When my daughter was 5, my then 35 year old sister offered to babysit one night so that I could go to dinner and a movie with some friends. My sister had her boyfriend over and they got black out drunk. This was not new, but she had promised no friends and no alcohol while she was watching my girl. She couldn't keep the promise for a few hours. We didn't speak for several years (actually a miracle I wasn't arrested for murder that night, with how angry I was). Now 53, she is one year sober. However, my now 24 year old daughter still remembers how scared she was that night. Her aunt traumatized her and she intends to go no contact once her grandparents are gone. She keeps the peace now, for her grandfather's sake. Addictions are terrible and the sooner someone gets help, the better. My sis waited about 15 years too long, in terms of her relationship with my daughter. I might start trusting her, by the time she gets her 5 year coin....maybe. But, I'll never forgive myself for leaving my daughter with her. And I'll never forgive her for the trauma she caused for 40+ years of our lives. Just too much baggage. This season with Willow is sometimes hard to watch, as she was generally my favorite character. And the level headed, smart one. It is accurate in the portrayal of what addictions can do to a person, and those that love them. This episode also makes me flashback to the night that I spoke about above. Willow putting Dawn in danger is something that I have a hard time forgiving her for.
