Per a suggestion from a Patron I decided to add a Foraging Skill to the main Foraging mod. I'm starting to flesh out the main parts of it off-and-on between updates and wanted to know what kind of ideas you all had for skill progression. I likely won't get to finish it until later in March but I would like to start brainstorming ideas for right now.

So far I think I'm going to make it so you can find better and more rare items as you level up and I'll add some standard options to talk to other sims about foraging.

Please leave your ideas below!

Hello! Foraging skill is a great idea! It could work well with off the grid lot trait /simple living lot trait / dumpster diving, etc. It could be great if higher levels of the skill could allow to forage for specific items or categorie of items

That's a really great idea, let me look at it to see what I can do. I might be able to use the XmlInjector so I don't have to override anything.

I am waiting for a hunting -type of forage where the person returns with questionable berries wild meat. Rabbits, deer, bear, etc. It would go really well with the Royalty mod too. I am not sure if anyone has a hunting mod.

I can't think of much to add to the skill itself. except maybe a way to train pets to forage? might be a bit much though. maybe the ability to find rocks so that you can make camp fires

I think the more you build skill the more and better items you forage. Maybe foraging for specifics as well like the way you can forage for wood maybe as you go up a level you can: forage for harvestables. forage for stones forage for x y z it would help for game play where you use the foraged items to either craft, grow or justify buying an item. in the game im playing im lucky that its based loosely on the lumberjack challenge for how i am using foraging for wood to justify removing one tree. I placed 20 extra trees on the lot and my sim cant build until they are all gone so i send her to forage wood until she has x amount of wood. I'm still playing around with how much as i create the challenge but if i could forage say specifically for stones i could add in that to get a fireplace it will cost x stones and x pieces of wood. I imagine people living off the land trying to build a fireplace would go right to the stones and not get distracted by vegetables or something else

Maybe the higher your skill is, and if you've got the levels in cooking or gardening to go with it, you could forage for specific things? Like forage for plant cuttings, forage for fruit, forage for tubers. Ability should be able to provide specificity.

That would be awesome! My sim can go hunting for food. It wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I wondered why we couldn’t hunt rabbit

Would it be possible to turn the wood into say planks using the woodworking table? like 5 pieces of wood= 1 plank. I am still working out a game I want to play through and it occurred to me that if I could take the wood and make it into planks it would add another level of game play since I could say take 5 planks equals 1 section of wall.

That's a neat idea! Let me take a look at it but it shouldn't be too difficult to do.

I recently found one by littlebowbub it’s called ye olde cookbook and it’s done through a rabbit hole. Between this mod and that one I’m mostly covered
