π 2406 WIP: π¬π·π° Dolphin Piggy Bank and Printing Tips (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone,
I am excited to share my latest work-in-progress: the Dolphin Piggy Bank. π¬π·π°
This dolphin is not only adorable but also functions wonderfully as a piggy bank.
During the design process, I addressed two major challenges:
Top Part Printing Without Support: The first challenge was printing the top part of the dolphin, which is hollow and lacks supporting material underneath. To tackle this, I divided the model into two halves and carefully designed a profile beneath the top section. This profile minimizes overhangs, thereby supporting the top part during printing.
Surface "Ladder Effect": The second challenge was the "ladder effect" visible on the model's surface, as shown in the photo. This is a common issue, and Bambulab has an informative post on mitigating it using the "Variable Layer Height" feature in Bambustudio. I find this feature incredibly useful. Additionally, I adjusted the top surface of the dolphin and its fins, to ensure that the "jumping slope" is more gradual, which helps reduce the ladder effect.
I hope these design and printing tips are useful to you. Please let me know if you find them helpful, and I will be happy to share more insights in future posts.
Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below and don't hesitate to share your ideas for my upcoming designs! πβ¨.π I will try to release the model this week after testing everything. πβ¨
