Ghostbusters (2016) Review

Who you gonna call? Someone else.

Comments

Melissa Joy Miller

My recommendation go watch the ghostbusters afterlife movie it pays respect to the original and Harold Ramis’ memory not this crap

Melissa Joy Miller

Also anyone excited about the newer movie coming out about the freeze now that looks good

Grace Starkes

Good grief! And funny you reviewed this, I was recently playing Luigi's Mansion to get into the Halloween mood. The game is pretty much if Luigi was a ghostbuster. How sad is it that this movie makes Luigi look like a more legitimate ghostbuster. lol

Who ya gonna call? Ghost Bobsheaux!

They really should have just made a live action "Extreme Ghostbusters". I know some people (like me) would have enjoyed that. And you'd have women in it. Also, I think the BIGGEST flaw of this movie, more than anything, is everyone trying to be the comic relief. Look, we all love Ray but someone's gotta be Egon. But if you ask me what part annoys me the most, I really hate the actual weapon elements of these Ghostbusters tools. I mean, aren't they suppose to be more about containing the ghosts not destroying them? And actually I kind of like the whole Ley Lines thing. I mean, in a world where ghosts exists, why not other supernatural elements? I mean one episode of the cartoon had Cthulhu.

Hehe, I wanted to make that "someone else" joke too in the comments. I am frankly, not really excited by the new movie either that's coming, it looks to be yet another nostalgia-bait. But I mean, surely it cannot be worse than the Femmebusters were? .... I hope! Some days ago while cleaning, the whole "Mike hat" joke suddenly came to my mind, I had to stop and ponder at the stupidity required to make this terrible unfunny thing to make it into the final cut. Ad-libbing should NEVER be allowed in movies, not big budget ones especially.

Indeed, I found it ridiculous they had electro-swords and boxing gloves. If you can slash a ghost in two, why do you even need the traps???

Well according to Q5 who made the changes to The Real GhostBusters show pointed glasses are scary. Phelous told me about it in his Real Ghostbusters review

BB Shockwave

Seeing you in Ghostbusters getup and just seeing Phelous show off his new custom made proton pack yesterday.... made me feel you guys should team up. I mean he reviews bad animated movies too!

Come on don't say that. I mean a lot of RL Ermy's stuff in Full Metal Jacket was improvised. The Robotnik dance in the Sonic Movie was improvised. Ab-libbing can work really well in movies if the actors doing it are talented enough. You just also need a director who can tell them to knock it off and get back on script.

I can only assume the more weapony stuff was added in because they wanted a big showy climax. Since well, the ship sailed a long time ago on it being funny.

This movie was pretty bad, even trying to separate it from the other movies and media related to Ghostbusters

Also, only saw now... there was a Hobgoblins 2??? And Delhi Safari and Monster in Paris would also deserve a review by you.

From what I can tell, the "anti-Irish security fence" thing is just to show how old the mansion is, due to how old that prejudice is. Best I can figure for their weapons is it scatters the ghost's particles, so it'll take time for them to reform. My biggest issue with the movie is how it feels like way too much improv by actors, which drags out too many of the jokes, making them flop and come off as rambling. Also, with the flashing lights you have for when you bust the movie, you want to put up a seizure warning in the YT version.

Thank you for the reminder. Bobsheaux will put a trigger warning in the video description.

The disco-pose soldiers are actually because that whole dance sequence shown in the end credits WAS supposed to be there, in the movie - Chris Hemsworth was controlling them and making them dance. Why he could not do the same to the ghostbusters? Who knows. But I am glad I did not have to watch that scene in the movie...

Jack Sullivan

well here's hoping that ghostbusters afterlife washes away the filth that is this movie

Improve can work great in movies. Hell Jim Carry would improve some stupid little action in like every movie he was in. The show Scrubs had TONS of improved jokes, one even made into a running gag. Problem is you need the person improving to have actual talent for it. It's a hard skill to learn. Case in point, watch the movie "Telephone" with Woobie Goldberg. That was a movie built on improv because it was suppose to star Robin Williams. The big problem here is these ladies clearly lacked that skill. Which of course, makes you feel the improv, if there was any.

I actually wish they left it in. It was so weird and bizarre it was at least somewhat enjoyable for me.

Beau Bureau

Amazing how the 80s original was actually less racist than the 2016 reboot. Winston was the audience insert. He might not have had the degrees of the other Ghostbusters, but he had common sense, and when it came to actually facing the apocalypse he was up there facing Gozer with the rest of them.

Jim Stigall

I think I would have preferred Thor from Avengers endgame then that guy.

Could have done that with more traps like the cartoons did, but yeah. As a wise man once said "Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made."

Hell Ray

Bob proton slamming that abomination of a movie into The Box was the most satisfying feeding all year.
