My ex-husband and 2 of my 3 daughters can't watch this show on a regular basis, as they find it too disturbing. So, I totally understand how it could have been difficult for Mandy Patinkin as an actor. He did the right thing for himself by leaving. He was my reason for starting to watch the show, when it first premiered. I didn't know who any of the other actors were, but I knew Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride! Over the first 2 seasons, I came to love the other actors just as much as I love him and they kept me watching, even when he left. That is the wonderful thing about ensemble shows..... you can have some cast turnover and still have the same show, especially if you handle departures and additions in ways that make sense within the show.

As for Gideon, him leaving hurt but it was definitely for the best. The show was apparently having a really bad effect on the actor's mental health, so he had to leave. Plus, it's really nice to see Gideon have that smile as he drives off with no destination in mind to just do whatever he feels like doing. It hurts though, because he was a good character, and I really do love him. But I do think it was for the best. :(
