Homesteading!

Okay, before I'm off to pickup my brother I wanted to put this out there to see what you all thought of a Homesteading Pack/Set. I'm shifting gears from the Farmers Market set I was working on because I'm confident that EA is either working on something similar, or working on something that's going to make me have to completely rework anything I create.

I'd like to get some ideas from you all on what you'd like to see and maybe some different ways you'd want stuff to function. I already have a couple of ideas I'm messing around with but I need to test out the tuning first.

So tell me what interactive objects, decorative objects, Aspirations, Traits, and New Skills you want to see! I'm really excited to try my hand at making a new skill.

Leave all those great ideas into the comments section below!!!

Since I know you are eventually going to have recipes to go with your plants I would like to see your version of a canning station. Currently I use Icemunmun;s recipes, Plants and Canning Station but would move to yours if or when available. Perhaps some traits or Aspirations that work with canning, using solar or wind for power along with if possible working solar panels and windmills. (deco if not) I would like to see some more old fashion wood like looking stoves which would go perfectly with theme. I still remember I my great-grand mother using one. A old fashion pump sink and maybe a fireplace that can be used like a stove to cook with. I will think on more to see what would be good but that is a start! PS: A fridge that looks like an old fashion cupboard so it fits the old fashion look.

Those are some really great ideas! I like the wood-cutting idea too. Animations might be the only thing that will be difficult but I'm learning how to mess with those right now. I was thinking a harvestable tree itself would be an easy option. I was also thinking I'd edit the woodworking recipes to require it so that anything you make would be free if you had the wood. Foraging is a GREAT idea. I'll need some time to think about how to implement this. I could build a whole skill around this idea!

You are full of awesome ideas! :) For my farmers market set I had put together (and still have some) bouquets that were more for selling at the market than 'arranging'. This actually gives me some inspiration to come up with something around this. Originally the bouquets were objects that you could create at a table and slot into a vase as decoration. You could sell them on a retail lot or you could separate them later into individual flowers. I tried to come up with something that you could get several uses out of. Some of the bouquets had broadcasters on them that affected sims moods as well. Let me think on this a bit. The other piece to this were packaged fruits and vegetables that could be sold as a group and either used as deco or separated for recipes. Maybe I could find a way to work this in as a little bit of both - maybe it could be a 'Market Prepping' skill that included flower arranging.

I already tried to contact her at one point to work together and unfortunately it didn't work out. She also said she wouldn't be supporting other people's harvestables with her mods. That doesn't mean I want to remake something anyone has already done but I do agree with Amy it would be nice to have something that didn't require extra mods to have to keep up. This is actually something Anska at S4S and I talked a lot about last year and we came up with the idea of creating some stove recipes to make skillet jams and the idea plays in nicely with the rustic farmhouse/homestead theme. I even came up with the idea of adding an interaction to the jars to add twine and decorative labels to increase their value to sell at the market (no, I still haven't completely let go of that set lol)

I love the idea of chopping wood, but it's probably going to have to wait until I learn to animate better. The harvestable thing will definitely work and I have some other great ideas for that, keep an eye out for upcoming posts. If the menu is not working and it's an EA thing it's likely because they're changing it or fixing it. I'm going to be looking at it at some point though I'll let you know what I find. Pottery wheel would be cool, but again, the animations are the hard part. I could always to something similar to what pbox did and set up a system for making pottery with the clay blob. I might even be able to just use/update his code. Then you can find clay dirt while you're scavenging, bring it home and work it into moldable clay ;) Cloth would be fun! I could make some bolts using the stuff I separated from the JA table. Let me think about how I could implement it though. Let me look at the gardening for kids as a skill. It might be complicated though because it'd have to transfer when they age up and I don't know what that looks like.

This is as easy as changing the texture. I can add this to the list it shouldn't take me more than a half hour to complete.
