past barbie dolls in my childhood, I still enjoy the movies on some level. They are relaxing in their easiness I guess. Like other childhood shows.

Mikhail Palatnik

The very first Richard Rich's Swan Princess actually got the design of Rothbart correctly match his very name, because Rothbart or Rotbart literally means "red beard" in German, and the villain did really have a red beard, so only that animated feature got something right.

Mikhail Palatnik

Kelsey Grammer's vocalized Rothbart in humanoid form here looks like Captain Ahab from Herman Melville's Moby Dick, Greek-profile hawk-nosed Jewish stereotype in a certain way.

Master Farr

Now I still really need that Warrior Princess Movie

DreamScream

For some reason the early Barbie movies were just her self insert stories.

Evelyn Irwin

I think the reason why Barbie didn't let Shelly go home is because Shelly is actually Barbie's sister and Barbie can't leave the girls at camp to take Shelly home?
