"so this is madness..." Me: *singing* And what have you done?

I keep wicket for the Quakers, etc. Merry Christmas you lot.

I guess James from Team Rocket was right. Leo Burnette really is the devil. Edit: dangit Tesco, you got me emotional! Over a gingerbread nightmare!

Can't we just have a festive advert where a Christmassy sprite DOESN'T magically switch on all the lights around the house / down the street / across the entire country? Did Woolworths die in vain? Does the Argos catalogue mean nothing to anyone anymore? Pass me the Harvey's Bristol Cream - I'm not sure I can take it anymore...

As for Boots, they've got a question mark hanging over their future as their American owners are selling the Boots arm off. https://news.sky.com/story/boots-bidder-lines-up-banks-to-finance-10bn-takeover-deal-13272772 Walmart retained a 10% stake in Asda when the Issa's took over, presumably as a safety net in case it went south. But yeah, with a lot of the adverts, there's a sense of the companies going through the motions, either out of desperation (Aldi, Asda) or arrogance (Morrisons) with a that'll do attitude this year in the hope there'll be a better idea that comes along next year.

Peter, Matthew, as a Quaker and especially an elder of my local area Meeting, may I point out that Friends do celebrate Christmas. However, this is not the big jamboree that other dominations celebrate it. While meeting houses don't make any special meetings for worship for Christmas in general, some might be open, like mine, if they have a Wednesday MfW.

I wonder what you’d make of the Irish Christmas Ads. Ever since the John Lewis campaign started there has been this trend of saccharine crap with similar music on them. The An Post ad in particular grates on me.

Andrew Coldrick

A good recommendation to include in next year’s.
