Making this has made me hungry for bacon and cheese quarterpounder. Even though it probably tastes quite unpleasant. Barnstaple's a long way to go for it, though.

Haha I went to the Wimpy in Barnstaple in 1989, I still have the hat and menu stuck in the travel diary my dad and I worked on.

Was there any appreciable difference between the Mr. Wimpy C64 game and the original Burgertime arcade game?

Bob the Fish Productions

It came out on the Spectrum and C64. BurgerTime didn't. And there's an original bonus level.

Rhys

The first level was a completely different type of game where you had to bring burger ingredients from one side of the screen to the other. THEN it just became a burger time clone. Maybe they were hoping Data East's lawyers couldn't get past level one?

I'm still nostalgic for Wimpy. When I went to Digi Live in 2021 and 2023, I went to two Wimpy's, one at Wembley Park (over the road from the Fountain Studios) and one in Pinner. Back in February, I was in Dingwall, home of Ross County football club, they have a Wimpy there! I'll be in Huddersfield in a couple of weeks, they have a Wimpy there! If you go to Southend, they have about 3 or 4, you'll find YouTuber Kim Justice frequenting them! 😉

The last Wimpy I went to was at Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham in about 2019-ish. The food was rather nice as well. The shopping centre is gone now, and the Wimpy with it :(

Many thanks for the slurpacious episode, Matthew, BTW; it went down a treat!

Paul

I seem to remember Kim being well less than complimentary about Wimpy’s burgers in one of her livestreams. (You do appear to have a rather WIDE acceptance angle for food, I must say, Stuart. If there's any food that inclines me to run to cover, it's the cuisine of your laboratory experiments!😂)

Stuart Kenny

And yet, Kim likes playing Burgertime now and then, plus you can find Wimpy adverts appearing before her streams and you can redeem a Bender in a Bun as an emote. 😉

I remember seeing this in Coventry growing up - thanks for the original advert - 18 Fairfax St by the bus station? Not where I remember … Googled and turns out there were THREE of these in a small radius of Coventry city centre. I never went in! I probably wouldn’t have been allowed to…

Now that’s a catchy tune to go out on 👍
