One account of Wilson's meeting with the BBC is that he playfully suggested they schedule Greek drama in the slot originally intended for Steptoe and Son. Genome states that the replacement was a Corelli Barnett doc about the Great War.

I do wonder to what extent a programme lasting only half an hour would have prevented many people voting. Polling stations open when? 7am, I think? So most people would have had hours and hours in which to vote before polling stations closed. I'd have to doubt whether many people would have gone out during that half-hour slot to vote, personally. Then again, I'm no expert on anything much.
