I've been really hard at work on this new set for the past 3 weeks, I hope you enjoy it!It was quite challenging figuring out how to compose a series of scenes that not only describes the ongoing narrative, but also showcases a variety of angles. Surprisingly, I've also seemed to have gotten a bit more competent and confident at more closeup shots - especially on things with smaller details and different materials :)

Feel free to let me know what you think, or of any questions you have -Thank you so much as always for your support!

(The process for making this set will also be in this month's process video)

Awesome.

It's good to look and I love it

Amazing as always! Can I ask some tips on dealing with close-up shots? I always find portraits are hard to deal with, sometimes when I draw close-ups I always feel like the anatomy looks really awkward, like big shoulder and such. Thank you for the amazing art again!

Michael K.

Stunning, good work as usual. Your close-ups are amazing. I wish you a lovely day.

Sheesh. Incredible work. The rendering of the waters surface on the ground escpecially👌. The hard work truly payed off, keep at it sir, you are an inspiration to me and many artists

Fenris

Dude, your work is always incredible

Hiraizon_

i love the way you drew the water droplets and how the water interacts with the character's face in the 2nd illustration

Vanaris

I love the story in this set

Venefica Chao

She is such an attractive, strong character, I wish there were a video game where I get to be her! Thank you Guweiz for being a constant inspiration, your art is purely phenomenal.

guweiz

Thank you very much!

Thank you very much! Close-ups can basically be of 2 kinds - an actual close camera position to the subject OR a tight framing of a subject shot from far away. With the former, the camera tends to be substantially closer to the head than the shoulders, so the head will look proportionately bigger just from perspective. With the latter, we see an almost fully real proportion difference between the head and shoulders as the camera is roughly equidistant to both. So if the shoulders are a big large, you can check if, for example, you drew most of the scene in an actual closeup (Scenario 1), but drew the shoulders in direct proportion (Scenario 2). This would tend to make the shoulders look unnaturally large in context. Slightly more advanced techniques that photographers might use would be to use Scenario 1 for taller models to "narrow" down shoulders, and Scenario 2 to avoid a shorter model's head looking too big in a closeup.

Thank you, please have a lovely day too!

guweiz

Thank you, it was a fun time working on the water effects!

guweiz

Thank you, I felt it was able to add a good bit more detail to the scene

guweiz

Thank you! It's actually just a simple C shape rather than the usual round blob :)

guweiz

Thank you! We can all dream :)

Neil Pinnock

Brilliant. I always wonder where you get your inspiration from?

Besides enjoy the beauty of Irena, It's really interesting to see the details of the background, when I see "上肉" I know you really did a lot of work on everything , I love those scenes and the lights , they perfected Irena and the story, when I saw those pictures I feel like seeing a short cut of a movie, happy to see you evolved and told stories better and better every time. I really want to see more of the city scenes, the last time I had such a deep impression about the city was the Ghost In The Shell 1995, cant wait to see you draw another scene like 情报事务所 and 五分诊所 you draw before.

I love this set so much. The mood is palpable, as usual your props, setting, and camerawork tell a vivid story. I love the close-up of the shoes the most - the level of detail on the rain and how many reflections there are make it so interesting to look at! The framing in the fifth piece with the ramp in the foreground is striking. I love the use of geometry and lighting to give the eye an interesting path to take to reach the subject. I wonder who the flowers are for...

Ivan

Gorgeous and as always insane attention to detail! Thank you, love the set!

Raios

Casually walking around with a giant ass sword, no big deal. Jokes aside, lovely pieces as always

guweiz

The idea itself starts really simple, but in the process of trying to finish the pieces I start adding in more and more elements that I think might work - Pinterest or just stock images is a good source of raw ideas that I draw upon to refine!

guweiz

Thank you! I definitely want to find a chance to draw specific locations more in detail as well :)

guweiz

I'm glad you enjoy it so much, especially the "camerawork"! Odd angles (for illustration) are definitely more unfamiliar and tough to draw, but I feel it can be worth it to deliver a special cinematic touch. The ramp was my attempt to break the squarish composition up a little, which can feel especially stiff in this sort of "center focus" shot!

guweiz

Thank you very much, I'm glad you appreciated the details!

guweiz

It's a strange town :)

Hoooolps

Its always crazy how you're able to caputre the atmosphere in your paintings. thank you

I have a question sir, as you know there’s always been this huge fuss around drawing tablets… what are your thoughts/recommendations?

حيدر

Also, what tablet are you currently using to produce your artworks?

guweiz

I just use a Wacom intuous small, my recommendation is just to use what is the most comfortable for you personally!
