Edit: There. Sorted out. Probably. Hopefully. No. Any issues I've inevitably missed, do point them out (preferably with timestamps and within the next twenty-four hours). You won't be making more work for me, you'll just be pointing out where I've made more work for myself.

Like I said, this one got away from me a bit. 1991 took longer than I was expecting. There's a montage toward the end that took an hour on its own. And now I'm having a week off.

Incidentally, if there's any Welsh people, particularly native speakers, Glenn Reuben might need your help with something. Mention it in the comments and I'm sure he'll see it.

The opening bit after you said it gets political is silent.

I really resent with every fibre of my body micheal green i will pop champaine the minute that money grabbing tory bastard dies. TVS were stupid and westcountry lucky tsw did good locally westcountry was just southern boring and too american in style

Byron Law

It really did ruin TV.

Plus, the last line you said at 3.28 was a bit muffled by the music.

Did Death on the Rock require dubbing for all of those featured/interviewed as was broadcasting policy on Northern Ireland at the time?

Stuart Kenny

Oh and maybe one final map of how ITV currently looks over the end credits?

Andrew Coldrick

Excellent, comprehensive video nonetheless. Enjoy a well deserved week’s respite.

Stuart Kenny

In that case, I get it and maybe for the best. I thought it was missing as the credits were on the right.

Love your closing thoughts 👍🏾

Oh, and don't forget to credit STV in the copyrights and STV Footage Sales in the sources, they're still a company too, even though they're haemorraging money badly and like you say, will end up part of ITV plc, it's inevitable, despite what people say.

I had no idea that Steven Fry hated the Broadcasting Act 1990

I do wonder what would've happened if Carlton and UNM had been allowed to merge. They were of equal size, meaning it would've been more of an actual merger, and then they would've been big enough to either force a more equitable merger with Granada, or even just continue as a two-company joint venture if the government were unhappy about it.

52:42 I think you’re missing a sentence or two in the script: What were the *disclosed* reasons Thames lost? What did they bid? You could also expand the sources a bit like “Further Reading” for future students of this stuff. I hope they find this work because it’s really excellent, well done.

Chris Oakley

Top work as ever, Matthew. I believe Michael Palin was also involved in the Meridian bid, according to his published diaries. Fun fact, etc.

Peter Murdock

Thank you for this Matthew. Phenomenal work.

Another well done series, Matt. Also, thanks for actually putting into words for me, finally, into how ITV worked pre-and-post-Broadcasting Act. It's possible that I should've gotten them earlier, but I'm probably dyslexic so it kinda takes a bit for words for settle in for me. Oh also, I should make one thing clear, I would like this to be the final video where I am credited as Rusty Ralston. Due to realizing, in hell year 2025, that I am transgender, I am now going under the name of Julia Rusty Ralston. Yes, I'm using three names because I'm kind of a ponce like that.

Superb. Incredible to think ITV is currently profitable, as it seems as much of a zombified product as anything else you find in the depths of your average cable/satellite TV package. Also Incredible to think we could have had a Merlin TV channel among the regions
